THINGS TO INCLUDE IN QUESTION 1 CONVENTIONS
This question is simply asking you to identify the conventions of the genre, but look carefully as there might be some conventions which are unusual.
The more of these terms you can mention the higher your mark!
TERMINOLOGY TO USE
- Convention- Protagonist- Antagonist- Damsel in Distress- Hero / Heroine- Quest- Villain- Weapon- Death- Violence- Romance- Conflict / Chases / War / Fighting- Hybrid Genre (maybe with Comedy, Romance
or Sci-Fi)- Resourceful- Powerful- Weak- Outnumbered YOUR ANSWER
- If you see any of the words above in the clip, can you give examples, so you might say something like:
“The Protagonist Martin is fighting a powerful enemy, he is resourceful because in the clip he uses a rope to swing over the hole in the ground to get away from the antagonists army, he is clearly outnumbered in the clip which is a convention of action adventure”
and
“In the extract the protagonist Martin makes a joke whilst saving the damsel in distress Linda, this reflects the hybridity of the genre with comedy as there is always comedy within action adventure”
and
“Conflict is represented by violence in this clip, there is a lot of fighting between the protagonist and the antagonist, action is hybridized with romance and the hero saves the damsel in distress, this is a common theme in action adventure, I have seen this in such films as Indiana Jones”
