Activities Needing Funding Support
Project No. 1: Tools and equipment for the workshops
These are the workshops including a consultation room sponsored by Misereor-Germany since
2007. We need to purchase and install working tools for the workshops where orthopedic
appliances and be fabricated as well as the rehabilitation of clients.

Project No. 2: Shea Butter processing equipment
The organization has included income generating activities among which are the shea butter
processing extractor. Disabled women will form small cooperatives and have training in micro
business to be able to use the shea butter extractor to increase production in order to
maximize profit. The technology is to replace the tradition way in shea butter making which is
labour intensive and with very little or no profit for women.
The shea butter house has been sponsored by the nursing students of the University of British
Columbia-Okanagan, Canada. At the moment we need funds to purchase the shea butter
making equipment at GRATIS Foundation in the Region for installation. This project is an
income generating venture whereby disabled people shall manage it, and also harvest shea nut
to process and sell the butter to earn a little income. It is also a means to sustain the operations
of the workshops. Women in the community will patronize the project a lot. We need just
about CND$4,050 to purchase the shea butter extractor.

Project No. 3: Piggery Fowl and Turkey rearing
Rearing of pigs and guinea fowl are viable income generating ventures. We need to enclose the
pigs and feed them well. In this way we can get market. Funding is needed to start the project.

Project No. 4: skill training for Livelihood
Most of the disabled children that had support from us are beyong school going age. What we
thought is that skilled training may do them good, as they will be able to learn a trade and be
able to work back in their community. The organization is opened to assisting disabled children
in formal education. A sewing training unit will be started where they can have training and
receive a sewing machine after completion. Batik tie and die training will also be offered to
them. A Dutch friend supported us to construct the small structure below. We need funds to
construct the training unit. In addition, they will also be given training how to make a local soap
with the shea butter. For the past years, we had to send children to other towns for such
training.

Project No.5: Drilling of borehole to provide potable water at project site
The orthopedic service centre is outside town and not near any good source of drinking water.
A spot has been located by a hydrologist for the drilling. We need funds to drill and mechanize
the borehole. The cost is $10,400. The Clean water from the borehole will also help the women
to process clean and pure shea butter to get good market.
This is a sample borehole we need at the site

Project No.6: Electrical Transformer
The workshops will need to be connected to the electricity. Fortunately the site is closer to the
high tension pole of the hydropower. The technicians advised that we shall need to buy a
transformer to enable us connect to the power. We have a stand-by electrical generator incase
of power failure to use.
Viable Assets:
A Dutch friend supported us to buy a pair of donkey. Every year the female donkey gives birth.
In five years time, the first female baby donkey will start to give birth concurrently with the
mother and there begins the increase in number. In 2009, the female delivered, and is pregnant
again in 2009 and to deliver in June 2010 and will be pregnant again.
