The new generation of boats are loaded with features to make boating with the family easier and more enjoyable than ever. Boating is one of the best ways to enjoy the Michigan outdoors with your family and friends, and off ers a multitude of activities that everyone can enjoy. If you’re ready to upgrade your next summer with a boat today, or you’re considering a boat in the future; read the 2014 smart boat buyers guide below to get the most out of your purchase.

WHY BUYING IN THE FALL IS SMARTWhat time of year is the best to buy a new boat?Boat manufacturer’s employ hundreds of workers to handcraft each and every boat. Inorder to streamline production, and employ their skilled craftsmen throughout all 12 months of the year, manufacturers must off er the largest discounts in the fall to stimulate sales when demand is at its lowest. Fall is now the best time in the model year to purchase a new boat; even better than the boat show!

How much do I really save by purchasing in the Fall?Manufacturers off er an early buy rebate of up to $10,000 and Boat Show rebates of up to $5,000 to encourage preseason buyers. We are able to combine both rebates for Fall buy-ers as well as off er a guarantee that Fall prices will be the lowest prices of the 2014 model year.

How does buying a boat in the Fall eff ect my trade in value?Smart buyers receive a higher trade-invalue by selling in the Fall of 2013 instead of waiting until the Spring or Summer of 2014 when your boat is another model year older. Current used boat values are tracking higher than NADA values, so now is a great time to get the most out of your boat. Trading in your boat now also means no Fall service or storage bills for 2013. We’ll cover all your Fall service and storage expenses saving you additional money.

What other benefi ts do I get for buying in the Fall? With slower production and long lead times, it can take months before your boat arrives at the dealership. If you wait until the boat show to purchase a boat, it might not arrive until July! Buying in the Fall is the only way to guarantee your boat will be ready to hit the water in the Spring when you are. There are hundreds of color schemes to customize your new boat. Early buyers are able to customize their boat colors and options, and build the boat that truly fi ts their family.

2014PROSTAR

MASTERCRAFT TEAM TALK: THE NEW PROSTAR When MasterCraft sets out to design the next generation tournament ski boat, there is a notice-ably diff erent feeling in the factory. World records might be awarded at the lake, but everyone at Mas-terCraft knows that designing and building the next generation boat is their chance at leaving a mark on the sport. In order to improve upon the illustri-ous ProStar 190 and 197, MasterCraft made the de-cision to relocate team skier Marcus Brown to the factory for 9 months working hand and hand with the design team. Marcus, a civil engineer himself, brought a wealth of knowledge as a pro skier and was able to communicate on another level with the engineering team at MasterCraft in the develop-ment of the new boat. The new ProStar was offi cially unveiled on August 7th shocking the world with many ground breaking features like the hybrid open/closed bow design, revolutionary new locking ski racks, and of course, a world class ski wake that everyone at every speed and line length have been raving about. We caught up with MasterCraft team skiers Freddy Krueger, Ryan Dodd, and MasterCraft team manager Aarne Clow to get the inside scoop on the new boat.

How do you begin designing a new world class

tournament ski boat?

Freddy: 30 months ago we sat down and created a wish list of what we wanted to see in the new boat. When you have a chance to design the new tourna-ment boat, you have a chance to build something special.Aarne: This boat is purpose built. We benchmarked all of the competitors and started with this boat part-by-part, piece-by-piece. We looked at each piece and asked how much does it weigh down to the individual screw level. A great example is the steering wheel. The ProStar steering wheel is 6 lbs. lighter than our X-Series steering wheel. The new boat as a whole is actually longer and wider than the previous 190/197 hull, but it weighs in about 300 lbs. lighter, further reducing the size of the wake.

What made you decide to combine the 190/197

into a single boat with a modular removable cover?

Freddy: The key is interchangeability. One of the really unique features with the new ProStar was the thought that this boat could be a modular build. Right now we know there are a lot of private lake owners that are buying open bow boats with rear seats largely because the resale is better; even if they’d rather have a closed bow. They get the boat home and the fi rst thing they do is store their back seat in the garage and never use it. So the engi-neering team at MasterCraft went to work to design a boat that has options so the boat can be built ex-actly how the buyer wants it, and yet the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th, owner of the boat can still add or remove com-ponents to setup the boat exactly how they like it as well. The back seats, bow seats, and bow cover, can all be added or removed, or purchased at a later date.Ryan: The cover looks cool and the team at Mas-terCraft has done a great job making sure that the modular parts live up to the MasterCraft standards. You can walk up and down that bow cover and it doesn’t even fl ex. Yet I can still lift it up and remove it with one arm.

We’ve already heard customers ask about the

pickle fork bow. Why stray from the traditional

bow?

Freddy: MasterCraft was the fi rst company to intro-duce the picklefork to the market with the Xstar. The picklefork nose styling carries on the MasterCraft iconic look and creates a nice entry point into the boat.

What changes have been made to the helm of the

new boat?

Freddy: The diff erence in the cockpit of the current 190/197 to the new ProStar is EVERYTHING! Every-thing from the steering wheel, to the drivers seat is diff erent in the ProStar. The Zero off controls have been integrated into the new touch screen and make controlling the settings easier than ever.

Ryan: I hadn’t seen the touch screen until it was a fi nished product and I remember using the touch screen for the fi rst time and everything was exactly where I expected it. Any setting you need to change you just touch that setting on the screen and it just feels intuitive and natural.

Any fi nal thoughts before we wrap this one up?

Ryan: One of the things that wasn’t necessarily a target from the beginning of ours but we picked up on along the way was the rhythm of the boat. For me, jumping in the past, I’ve struggled with the pow-er of some of the other boats. Sometimes it jumps on you all at once and feels like it’s pulling your arms off . We’ve already run a pro event with the ProStar running both slalom and jump with the 6.2 Ilmor and we heard a lot of compliments about how smooth the pull was. People couldn’t believe the boat had a 6.2 engine until we’d pop open the engine hatch and proved it. Freddy: At this point in time as of today I think be-tween all of us sitting here, we feel like we don’t have a way of making the boat better as of now. The team at MasterCraft killed it with this boat and we’re really excited to get more people in the boat to experience it fi rst hand.
