I. SITUATION. An achievement test is designed to assess what a person has already learned,. These tests are designed to assess current performance in an academic area. Because achievement is viewed as an indicator of previous learning, it is often used to predict future academic success. An achievement test administered in a public school setting would typically include separate measures of vocabulary, language skills and reading comprehension, arithmetic computation and problem solving, science, and social studies. Individual achievement is determined by comparison of results with average scores derived from large representative national or local samples.

II. PROBLEM

III. POSSIBLE CAUSES

There is no behavior without reason. Behind any action, there are contributory factors that lead/push an individual to do such unhealthy act. For premarital sex, these are some of the factors influencing young people to engage of the latter.

A. Family – Children who are not well-brought up are likely to fall into wrong hands.B. Peer pressure – No man is an island. Every human being has always the desire of

belongingness.C. Community – The society plays an important role in the formation of one’s behavior.

Whatever an individual perceives in his surroundings; practices which are already very familiar would greatly influence his/her character.

D. Electronic Media/Books and Magazines – These contributed to the high rate of premarital sex. What youth watch on television screen, stories they read and pictures they see in books and magazines would likely stimulate and ignite a curious mind about sex.

V. PLAN OF ACTION

Based from the result of this research/survey, some of the factors influencing a young individual to engage in premarital sex are family, peer pressure, environment and electronic media/books and magazine. It’s very alarming that electronic media/books and magazines had greatly influenced the young minds of the youths.

VI. ANALYSISThis study would somehow help the students to be aware of the possible causes why

a person could be easily persuaded by his/her emotions. Some of these behaviors are just the products of the circumstances one went through with his family, surrounding, peer and media. Most importantly, this act must not be tolerated rather should be prevented or avoided.

VII. CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION

A person engaging oneself in premarital sex is something that is indecent however before judging anybody, the factors influencing an individual to be involved with this act must also be figured out and be reflected. But one could avoid from this if there is a tight communication among

the members of the family and there is respect with one another. An individual would hesitate of doing the actions which are beyond his/her limit if she fully understands the consequences of engaging into it.

One must also be aware of her/ his sexuality. This kind of program must always be included in the office of the Guidance Counselor of every school. Government agencies whose concerns are these matters should be serious in the implementation of these programs. This problem could not be solely handled by the school’s personnel.

For this school year, we are thankful that one of the top priorities of the Honorable Governor Emmylou J. Taliño - Mendoza, is to strengthen self-awareness in students by conducting a symposium on “Adolescent Health and Youth Development” to every school in North Cotabato. The students of Amas NHS, together with 3 resource persons from POP COM office had a symposium on August 3, 2012 which promoted respect for one self and presented the danger of involving oneself with an unreasonable act. One way or another, the video they saw helped them understand why and how a person was placed into that awful situation. Likewise, the PowerPoint presentation somehow makes them reluctant/frighten in involving themselves into an act which is regretful.

I. SITUATION:For several years now the researcher have observed that the pupils in Grade III of Hayangon Primary School have been struggling in their performance in Math as indicated by the results of the yearly National Achievement Test (NAT). Poor performance is a problem manifested in various subject areas and more observable in Mathematics. In the previous years, a number of strategies and interventions were administered by the teacher to tackle the issue but only produced marginal positive result. The teacher attributed this poor performance to several factors including but not limited to the pupils’ lack of study habits, poor home reinforcement and encouragement as well as poor diet and nutrition. To assist pupils in increasing their Math MPS in the NAT, the teacher made this action research.
