1. Introduction

With Action Replay DS Media Edition you can enjoy videos, music and homebrew games on your DS, along with all the fantastic game-enhancing features of Action Replay. It also includes DataMAX, a revolutionary game-save utility that allows you to back up and restore save data to and from your DS game cartridges; fantastic if more than one person in your household wants their own profile in a game like Pokémon, using just one game cartridge. DataMAX uses the high capacity of readily-available MicroSD memory cards to store hundreds of game saves with ease.

You access all of these features through an intuitive interface that will have you getting the most out of your Action Replay DS Media Edition in minutes.

2. Getting Started

2.1. Pack ContentsYour Action Replay DS Media Edition pack should include the following parts.

1 x Action Replay DS Media Edition Cartridge 1 x Action Replay DS Media Edition PC software disc 1 x USB to MINI USB cable 1 x Memory Card Adapter User manual

Please check your contents and contact Datel’s customer services department (see back page of manual) if anything is missing.

2.2. Set-Up

2.2.1. The Action Replay DS Media Edition CartridgeTo use Action Replay DS Media Edition, insert it into the DS cart slot on your DS with the console switched off. For certain games (like Pokémon™), when using Action Replay’s cheat codes, you may need to insert your game cartridge into Action Replay’s ‘pass through’ port before booting your console too. When Action Replay boots, it automatically recognises the inserted game (if in the code list), meaning you can choose codes for the current game then press START to get straight into the action!

2.2.2. The PC SoftwareIncluded with your Action Replay DS Media Edition is a PC utilities disc that includes both Action Replay Code Manager and the MAX DS Video Encoder program.

Action Replay Code Manager allows you to add and remove codes from the code list stored on your Action Replay DS Media Edition cartridge, and download new codes directly from the Internet.

Installing the software

Insert the CD into your PC. If you have auto-run enabled, wait for the installer to automatically load. Otherwise, browse to the CD and double-click the setup.exe program. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software. Locate the program in your Start Menu to run it.

Connecting to your Action Replay cartridge

To use Action Replay Code Manager to update the code list on your Action Replay cartridge, connect your PC to the cartridge using the supplied USB lead, with the cartridge inserted in your DS. The Action Replay software needs to be running and on the UPDATE screen (see Section 3.4).

After installing Action Replay Code Manager, leave the software install CD in your CD drive because you need to direct Windows to the CD when you connect your Action Replay cartridge to your PC. The drivers are located in the root directory of the CD.

If for any reason after installation the cartridge is shown as ‘Unknown Device’ in Windows’ Device Manager, choose to ‘Reinstall Drivers’ and direct Windows to the installation CD.

Putting media on an SD memory card

To play games, movies or music on your DS using Action Replay’s Media Player functionality, load them onto a compatible MicroSD card using the memory card reader (included). Slot your MicroSD card into the card reader and connect the card reader to a free USB port on your PC. Use Windows to drag and drop files onto the device before disconnecting the card reader, removing the card and inserting it into the MicroSD memory card slot on your Action Replay DS Media Edition cartridge.

3. Using Action Replay

3.1. Quick Start Guide

Action Replay DS Media Edition’s interface is really simple. Familiarise yourself with the basic operation described in this section and you should be up and running in no time. All buttons are touch-sensitive and should be pressed by a finger or the stylus.

Boot up and play

1. Insert Action Replay DS Media Edition into your console and insert the game you would like to play into Action Replay’s pass-through port.

2. Switch the console on.3. Action Replay should recognise the game and allow you to choose codes by pressing the

Code Select button.4. Use the touch-screen to turn some codes on.5. Press the START button to launch your game with your chosen codes enabled.

What to do if Action Replay doesn’t have codes for your game

Action Replay ships with codes for all of today’s best DS games, but new games are coming out all the time. For this reason, Action Replay includes a PC application and USB lead allowing you to connect it to your PC and download new codes for the latest games directly from Datel’s official codes site, www.codejunkies.com, as well as any other sources of Action Replay codes you may find on the Internet.

If you insert a game cartridge and Action Replay DS returns the message ‘Game not found’, then must update your Action Replay cartridge. To add new codes, insert your cartridge into your DS and connect to your PC using the supplied USB lead. Put the DS into Update Mode (press the UPDATE button from the main menu) and load the Action Replay Code Manager software on your PC. Press the AUTO UPDATE button to download the latest code list.

For detailed information about what you can do with the Action Replay Code Manager software, see Section 4.)

Update Codelist

Select this option to import a code list stored on a Micro SD memory card into Action Replay. The process will look for a file called “codelist.xml” which will be automatically found and extracted when you select this option. Please note this will merge codes in the new codelist with your current code list. Codes for a game on the new codelist will replace existing codes for that game.

3.6. Resetting your Code ListIn the unlikely event that the code list on your Action Replay becomes corrupted, you need to clear the code list and restore using Action Replay Code Manager.

To perform a code list reset, turn off your console (with Action Replay inserted) and turn it back on again. From the home screen hold down buttons A+B+START+SELECT. Keeping these buttons held, tap the Action Replay option on screen. Keep the buttons held as Action Replay loads. The screen will change colour and then Action Replay will load showing ‘0’ Games and ‘0’ codes. If not, turn your DS off and try again. When successful, use Action Replay Codelist Manager to reinstall the codes.

Note: Resetting your code list should only be undertaken if your code list becomes corrupted.

4. Using Action Replay Code Manager

4.1. IntroductionThe Action Replay Code Manager software included with Action Replay DS is your means of adding exciting new Action Replay codes. Use Action Replay Code Manager to build your own code lists from a variety of sources, including www.codejunkies.com and independent websites.

4.2. Updating your PC Software and Cartridge Firmware

To ensure maximum compatibility with the latest games, and access to the improved features, always make sure you keep both the Action Replay Code Manager PC application, and the Action Replay firmware on the cartridge, up to date.

IMPORTANT: It is essential that both the PC software and the cartridge firmware are updated where new software for both is available.

To check for updates, in your PC application, click the ‘Software Update’ button (top-right corner of the screen). This connects to the Codejunkies.com server and looks for newer PC and firmware software. If an update is found, you’re asked to confirm you want to update your software. After choosing ‘Yes’, firmware updates (if available) are written to the Action Replay cartridge and new PC software (if available) is installed in the program folder.

VERY IMPORTANT: Never perform an update when your DS is displaying its ‘Low Battery’ light, or even when it might be low on battery. Also, it is imperative that you do not disconnect or otherwise physically disturb your PC-to-DS cartridge connection whilst writing a firmware update.

After a firmware update is performed, you’re prompted to reboot your DS console to complete the installation. After a PC software update, you must restart the Action Replay Code list Manager software.

4.3. Overview

Page 11: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

4.3.1. Nintendo DS Window

Note: Follow the instructions below to connect Action Replay Code List Manager to your Action Replay cartridge to perform any of the code list operations described in this chapter.

When Action Replay is put into UPDATE mode (see Section 3.4) and connected via USB to your PC, the Nintendo DS window in Code List Manager displays the contents of the code list stored on the cartridge. If for any reason the software is unable to connect to your Action Replay cartridge, you will not see anything. Check your connections and hit the ‘Refresh’ button.

Important: Action Replay Code Manager will not allow you to write any changes to the code list on the DS cartridge if the ‘Battery Low’ warning light is illuminated. This is to prevent corruption of code list should the DS power down during a write operation.

In the very rare event that corruption does occur (for instance, if the cable is disconnected during a write operation), follow the instructions for ‘Code list Reset’ in Section 3.6.

Use your mouse to highlight individual codes, or use CTRL to select multiple games. Selected games can be deleted (freeing up code list space on your Action Replay cartridge), or dragged into code lists listed in My Code Lists. Should you wish to delete all games from the code list, click the ‘Clear Code List’ button.

4.3.2. Subscriptions WindowThe subscriptions system in Action Replay Code List Manager is designed to make it as easy as possible for you to connect to and download content. Subscriptions use an RSS-style link that content providers can create which links to a file containing codes they have created. Use the tabs along the bottom of the ‘Subscriptions’ window to change between different subscriptions.

You can drag games included in any subscription list into either code lists in the ‘My Codelists’ window, or directly into the code list stored on your DS (in the ‘Nintendo DS’ window).

Because code lists you have subscribed to are not stored on your computer, you cannot delete or modify individual codes, games or code lists shown in this window. You can remove a subscription completely by clicking its tab to make it active and then clicking ‘unsubscribe’.

4.3.3. My Code Lists WindowUse the ‘My Code Lists’ window to build your own code lists to share with others, or to copy over to your Action Replay cartridge. Because code lists in this window are stored on your own PC, you can remove all codes and games you do not require (making space for games you own) and also combine codes from multiple sources like Codejunkies.com and other sites hosting Action Replay codes.

Select an entire code list by clicking its title. When selected, you can drag a code list to any location on your PC, copy it to your DS (codes in it are merged with codes already on your Action Replay cartridge unless you clear the code list first) or delete it completely.

4.4. Adding New Codes from Codejunkies.comOnly codes created by Datel’s team of expert programmers are guaranteed to work with your Action Replay. The Action Replay Code Manager software is already set up to access codes from

Page 12: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

Codejunkies.com. There are two ways to update your cartridge with codes from Codejunkies.com. Either drag codes from the Codejunkies.com code list shown in your ‘Subscriptions’ window, or use the ‘Quick Update’ button on the menu bar.

Codejunkies.com in the ‘Subscriptions’ window

If you want to see ALL of the codes and games stored on the Codejunkies.com server available for you to download and then hand-pick which codes to add to your code lists, the ‘Subscriptions’ window is the way to go.

1. Select the Codejunkies.com tab in the ‘Subscriptions’ window (initially, this is the only tab available).

2. Choose the appropriate code list (US, EURO etc.) by clicking the [+] sign.3. When all the games in the code list are displayed, click to highlight an individual game or use

CTRL and click to highlight multiple files.4. Drag and drop the selected codes either directly to the code list on your Action Replay (use

the ‘Nintendo DS’ window) or into a code list on your PC (use the ‘My Code Lists’ window).

Using the ‘Quick Update’ button

Note: Using the ‘Quick Update’ code list clears codes already on your Action Replay cartridge. Because the Quick Update code list does not contain all codes for all games, you could find you lose some codes you wanted. In this case, use the Codejunkies.com subscription method to get new codes instead.

If total simplicity is what you’re looking for, use the ‘Quick Update’ button to add the latest version of the code list. Due to the huge number of codes created for Action Replay, the ‘Quick Update’ code list will not contain all codes available. Generally, a good selection of codes for the newest and most popular games are included but if you want access to every code for every game, use the Codejunkies.com subscription tab, described above.

1. Press the ‘Quick Update’ button on the menu bar.2. The existing code list on your Action Replay cartridge is cleared before the new code list is

written to it.3. Wait for the progress bar to complete (which, due to the size of the code list, may take

several minutes).

4.5. Adding New Codes from Other SourcesCodes not supplied through Datel’s Codejunkies.com server are unofficial and therefore not supported by Datel however, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t get lots of fun out of downloading and using them with your Action Replay DS.

Remember: Datel’s technical support department are unable to provide specific support or assistance relating unofficial codes.

Warning: There is a potential for unofficial codes to corrupt/damage your gamesaves stored on a game cartridge.

Page 13: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

4.5.1. Adding a New SubscriptionThe most ‘tech savvy’ community sites might create an RSS style link, compatible with Action Replay Code Manager, that indexes their code lists and allows you to subscribe to their content. To do this, copy the link they display on their website, click the ‘Add subscription’ button below the ‘Subscriptions’ window and paste the link in the blank field. After you click OK, Code Manager will try to retrieve the index of the subscription. If successful, you see code lists included in the subscription, which can be expanded to display their games and codes.

4.5.2. Transferring Codes to Your Action Replay CartridgeExpand the code list for the new subscription until you can see individual games listed. You can then drag-and-drop games listed in a subscription into a code list shown in ‘My Code Lists’ or ‘Nintendo DS’ window. There’s a delay at this point whilst the codes are downloaded from the provider’s server. If you chose to add the codes directly to your Action Replay cartridge, once the download is complete, they’re immediately available. If you added them to a code list shown in ‘My Code Lists’ then you need to drag-and-drop the codes from there onto the code list shown in the ‘Nintendo DS’ window before you can use them on your DS.

4.5.3. Adding Codes as FilesAction Replay Code Manager also allows you to add codes to your Action Replay DS cartridge or a code list stored on your PC as an XML file. If you find an XML code list file on a website that you would like to use on your Action Replay DS, simply drag-and-drop the XML file into the ‘My Code Lists’ window. Expand the code list to see individual games and codes. You can drag games (but not individual codes) from this code list to any other code list in the ‘My Code Lists’ window or directly onto the code list on your Action Replay DS cartridge in the ‘Nintendo DS’ window.

4.6. Creating your own Code ListsAction Replay Code List Manager allows you to build your own code lists on your PC by combining codes from any other code list displayed in Code Manager. Code Lists you build are ready to transfer to your cartridge or share with others by dragging your code list out of Action Replay Code Manager to create an XML file that can be imported into Code Manager by other gamers. If you’re interested in finding out how ‘hackers’ actually create the codes themselves, read on to Section 4.6.2.

4.6.1. Using the ‘My Code Lists’ WindowWhen you first use Action Replay Code Manager there won’t be any code lists in the ‘My Code List’ window. To create your first code lists, drag an existing code list into ‘My Code List’ as a starting point (try dragging an entire Codejunkies.com code lists into ‘My Code List’) or you can click the ‘New Code List’ button.

If you use an existing code lists as a starting point, go through the new code lists and highlight any games you would like to remove. When you’re ready, click the ‘Delete’ button. Your code lists are smaller, containing only the games from the original code lists that you chose not to delete. To add games to your code lists, drag and drop them from other code lists visible through the Code Manager, for example from other code lists in ‘My Code List’ or from any code lists you are subscribed to. You can rename a code lists by clicking its title and then re-clicking to enter label edit mode or by highlighting it then clicking the ‘Rename’ button.

Page 14: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

4.6.2. How the Code Creators Do ItOfficial Action Replay DS codes are created by a team of highly skilled hackers who understand that nuts and bolts of how games work. They use a combination of hardware and software connected to the DS to analyse the way a game behaves in different situations and then try modifying this behaviour, a process referred to in-house as ‘Game Training’.

For the first time in many years, Datel has released this hardware and software as a product available to buy from Codejunkies.com, though be warned; this is a product aimed at only the most technically-minded individuals. For more information on Datel’s Trainer Toolkit, check out the shop on Codejunkies.com. Casual gamers need not apply.

PLEASE NOTE: Action Replay Media Edition is packed with so many extra features like the Media Player and DataMAX there simply wasn’t room for the extra code required to make this version of Action Replay suitable for use with the Trainer Toolkit. Aspiring code creators will need to buy the standard version of Action Replay DS to use in conjunction with Trainer Toolkit.

4.7. Manual Code EntryAs well as downloading codes direct from the internet via the Action Replay Code List Manager, you can now enter them manually using the built-in virtual keyboard. All codes created by Datel are uploaded to the Codejunkies.com server and available to download in the usual way, but if you can’t download them directly via USB, or you wish to add codes you found on the internet or in a magazine, manual code entry is the way to go. Remember, Datel can only support official codes created by our in-house code-cracking team. We can’t help with unofficial codes, or those created by enthusiasts using Datel’s Trainer Toolkit for DS.

4.7.1. Entering a New GameIf the game for which you’re adding codes is already in your codes list, go straight to Section 5.4: Adding New Codes. If it’s not already in the list, read on…

4.7.2. Game IdentifierFirst of all, make sure you have to hand the game in question and the list of codes you wish to enter. The code list should include a Game Identifier, or Game ID. For example, the Need for Speed: Most Wanted codes, include the Game ID ‘ANWP 7dde2c93’. If your code list doesn’t offer a Game ID, insert the Action Replay for DS cart into your NDS and switch on the console. On the home screen, where you’re invited to ‘Insert Game Cart’, remove the Action Replay cartridge and replace it with the game in question. At the bottom of the upper screen, under the name of the game cart (or ‘Unknown game’ if it wasn’t recognised), you find the Game ID code. Write it down, and then remove the game cart and insert Action Replay once more.

4.7.3. Entering the Game Name and Game IDTo get to the Code Entry section, press the ‘Code Select’ button (the asterisk) on Action Replay’s home screen. If the game you’re adding codes for isn’t already in the code list, select the first option in the list, (Add New Game) by pressing ‘A’ to select.

You’re now taken to the Virtual Keyboard, and invited to add the name of the game. Do so, then press ‘Next’. You’re asked for the New Game ID, which is sometimes called the Game Identifier. If you followed the instructions in Section 4.7.2, you should have this to hand. Enter it in the same way

Page 15: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

you entered the game name, and then press ‘Next’. However they’re presented, the characters are not case sensitive – you can only type in capitals at this stage, but it doesn’t matter. Also, if there’s a space in the middle of the Game ID, enter this as a hyphen.

When you’ve entered the Game ID, press ‘Next’. You’re invited to ‘Add New Code’.

4.7.4. New Codes for Existing GamesIf you want to add new codes for a game that’s already in your codes list, select the game in question then select the ‘Add New Code’ option at the top of the codes list.

4.7.5. Entering CodesYou must now enter the name for the new code. It can be anything you like. So if, for example, the code you found on the web is labelled ‘Max Respect’ and you’d prefer to call it ‘Maximum Respect’, you can – what you enter as the name doesn’t affect the code. Enter the code name, and press ‘Next’ to go to the Code Entry Screen.

[code_entry.jpg]

Again codes aren’t case sensitive – it doesn't matter whether the letters are offered as lower case or capitals. You must enter the whole code for it to work. Don’t worry about spaces or new lines, as these are added automatically. If you enter a character incorrectly, use the cursor buttons to move to the cursor and then edit the code as needed.

When you’ve entered the code and are satisfied it’s correct, press ‘Next’. The codes available for the game in question are listed. Activate them in the usual way, or choose ‘Add New Code’ once more to add further cheats.

4.7.6. Editing CodesIf you find you entered a code incorrectly, or made a mistake when entering the game or cheat name, you can edit it through the virtual keyboard. To edit a game name or ID code, from Action Replay Home Screen, press the ‘Codes’ button (the asterisk), highlight the game you wish to edit and press the ‘Edit’ button (the one that looks like a pencil). You’re given the chance to edit the game name. If necessary, use the cursor to move around the game name, and edit it as appropriate. When you’re happy, press ‘Next’. You then get to edit the Game ID. Again, do so if necessary, and then press ‘Next’ to be taken to the Codes Selection Screen.

To edit a code or code title, go to the Code Selection Screen for the game in question and highlight the code you wish to edit. Press the ‘Edit’ button (the pencil) and edit the title or the code itself before pressing ‘Next’ to return to the Code Selection Screen. New codes you enter will be automatically saved to Action Replay’s memory and available next time you use your Action Replay.

4.7.7. INS and OVR ModesOn the top-right corner of the Virtual Keyboard is a box marked ‘Mode’, displaying either INS or OVR. If the cursor is in the middle of the code or name and the Mode is set to INS, or ‘insert’, typing new characters inserts them into what’s already there. If in OVR Mode, or ‘Over-write’, new characters are typed over the top of what’s already there. Try it and see…

5. Media Player

Page 16: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

The Media Player functionality built into Action Replay Media Edition allows you to browse and play compatible content stored on any inserted Micro SD memory card. To get started, it makes sense to first put some music or video files on your Micro SD memory card.

IMPORTANT: Please note that whilst Action Replay Media Edition is compatible with any standard Micro SD memory card, it is NOT compatible with the new SDHC (High Capacity) Micro SD format.

5.1. Connecting your MicroSD Card to your PCGetting games, audio and video onto your Media Player couldn’t be simpler:

1. Insert a MicroSD memory card into the MicroSD USB adapter (included) then connect the adapter to a free USB port on your PC.

2. Windows automatically recognises the MicroSD card as a ‘Removable Mass Storage Device’ and assigns it a drive letter.

Once you have connected the adapter to your PC, use ‘Windows Explorer’ or ‘My Computer’ to add MP3s directly to the MicroSD card.

To help you organise your files, it’s suggested you use the default folders named:

VIDEO AUDIO GAMES

Media Player will automatically recognise these folder names and use appropriate icons for them. You can also create any additional folders you like to help you organise your content. Media Player’s browser allows you to traverse any depth of folders and sub-folders.

25 Free Mini GamesIncluded on the Action Replay Media Edition PC Utilities disc are 25 mini games that will give you a taste of the fantastic free homebrew games that you can now play on your DS.

To play these games simply pop the PC Utilities disc in your computer, browse to the disc and open the ‘ROMS’ folder. In there you will see 25 ‘.nds’ files which you can copy onto a Micro SD memory card to use with the Media Player feature.

5.2. Creating D3V Video Using MAX DS Video ConverterBefore you copy your video files to your memory card, you must first convert them into Media Player’s special video format, D3V. Do this using the MAX DS Video Converter as follows:

Installing MAX DS Video ConverterInsert the Action Replay Media Edition Utilities Disc CD into your drive and wait for the installation to auto-run. If auto-run is not enabled on your PC, browse to the CD and double-click the SETUP file. Follow the on-screen prompts to install the software, then double-click the program icon to run MAX DS Video Converter.

Converting Video Files into D3V VideoUsing MAX DS Video Converter is really simple. Click the desktop icon to run the program, and browse for the video file you want to convert. Once you have selected the file, click the ‘Encode’

Page 17: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

button to begin encoding. MAX DS Video Converter uses settings optimised for playback on Media Player to transcode a wide range of source video types (avi, mpg, mov, etc) into DS-ready video. Progress is indicated by a bar near the bottom of the application.

Once complete, a copy of your source video has been made in D3V format in the same folder as the source video. Use Windows’ drag-and-drop functionality to copy the D3V movie file to the VIDEO folder on your MicroSD memory card (if connected), ready to playback on your DS/DS Lite.

5.3. Inserting the MicroSD Card into your CartridgeOnce you’ve added some music, games or video files to your MicroSD card, remove it from the USB adapter and carefully slide the memory card into the slot in the top of your cartridge before slotting the cartridge into your DS and booting your console and select Media Player. You see the loading screen, followed by the browser screen which displays the contents stored on the MicroSD card.

5.4. Using Media Player on the DS

5.4.1. The Touch Screen InterfaceOnce you’ve followed all the steps in the previous sections, you’re ready to start playing your music, videos or games. Familiarise yourself with the controls in this section.

6. Using DataMAX

6.1. IntroductionAction Replay DS Media Edition’s DataMAX function is the complete solution for backing up, restoring and exchanging your Nintendo® DS game saves. DataMAX provides you with a way to save multiple times in games (like Pokémon) which would otherwise let you make only one save, meaning two or more people can play on the same game cart without interfering with each others’ games!

6.2. Creating and Managing UsersFirst time you use DataMAX, you must create at least one user account. After creating an account for yourself, whenever you log in, any saves you back up or restore are placed in your own special folder. You can create up to four user accounts.

Enter your Nickname

Use the on-screen keyboard to enter the nickname for your account. Nicknames can be up to 15 characters long, and can only use the standard characters shown on the keyboard (the special characters key on the keyboard is disabled).

Choose your Colour Scheme

Next, use LEFT and RIGHT to highlight the colour scheme of your choice. You can also change the colour scheme at the main menu using the console’s shoulder buttons.

Choose your User Icon

Use LEFT and RIGHT to highlight the icon you would like to use and press ‘A’. You’re returned to the home screen with your new account available for use. To create additional accounts, repeat the above steps. To log into your account, highlight it and press button ‘A’.

NOTE: If you have more than one account, saves backed up from games are only visible in the account of the person that carried out the back-up. Downloaded Power Saves are visible, and available, to all users.

6.3. Backing up a Game SaveLog into the account you would like to back up the save to, and choose BACK UP CART from the menu.

Entering the Game Name

First enter the name of the game you’re backing up. Use the on-screen keyboard. When you’re done, highlight the DONE key and press ‘A’.

Page 20: Action Replay DS Media Edition - Datel Advanced … ar media... · Web viewTap ‘Media Player’ to play music, video or homebrew games stored on an SD memory card inserted into

Entering the Save-Name

The next step is to name the save. Use the on-screen keyboard again. You can also enter an extended description for each save, though this is optional and can be skipped by pressing DONE.

6.4. Restoring a Game-SaveOnce you’ve backed up one or more game saves, you can restore them at any time. Before you restore a game-save, make sure you consider the following:

The game-save you restore completely overwrites the game-save on the currently-inserted DS game cart. Should you first back up the current save?

Is the game-save you’re going to restore for the currently-inserted game? If not you could permanently damage your DS game cart.

Once you’re sure you don’t need to first back up the game cart’s current save and that the save you’re about to restore is for the inserted game cart, proceed as follows:

Log into the appropriate user account and choose RESTORE CART from the menu by highlighting the option and pressing ‘A’. You can see an extended description of the save by highlighting it and pressing ‘Select’.

6.4.1. Choose the Game-Save to Restore

Use UP and DOWN to highlight the correct game and press button ‘A’ to open its folder. If you haven’t used the ‘auto complete’ feature to enter the game name of your backed-up game saves you may find that certain games have more than one similar entry in your list (to tidy this up see Section 6.5, Managing Your Game-Saves).

Highlight the game-save you would like to restore and press ‘A’ (or RIGHT) to move the highlight to the menu bar on the right. Choose DONE and press ‘A’ again. You’re asked whether you’re sure. Choose YES to restore the game-save to your DS cart. The restore is now complete.

6.5. Managing your Game-SavesUse the MANAGE SAVES option from your user area home screen to rename and delete your game-saves. You see all the game-saves in your user area listed, grouped together by their game names. Press ‘A’ to open or close a folder.

6.5.1. Editing a Game-Save’s Details

To edit a game name, save title or save-description for a save, highlight it in the list and press ‘A’ (or RIGHT). Choose EDIT and press ‘A’. You can also press ‘Select’ to display the save description. You first have the option to make a change to the game-name of the save. On the next screen you can change the name of the game-save. On the third screen, you can change the description.

6.5.2 Deleting a Game-Save

To delete an unwanted game-save, simply highlight it in the list and press ‘A’ (or RIGHT) to access the side menu. Highlight DELETE and press ‘A’. You’re asked to confirm the delete. If you’re sure,
