Dear parents and friends,

It has been a busy and productive fortnight since the last

newsletter. We have had a terrific day in Ballarat visiting

the Fine Art Gallery, followed by a performance of the

book ‘Possum Magic’ in the renovated Her Majesty’s

Theatre. Both destinations were excellent and worthy of a

day out. Hail to our bus driver Graham.

Christmas is just around the corner so soon we’ll be

singing the Chrissy songs. Of course, that also means that

concert is coming up. The children are very excited, but

don’t quiz them too hard as they want some elements to

be a surprise. Bring along family and friends for Mon 16th.

Yesterday we ended up in the garden and planted some

sunflower and zucchini seeds. They are quite old, so

hopefully they will still germinate. We need some mulch,

so if you have a bale of straw handy, the school would appreciate it. Also, our compost bin is now empty so

feel free to donate so that we can improve the soil. It’s looking a bit hungry.

STEAM Days At group days this year we have done Science, Music, Art and Sport. I am telling you about Art and Sport.

Every recess Prep to grade 2 do sport with Mr Tolliday, our

sport teacher. At lunch grade 3 and up do sport. In Art we are

learning about Leonardo Di Vinci, Edgar Degas and Van Gogh.

This week we used oil pastels to have a go at drawing one of

van Gogh paintings using quick, sharp, little dashes. The

painting I chose was Starry Night. At the end of the lesson we

do a quick reflection and Stacy takes a photo of our art. By

On group days we do music. We play the drums, keyboard, guitars and ukulele. We also sing. One of the sons was from the Beatles and another song from the Black Eyed Peas. Mr Tromp has been teaching us some songs too. By Cedes

Monday Science On Mondays, when it’s not a Steam Day, we have had science with Mr Tromp. Last week in Science we

learnt about surface tension. When 2 hydrogen atoms and 1 oxygen atom stick-together they turn into a H2O

molecule. Then heaps of H2O molecules stick-together to make a drop of water. When a cup of water is full

all of the H2O molecules, the water sticks together in a bond, almost like a hand-shake all around each one

(heaps of hands, hey.) But the molecules on the surface of the water don’t have any molecules on top of

them so they have extra strong bond with the molecules next to them. This makes an extra thick skin of

water molecules on the surface. This is surface tension.

This tension pulls water together in bubbles. You can see that Bailey was able to make a bubble on top of a

coin. We were able to put over 20 drops on a 20c coin. We were also able to float a paper clip on the surface

Camp Wyuna The Pyrenees Schools are offering the chance for students to go on a camp to Queenscliff next month. It is

open to all grades and a note with more information will be going out this week. Camps are a wonderful

chance for children to learn about our environment, engage in challenging activities, and develop

independence and social skills. It is not too late to enrol your child. Please let Calvin know if you would like

your child to attend.
