St. Mark's Knights of Columbus Family Supper Join us at our family supper on Saturday, November 24th at 6pm. We have Chilli Con Carne, Vegetarian Chilli, Rice, Pilaf, Salads dessert and beverages. "BYOB" License obtained. Cost per person $10, children under 10 are free. Tickets are available from Josef Doerig 819-561-0127, Clinton (Dorli) McCrank 819-682-3263, or Ken (Pauline) Chamberlin 819-684-2108. The Synodal Process – Statistical Trends in the Archdiocese of Gatineau To help parishes get a better sense of their parish reality, the diocesan team has compiled a statistical profile for each parish with information on weddings, funerals, baptisms, confirmations, and first communion. We also compiled these for the diocese as a whole. While statistics are only one part of the picture of what we are living, the trends are quite notable. Most notable is the dramatic drop in weddings over the past 30 years, from 746 in 1988 to only 114 in 2017. Over the same period, the number funerals have been largely stable. A concerning trend is the dramatic drop in the sacraments of Christian initiation over the past twenty years. Between 1998 and 2017, the number of baptisms and confirmations dropped in half (from 2075 to 994 baptisms; and from 994 to 453 confirmations), and first communions dropped even more dramatically (from 1660 to 686). These statistics are not intended to discourage us, but to name the reality before us. It is an essential step toward making good decisions for the future. Thank you – St. Mark’s Annual Bazaar A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s bazaar successful. Many hands make light work! The raffle winners are: Throw Quilts Edie Baranet and Nicky Avoledo – – Wine Basket - Mary Jo Roy. Thank you to the CWG ladies for their donations for the wine basket, to Erica McKeown for her artwork and donation of wine glasses and to Teresa Shea and Sonya Lachapelle for the donation of the quilts for the raffles . St. Vincent de Paul November 18th, the 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, is the World Day of the Poor. The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul invites you to help society’s less fortunate people. We encourage you to give a hand by participating in our Guignolée being held on December 2, or in our collection of food supplies. In this very busy period, we always need volunteers and, of course, financial help is always appreciated. You may donate to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul team in our community, or directly to the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, via the official website, at www.ssvp.ca/donation.

Chili Dinner and Show! The youth group will be putting on a chili dinner and show! You heard right... dinner and a show! Saturday December 8th at 6 pm the youth group will be hosting their annual dinner in St. Mark's hall. This year the theme is dinner and a show! The youth will not only serve dinner, they will have a few video's and skits to perform for everyone! Tickets can be purchased from the youth group after the weekend masses. See the posters around the church for details. Thanks in advance for all of your support. Our Advent Giving Tree During Advent, we are invited to make the crooked paths straight – to think of people who have less than we do. The Giving Tree is our attempt to reach out to those who are in need. We are collecting age appropriate gifts for children 0 to 12 years and gift cards for the teens and families. All gifts must be under the tree by December 10th. Please put in gift bags with the ornament attached. These gifts will be given at our Christmas Celebration of Love dinner on December 15th. The Book of the Names of the Dead Each November, the Church observes the Commemoration of the Faithful Departed. We do this in a special way on the Feast of All Souls (November 2), but we also remember the dead for the entire month of November. The Book of the Names of the Dead has been placed next to our statue of Mary. You are invited to write the names of your loved ones in the book. We will pray for all those who have died at all masses during the month of November. Apple Pie Sales / Youth Group Registrations Youth group pies will continue to be sold after mass on weekends. Youth group registration is still open. Visit the youth group link on the St. Mark’s website or email: [email protected] Men’s Cursillo Beginning Thursday, November 15th at 7 pm to Sunday, April 8th. For more information, contact André Sirois at 819-685-1478 or go to http://www.ottawacursillo.ca/.

Have you ever considered including St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church as a beneficiary in your will? Your gift will enable the parish to continue its

mission. Thank you.
