ActionLine…Your Board Meeting Update March 20, 2013 Staff assignments approved During the March 19 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees approved four staff assignments. Michael Vaughn was named director of technology after serving as supervisor of programming and database management. Vaughn received his bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Houston in 1984. He meets district requirements for this position. He began his career in technology as a programmer for Shipco in 1978. In 1981, he became a programmer for the Houston Post and in 1991, he became a database administrator for Tenneco Gas Pipeline. In 1996, he became director of information technology with Service Corporation International. He began his career in Aldine ISD in 2005 as supervisor of programming and database management. Vaughn has 35 years of experience in the field of technology and he has spent seven of those years with Aldine ISD. Timothy Momanyi was named an accountant at the Central Office after serving as an accountant with BNY Mellon. Momanyi received his bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Houston in 2004 and his master’s degree in business administration from Houston Baptist University in 2008. He meets district requirements for this position. He began his accounting career in 2004 as a relationship manager with BNY Mellon. In 2010, he became an accountant with that same company. Momanyi has eight years of experience in the field of accounting. David Lombrana was named assistant principal at Shotwell Middle School after serving as a bilingual teacher at Stehlik Intermediate School. Lombrana received his bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 1975 from the University of Texas-El Paso and his Doctor’s of Jurisprudence in 1992 from South Texas College of Law. He meets district requirements for this position. He began his teaching career as an English teacher at Cathedral High School in El Paso. He began his career in Aldine ISD in 2001 serving in his present position as a bilingual teacher at Stehlik Intermediate School. Lombrana has 16 years of experience in the field of education and he has spent 12 of those years with Aldine ISD. Katherine Anderson was named assistant principal at Hinojosa EC/Pre-K Center after serving as program director of elementary bilingual/ESL education at the Resource Center. Anderson received her

During the March 19 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees approved four staff assignments.

bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies in 2001 from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and her master’s degree in education administration from Sam Houston State University in 2004. She is certified as a principal. She began her teaching career in Aldine ISD in 2001 as a bilingual teacher at Carter Academy. In 2007, she moved into her present position as program director of elementary bilingual/ESL education at the Resource Center. Anderson has spent all 12 of her years in education with Aldine ISD.

Employees honored

During the March 19 Board meeting, a number of employees were honored for the contributions they make to Aldine ISD on a daily basis.

Robin DeRouen, executive director of

transportation, named Terri Jackson as her department’s Employee of the Month. Jackson works out of the east side transportation department as a special needs driver.

Emitte Roque, executive director

of buildings and properties, named Stovall Academy as his department’s Building of the Month. On hand to accept the award were head custodian Maria Briones and principal Tami Schuler.

Roque named Jones Elementary School as his department’s Yard of the Month. On hand to accept the award were head custodian Maria Barajas, yard man Pedro Garcia and principal Cheryl Fontenot.

Dani Sheffield, executive director of child nutrition services, named the cafeteria staff at COMPASS as her department’s Team of the Month. The team consists of manager Linda Lacy, and specialists Esmeralda Garza, Gloria Hernandez, Barbara Monds, and Rose Taylor. The CN

supervisor is Sal Jessa and COMPASS’ principal is James Metcalf.

Contracts for professional staff approved

During the March 19 Board meeting, AISD Trustees unanimously approved Superintendent Dr. Wanda Bamberg’s recommendation to approve contracts for the district’s professional staff for the 2013-14 school year. The recommendations are for one-year contracts, and one-year contract extensions.

Summer work schedule approved

During the March 19 Board meeting, Trustees approved the summer work schedule for district employees. The summer work schedule will begin on Monday, June 10. All employees will work from 7 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. An exception to this will be the police department and central receiving which will operate on a skeleton crew. The Fourth of July falls on Thursday and district offices will be closed that day. District employees will work from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday of that week. Regular hours will resume on Monday, Aug. 5.

Calendar approved for 2013-14 school year

During the March 19 Board meeting, Aldine ISD Trustees approved the calendar for the 2013-14 school year.

The first day of instruction will be on Monday, Aug. 26. Other key dates are: Monday, Sept. 2, Labor Day Holiday; Monday, Oct. 14, Columbus Day Holiday; Nov. 25-29, Thanksgiving Holiday; Dec. 23-Jan. 3, Mid-Winter Break; Monday, Jan. 20, Martin Luther King Holiday; Monday, Feb. 17, President’s Day Holiday; March 10-14, Spring Break; Friday, April 18, Good Friday Holiday; Monday, May 26, Memorial Day Holiday; and Thursday, June 5, Last Day of Instruction.

Program presented

During the March 19 Board meeting, Dani Sheffield, executive director of child nutrition services, presented the program. She provided a Power Point presentation highlighting her department and the number of students the district feeds on a daily basis.
