    81. Disposal of Thermocol under Solid Waste Management

Solid waste management is a big problem nowadays. Thermocol is a synthetic aromatic

hydrocarbon polymer made from the monomer styrene. It occupies a large volume. Acetone is a

chemical which can be used to dispose off Thermocol. Our college has taken initiative towards

disposal of all Thermocol of our college by dissolving it in acetone. It requires a few seconds to

complete the process. This reduces the volume of Thermocol as well. This activity was carried

out on 13th June 2019. Awareness among students was spread regarding the same. Students and

staff members participated in the event. The picture shows the disposal of two sacks of

Thermocol that has reduced to a very small volume.

    83. Rainwater Harvesting

College has adopted the roof water harvesting for ground water recharge system. To

prevent runoff, rain water falling on the roof top of our building, is presently collected by a

guttering arrangement into evenly spaced downpipes on either sides of the roof onto the ground

level. 4’ X 3’ and 5 ft deep recharge trenches (10 pits each with surrounding masonry and filled

with pebbles, sand etc) have been dug up near each down pipe.

    84. E-waste Disposal

E-waste of our college is collected by Nagraj E-waste recycler who is an authorized

Electronic waste Recycler Registered in Nagpur by Maharashtra Pollution Control Board. It

deals in all computer scraps & dead electrical material, inverter battery etc. In order to meet the

compliance in the prescribed manner college has tied up with Nagraj E-waste recycler for proper

disposal of E-waste as and when the desired quantity is generated.
