★ TIT BITS

Kathy Bingham passed away on the 16th August 1991. Kathy worked at the Centre in the early years. She has a young daughter, Marsha. When I first met Marsha, she was on the Children's Program. Now she is a young mother herself.

Congratulations to Debbie Walters and Shane Tantic who announced their engagement on the 2nd August, 1991 and celebrated at the Last Laugh. We wish them all the best.

How times fly. It seems only yesterday when long, lanky, Wayne Walters was running around the old Centre with his backside out of his pants, and he is now 28 years old. Heannounced his engagement to Marlene at the Empress Hotel. I believe there were 78 people to help them celebrate and everyone enjoyed themselves.Sorry I couldn't make it Wayne and Marlene. Best of luck for your future.

Members went to visit the family camp at Christmas Pines on the 13th August. They had a lovely time, although some members were late booking in and missed out.The family camp is now booked out and it is only August. All members had the same chance to book as everyone received a letter and it was in the Arcives. In the future, members will have to make up their minds because, as the saying goes, 'first in best dressed'.

Good luck to Norma Hampton. She's taken off overseas for seven weeks. Old members will remember Norma from the Family Centre days. Young mothers will remember Norma at Limurru Day Centre. Those who know you, Norma, wish you all the best.

Well, I won't be around for the next five weeks, so good luck to you all.

P.S. More news still to come re marriage and more news about babies.

Well I'll say goodbye to you all. I've picked a really good time to get out and leave the work to Nancy and the staff to get ready for the AGM.

LETTERS * * *

We went out on a day outing in the mini bus to the new holiday camp at Christmas Pines. It was a lovely day. The holidaycamp was very lovely with all the lovely bush about the camp.I enjoyed the day outing with the ARC members and they all enjoyed it too and we all had a good time together. Also, happy 23rd anniversary to Hum and Dad who were married on the 24th September.ROBBIE ABERLINE

It was a good trip to Noojee but things weren't funny when the bus broke down. I like the camp site very much and it is set up for fishing, swimming and bushwalking .Darren, Robert and Jason went for a scenic tour in a four wheel drive with Don and Peter, the owners. I liked the people there as they were very friendly.See you there in January, 1992.DARREN PARKER

We went to see our new camp site and it was absolutely lovely. We have a slight walk up a hill to get to our cabins but they are set out really nicely with a nice little lounge, then you have your bedroom and bathroom next to the kitchen. They also have fishing, horse rides and nature walks.Although the bus went caput twice, the trip was enjoyable. Thanks Cath.

There ore now more than 1 million Australians unemployed. 200,000 of these have been unemployed for at least one year. They include young people, older people, middle aged, skilled, unskilled, city and country dwellers.

DAY!wED. OCT 2

CO-OPERATIVE DAY CELEBRATION \ \

SUMMARY OF POINTS

Co-operatives have open and voluntary memberships.Members of co-operatives have a responsibility of supporting the co-operative, participating in meetings and other activities which help the co-operative and the co-operative movement generally.Co-operatives are democratic organisations.Members enjoy equal rights of voting (one member, one vote) and participation in decisions affecting their cooperative .Those elected to office are accountable to the members.Share capital is provided by the members, not as an investment for capital gain, but to service the needs of members and the organisation.A co-operative can choose to retain funds for the further development of the organisation and the services it provides.Co-operatives are recognising the need to work at better informing the general community about the co-operative way and about the co-operative structure as a means of pursuing common goals and objectives.Co-operatives work hard for their member-owners and their communities.Co-operatives work because efficiently and economically. they meet people's needs

Co-operatives differ from other forms of organisation in that benefits from a co-operative are based upon use not ownership of it.

* * L E T T E r s **CHRISTMAS PINES

On Tuesday the 13th August, we went to Christmas Pines. It was a lovely day for the trip. Poor Cathy had a bit of trouble with our bus, but it didn't take long before we were on our way again. When we got up there, the owners made all of us very welcome; they were very nice people. The huts were very clean and looked very comfy (cosy). On our way home, it rained that hard we could hardly see out of the window but we were all glad to be back as it was a long trip and a lot of us were looking forward to a nice up,of tea. -•LYN S

NOOJEE OUTING 13/8/91

The drive up to Noojee was really nice with the tree ferns, blossoms, wattle and green paddocks with cows and horses. Some of the way was winding and Cathy had to help the bus up some hills by pretending she was riding a horse. The place itself has something for everyone. There are about nine or ten cabins, complete with lounge, kitchen and bedroom. The chap said he will fix the beds to suit us, which I thought was nice of him.The rumpus room has 2 dart boards, ping pong, snooker, television, record player, fire and a tea urn.Apart from the kitchens in the huts, there is a big dining room and kitchen if we want a communal meal. There is a lake for swimming and fishing, a trampoline and swing, and plenty of trees and walks.Cathy did very well with her driving. She was well and truly broken in, what with the bus refusing to start twice because the wire had slipped from the starter button, then having to drive through very heavy rain and very strong winds on the way home, but she took it all in her stride. Good on you Cathy and thanks.GLAD AND JIMMY SHEARS

Page 14: ACTION AND RESOURCE CENTRE CO-OPERATIVE LTD. PROVIDES …library.bsl.org.au/bsljspui/bitstream/1/8534/1/ARCives... · 2016. 2. 1. · Good luck to Norma Hampton. She's taken off overseas

By the response to the day outing to Christmas Pines Holiday Farm, it would seem that day outings are very popular. Six people missed out on the day outing as the ARC bus can only seat 15 people. It is necessary to book in advance for a day trip. Bookings are taken two weeks prior to the trip and a deposit is required. The next day outing is Tuesday, September, 10th, then we have a break for a month as the Children's Program will be using the bus over the school holidays. On Tuesday, October the 8th, we will be going on a river cruise and having a picnic on the Yarra so bring your own lunch. The cost is $5.00 which is higher than usual, but you have a month to save up.Check out the Activity Calendar for the other day trips.A bit about each activityBotanic Gardens trip. - As you will see on the Activity Calendar, we will be visiting the craft cottage in the Botanic Gardens. The morning will be spent watching a demonstration of basketry and pot-pourri making, then back at ARC that same week, we will do the crafts ourselves. It will be an interesting morning and even more interesting making the things yourself. So if you want to make a gift for someone or decorate your home, don't miss out on these days. Maximum number 14.Market visits - Yes, they're back - trips to the Queen Vic Market. There is a wide variety of vegies, fruit etc. and it's cheaper than the supermarkets. So why don't you get a few people together and come shopping. Shopping days are Friday morning - dates are on the Activity Calendar. Please note for these trips to run, we require a minimum of 5 people.Cooking - Throughout September and October, we have cooking. It costs 50 cents and what you make you can eat at ARC or take it home. So come along and have some fun in the kitchen.Darts and Pool - Well, for two months we have had a darts competition which is going really well so we have decided to- introduce a pool (billiards) competition as well. Check your calendar for dates of the pool and darts competitions. More players welcome!Craft - Other than the basket weaving and pot-pourri, we are making some interesting and useful items in crafts-

Flower pots - We will be painting clay flower pots, so if you want to brighten up your kitchen or lounge, don't miss this session.Key rings - Come along and make your own personal key ring, it's a great idea for a gift. Some key ring ideas - footy colours, different shapes and sizes.

Swap - If you have anything you don't need anymore, thenbring it along to ARC on Wednesday, 18th September, and swapit. To make swap day successful and to be able to participate, you need to have something to swap. So bringyour goodies along and swap them for other goodies.Swim and spa - Due to the cold weather, swim and spa hasbeen taken off in September, but is back for the spring (October). So fight off those colds and be ready for swim and spa in October

/Camps - Family CampWell I'm sorry to say but the Family Camp is now booked out. For those who are going, the balance is required by Friday, 20th December.Adult CampI'm happy to say that the Adult Camp in November at Rosebud flats still has a few vacancies. So if you feel like a week at the beach relaxing, book now or you'll miss out. A deposit of $5 is required.NEW NEWSARC is thinking of running a camping/fishing trip away, though before anymore planning can be done, we need to know how many people (males and females) are interested.Note - this is an adult trip and the cost will be minimal. So if you're keen, give Cath a ring at ARC.PLEASE NOTE IThe cost of each activity is on the Activity Calendar and the price is for members. Non-members have to pay full price.
