Introduction

The ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer SEL-5031software is an easy-to-use yet powerful tool that helps you get the most out of your SEL device.

• Create, test, and manage settings with a Windows® interface. • Visually design SELOGIC® control equations with a powerful Logic Editor. • Verify SELOGIC control equations and event reports with an integrated Logic

Simulator. • Manage, create, merge, copy, and read device settings with a settings database

manager. • Show only those settings needing to be set for a particular application, while

you maintain complete control over setting function and how each setting relates to other settings.

• Design settings with both Boolean and mathematical expressions to work exactly the way you want.

• Assign an easily recognizable alias name to any setting. • Design settings any way you want and have these settings perform such

functions as calculations and automatic determination of other settings. The ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 software produces Design Templates: customizable setting schemes with device settings grouped, named, and displayed according to the needs for a particular application. Use these Design Templates in ACSELERATOR® QuickSet SEL-5030.

If you choose No, do not merge settings with Design Template, a Read command will behave in a similar manner as for a read from the ACSELERATOR® QuickSet SEL-5030. If you choose Yes, merge settings with the selected Design Template, the progam will compare setting values saved in the Design Template to those settings actually in the device. If there are no differences between settings in the Design Template and device, you will see a message such as the following. Click OK to open the settings in the generated Design Template.

If an application setting value in the Design Template differs from an application setting value that the program reads from the device, you will see a message such as the following.

Page 16: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

If you select Yes from any of the previous three dialog boxes, the program will create a Design Template that merges the selected Design Template settings with settings the program reads from the device. Design Template settings will overwrite values from the device, and device settings will overwrite any settings that the Design Template does not use in Design Template equations. If you select No from any of the previous three dialog boxes, the program will discard any Design Template settings and use only setting values that the program reads from the device. If you click on the View button on any of the above dialog boxes, you will see a form similar to the following. This form displays all setting values that differ between the device and the Design Template.

If you are in the Design Template Preview, you will receive a message stating that there were no groups/classes selected to send from the Design Template. If Groups/Classes to Send Have Been Selected A dialog will appear showing which groups/classes the Design Template will send to the connected device. If you select Cancel, the program sends no settings. If you select OK, the program allows those settings groups/classes you selected to be sent to an attached device. This emulates the mechanics of the internal device copy command. Select Group 1, for example, to send device settings and logic settings for Group 1 to the device. Transfer of settings to the device is limited to data transmission rates of 19200 baud and slower. For successful settings transfer, ensure that auto-messages are turned off in the device port. After you click on the Open A or Open B button, the software will query whether you want to choose a settings database to open. To create an empty database, type in a name instead of choosing an existing second database. Press the OK button, and the program will create an empty database.

Follow the instructions on how to copy or move devices between databases to create new settings in the empty database.

From the File menu, select the File | Active Database menu option to select and activate the newly created settings database.

Exit… Select this option to exit the program. If you have any unsaved changes to files, the program will prompt you to save these files before closing.

Edit Menu Copy Use the copy option to copy one group to another group of settings. The program checks the source group for validity before copying a group. Both selected groups must be of the same type.

Merge Through use of the merge menu, you can merge the present settings of the device the settings editor opens with settings from a different device. Typical use of this operation would be during a device firmware upgrade. You can save existing device settings into the database and then merge these settings into a new device for which you have selected a part number matching that of the upgraded firmware. Use the Merge function and a device with related settings as a starting point or source for programming a similar device. For example, if you have an SEL-351 Relay with settings based upon a company standard for SEL-351 Relay applications, use the ACSELERATOR® QuickSet SEL-5030 software to read these settings into a device

settings database. Use merge to make the standard SEL-351 Relay settings the source data for a similar device (an SEL-351S Relay, for example). Customize any SEL-351S Relay settings from the merged SEL-351 Relay settings and then send the new settings to the SEL-351S Relay. Compare Use this selection when comparing present device settings with a saved setting scheme. You can use the compare function to select a saved setting in the active database and compare this setting to the present settings that are open. You will obtain a list of all settings for which values differ between the two files and a list of all settings in either setting scheme for which there are no matching settings in the other scheme. Search Select the Search menu item to open a dialog box similar to that below.

From this dialog box, select either or both search options and enter a setting, value, or both, as appropriate. Then click OK. This generates a search window that contains all locations for your search item. Double-clicking on any listed item takes you to the location of that item, as illustrated by the following figure. Note that in this example we have selected Global_NFREQ as our search item.

samples/cycles of unfiltered data. You can download either the whole event or partial event. View Menu The View Menu options are available from the Event Waveform analysis tool. This program launches after you have selected a *.cev file for view via the Open File or Read History option. Use the Rotation menu option to select ABC or ACB phase rotation for events. Event Waveform Options: Summary Data Form

The Summary Data Form displays general information about the event report. Event Report File This field displays the full path and file name of the event report file. Device FID This field displays the device FID (Firmware Identification) for the device that collected the event. Frequency The frequency displays in an editable field on the Summary form. You should verify the frequency because it is not always possible to extract from the device FID the frequency contained in an event report. In the case where the FID does not specify the frequency, the program uses the default frequency specified in the Options form. It is up to you to ensure that the frequency is correct, essential for correct calculation of the phasor and sequence elements. When the Summary form is closed, the program verifies that the frequency is between 30 and 90 Hz. Number of Cycles This field displays the number of cycles in the event report. Samples per Cycle This field displays the number of samples per cycle in the event report. This value is 4 for SEL-100 and SEL-200 series devices and can vary for SEL-300 and SEL-500 series devices. Event Date and Time This field displays the date and time of the event report. Miscellaneous This field displays such summary information taken from the event report as Event, Location, and Fault Current. Information displayed depends on the device type. Some devices will not include any data in this field. Print Button Press the print button to print the data displayed on the Summary form, plus the analog and digital channel names and descriptions.

Graph Form The graph form displays the oscillographic plot of the selected event report data.

Page 33: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

Main Menu

Copyright© 2006 Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. 29

Sizing the Form The form can be resized by pressing the maximize button or by dragging the application border with the left mouse button. Oscillographic Display Displays the selected analog and digital channels. If the Show Trigger on Graph option is enabled, and the event report includes a trigger mark, a dashed vertical line indicates this trigger in the report. Zoom Zoom in using the left mouse button. Zoom out by typing the Z key. Data Cursor Use the left mouse button or the arrow keys to move the Data Cursor. Digital Data Digital data are displayed with a thin line for logical zero and a thick line for logical one. Because the event reports can use one column for multiple elements, a label appears above the start of the thick line to indicate the asserted element. For example, a column for 51Q may have a period for logical zero, a p for pickup, and T for timed pickup. The digital display will have a thin line for the period and a thick line with a p above it for the pickup condition. If the column changes to T, then a label appears above the line at the assertion point. Note: When a digital element changes above a line that is already thick, the left side of the element label corresponds to where the element asserted. Zoom in for better resolution. F2 or Ctrl-T For event reports with a trigger flag, pressing F2 or Ctrl-T moves the cursor to the trigger point. F3 and F4 Markers Select a data point of interest, and then press F3 to mark a vertical line. Move the cursor to the next point of interest, and then press F4 to mark a second vertical line. The program will display the row/cycle/time difference between the two lines. This information is useful for determining the delta time between two data points. Grids Select the grid line style displayed on the graph. Choices include X only, Y only, X and Y, or None. Style Select the style of the data lines displayed on the graph. Note: For best performance during scrolling, use the line style. See also: Data Cursors Line - Draws straight lines between the data points. Line + Points - Displays the data points and draws straight lines between the points. Curve - Draws a best-fit curve between the data points.

Curve + Points - Displays the data points and draws a best-fit curve between the points. Pref Button Opens the Graph Preferences form. Print Button Prints the graph as displayed, including any zooming. See the Options form for printing options.

Graph Preferences Form Use this form to set up the graph display. Once you have set up the graph display you can save graph preferences to a preference file. Once you save preferences, the Graph Preferences form does not appear when you select View | Graph. Instead, the graph appears with the saved preferences. This also happens if you select View | Graph after already setting preferences, even if you have not saved these preferences to the preferences file. To view the Graph Preferences form again, after preferences have been set, select View | Graph | Preferences from the Main Form Menu or press the Pref button on the Graph form. Disabled Settings (supported in only a few device drivers at the present time)

ACSELERATOR® QuickSet™ and ACSELERATOR® QuickSet™ Designer generally handle disabled settings by graying out (but leaving visible) editing controls for these disabled settings. The forms containing these disabled settings also appear in the ACSELERATOR QuickSet and ACSELERATOR QuickSet Designer tree (table of content) views. Particularly for a large number of disabled settings, settings editor sessions can appear cluttered.

Through the use of View menu options, one has control over how much or how little ACSELERATOR QuickSet and ACSELERATOR QuickSet Designer display. Choose to show or hide disabled settings or to remove or restore individual setting classes from the tree view.

Hide Disabled Settings

Select this option to cause all disabled settings (those that the software ordinarily grays out) and setting classes with disabled settings to disappear from view.

Select Setting Classes

Choose with this menu option whether to view all setting classes (with Select All) or to remove setting classes from view (either with Deselect All or by selecting only certain classes of settings). A checked box to the left of a setting class causes that setting class to appear. Setting classes with unchecked boxes do not appear.

Note that, while Deselect All causes deselection of all boxes, one must then select at least one setting class to view. Choosing Deselect All and then clicking OK causes ACSELERATOR QuickSet or ACSELERATOR QuickSet Designer to display an error.

Set View State as Default

This setting causes the display selected in the Setting Class Selection dialog to appear by default upon loading the device driver from ACSELERATOR QuickSet or ACSELERATOR QuickSet Designer.

Switching to Design Template Editor ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer begins all new Design Templates in the Settings Editor. To switch to Design Template Editor, click on the Options menu, select View, Design Template, or hit Ctrl+D.

Adding Settings to Design Template From the Settings Editor, there are two methods for adding settings to your Design Template. The first method is to add settings to your Design Template by expanding the item you want from the tree view, selecting the category or group of categories you want according to how far you proceed into the tree view heirarchy, and right-clicking on the category to open a menu such as that shown in the following figure. Note: This method adds all settings in all groups below your selection in the tree view heirarchy to the Design Template and can take a significant amount of time for some settings groups.

Page 44: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

Copyright© 2006 Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. 40

The second method is to add settings individually by proceeding in the tree view as far as you can in a setting category and then clicking on that category to open settings. Right-click on the individual setting you want to add to your Design Template. See Add to Design Template and Add to Design Template as Constant.

Add to Design Template Add to Design Template creates an equation and assigns settings to default aliases. It also either creates a settings tab or adds a settings tab reference to your design to indicate the source of the setting. The following is an example in which we have chosen to add a current transformer ratio setting. Click on Add to Design Template or Add to Design Template as Constant to add the setting you selected to your design.

The result is as shown in the following figure. A change in color indicates that the Design Template has reserved the setting for control and that this setting is unavailable for further editing within the Settings Editor.

Design Template Editor The Design Template Editor looks similar to the following.

For examples on how to use the Design Template Editor, see How Do I...From this view, you can switch back to the Settings Editor or go to the Design Template Preview to see how the Design Template would appear to a technician using ACSELERATOR® QuickSet SEL-5030. The Design Template Editor has eight menus and five main sections: Equation ManagerDesign Template ManagerApplication Variable Selection ListEquation WindowTemplate Setting Interface

Equation Manager While in Design Template Editor, the Equation Manager allows you to add, rename, or delete equation groups within a Design Template. Furthermore, equations may be moved among groups. An equation group is simply a means by which Design Template equations may be organized. In the example below, "Uncategorized" and "Group 1" are equation groups.

Page 48: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

Copyright© 2006 Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. 44

Note the existence of the "Uncategorized" equation group. This group may be used to hold equations for which categorization does not apply, or categorization has yet to be determined. The "Uncategorized" equation group cannot be renamed or deleted. As an equation group is selected, the equations for that group display in the Equation Window. Add Equation Group An equation group may be added to a Design Template by right-clicking in the Equation Manager and selecting the "Add Item" menu option.

Next, type in the name of the new equation group. Notice that the new equation group is added to the end of the list of equation groups.

Rename Equation Group An equation group may be renamed in a Design Template by right-clicking on the Equation Manager, then by selecting the "Rename" menu option.

Page 49: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

Main Menu

Next, type in the new name for the equation group and press the ENTER key. This will complete the rename operation.

Delete Equation Group An equation group in a Design Template may be deleted by right-clicking on an equation group in the Equation Manager, then by selecting the "Delete" menu option.

Moving Equations Equations may be moved between equation groups individually by selecting and dragging each equation, or by selecting multiple equations and dragging a set of equations between equation groups. To move a set of equations, either hold down the CTRL key and left-click each equation to be moved, or select a range of equations by first selecting an equation, then hold down the SHIFT key and select another equation to specify a range as shown below.

Design Template Manager The Design Template Manager appears in both the Design Template Editor and the Design Template Preview. The ability to add, rename, delete, or move tab groups or application variables, however, is limited to the Design Template Editor.

Page 50: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

When the equation is as you want it, select Apply and then Close. Note that selecting Close without first selecting Apply deletes the equation.

Right-clicking from Settings Editor The easiest way to create an equation is to "send" the setting you'd like to create an equation for in the Settings Editor. Navigate to the setting and right-click. Select "Add to Design Template" from the pop-up menu. In the screen shot below, the CTR setting is being "sent" over to the Design Template Editor.

By changing the color of the box and preventing further editing, ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer indicates that the Design Template has reserved the setting for control.

Next, switch over to Design Template Editor View by using the View|Design Template Editor option, or pressing Ctrl-D. This changes the view to the following:

Note that ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer has created a Template Setting and assigned it to the CTR setting in Group 1. Note also that the setting tab name changed to reference the setting source, and that the assigned name is easily recognizable.

Edit Template Setting Properties For our examples here, we use the Right-clicking from Settings Editor technique discussed earlier. Click on the link to review. See Getting Started for information on how to open a device for use in ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer. For this example, we opened an SEL-651R 003 Relay from which to begin our Design Template. To edit application setting properties for individual settings, we provide examples in which we edit the 50P1P setting and in which we edit the minimum and maximum values (range) available for this setting. We right-click the 50P1P setting and select the Add to Design Template option from the pop-up menu. The 50P1P setting turns blue and is no longer editable.

Switch to Design Editor by pressing Ctrl-D. ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer created the 1_50P1P setting automatically.

Editing Individual Setting Properties Here we rename (or alias) the phase instantaneous overcurrent 50P1P setting in Group 1. See Editing Template Setting Properties to review how to access this setting. Double-clicking on the setting name brings up a dialog box from which you can change parameters for the Group 1_50P1P setting. You can also right-click and select Edit Properties to change parameters for this setting.

Change the name to "Instantaneous Phase Overcurrent".

Limiting a Range

For this design, we would like to limit the available range for the 50P1P (Phase Instantaneous Overcurrent) setting in Group 1. We right-click the 50P1P setting and select the Add to Design Template option from the pop-up menu. The 50P1P setting turns blue and is no longer editable.

Switch to Design Template Editor by pressing Ctrl-D. ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer created the Group 1_50P1P setting automatically.

Double-click on Group 1_50P1P to obtain a form similar to the following.

Page 72: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

From this form, you can change the available range by typing a new range in the Range box. A range separated by double periods (..) includes every value from the minimum to maximum value, inclusive. Brackets following such a range specify the step size of the increment between two values. A range separated by commas is an exclusive listing limited to only the specific values listed.

Identify Error/Warning States

See also Common Errors and Error Messages. Errors An application setting text field will turn yellow for entry of an application setting outside a custom range (see Limiting a Range) and red for entry of an application setting outside device ranges or if a custom range does not exist. Warnings If you attempt to enter an application setting into an application setting text field for which the associated device setting is hidden or disabled, the text field will display in gray. Note: If you are in Design Template Editor view and attempt entry of such a setting, your entered value will appear in the application setting text field, but the value will not take effect so long as the setting is hidden in the Design Template. Error and Warning Displays The following figure illustrates display of errors and warnings.

Group Settings

In this example, we use the Right-clicking from Settings Editor technique discussed earlier. Click on the link to review. See Getting Started for information on how to open a device for use in ACSELERATOR® QuickSet Designer. For this example, we opened a new SEL-351S 005 Relay from which to begin our Design Template. For this design, we would like to group together phase time-overcurrent settings with a phase time-overcurrent logic setting (in this case, a torque control). From Group 1, we used the Right-clicking from Settings Editor technique to move the following phase time-overcurrent settings into the Design Template: 51P1P 51P1C 51P1TD 51P1RS 51P1CT 51P1MR In a similar fashion, we also moved 51P1TC from SELogic_1 and entered Ctrl–D to move to Design Template Editor and obtain a view similar to that in the following window.

Page 75: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

Main Menu

Copyright© 2006 Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. 71

Note that two tabs appear at the top of the Template Setting Interface in the Design Template Editor. The six phase time-overcurrent settings are grouped together under a tab named Group_1 Phase Time-Overcurrent, while the 51P1TC setting is listed under a separate tab. To move the 51P1TC setting under the same tab as the six other settings, we select the SELogic1_Torque Control Equations tab to display the 51P1TC setting and then drag the SELogic_1_51P1TC panel (as shown below) to the Group_1 Phase Time-Overcurrent tab.

You can then delete the unused SELogic1_Torque Control Equations tab by right-clicking on the tab and selecting Delete Tab. The program will prompt whether you want to continue with the deletion. Select Yes to delete the tab, or select No to leave the tab unchanged.

Lock a Setting to a Specific Value You can lock a setting to a specific value by adding a setting to a Design Template as a constant (see Add to Design Template as Constant). This moves the setting to the Design Template and prevents further editing.

Produce a SELOGIC Macro You can produce a SELOGIC® Macro by assigning values to application values and then using those variables in a SELOGIC control equation. As shown in the following

Page 76: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

figure, we have defined the macro X as M1P+Z1G+M2PT and macro Y as 51QT+OC. Then, by combining the two macros, we can place these macros into another equation and substitute the values of these macros to form a more complex logic equation.

Control Access to Settings Editor

By default, the ACSELERATOR QuickSet Designer prevents you from seeing the Settings Editor from the SEL-5030. To make this view accessible, we build upon the Grouping Settings example. From Design Template Editor, select Tools to obtain the following menu.

Select Design Template Options and Allow switching to Settings Editor from Design Template to enable this option. You should see a check mark to the left of the Allow switching to Settings Editor from Design Template option.

Incorrect number of parentheses. There is a mismatch in the number of opening and closing parentheses.

Cannot have nested parentheses with non-word SELOGIC® control equation.

There can be no nested parentheses with older SELOGIC control equation settings. Products that use older style SELOGIC control equation settings include the SEL-2100, SEL-311 family, and SEL-351 family.

Incomplete Equation: Missing Operands.

An operator is by itself (as in "+").

Incomplete Equation: Missing Operand to the right of <Operator missing operand>

An operator is missing a right-side value (as in "4 +").

Incomplete Equation: Missing Operand to the left of <Operator missing operand>

An operator is missing a left-side value (as in " + 4").

Math functions can only be followed by opening parentheses "(".

A math function is used without parentheses (as in "ABS + 4").

Logic operators cannot be used with non-logic left-hand settings.

A logic operator is used with numeric or mixed setting type on the left (as in "[1^50P1P] = [RB^EN] AND [RB^25A1]").

Non-logic operators cannot be used with logic left-hand settings.

A non-logic operator is used with logic setting type on the left (as in "[L1^OUT1] = 5 + 4").

The freeform logic operator ":=" cannot be used with non-freeform logic settings.

A freeform logic := is used with non-freeform setting (as in "[1^50P1P] = [RB^MV01] := 1").

A comment operator "#" is not allowed at the beginning of the right-side equation.

A comment operator is used at the beginning of a right-side equation.

A comment is not allowed with left settings which are not boolean or freeform SELOGIC.

A comment is used with a setting that does not allow comments.

<First Operator> cannot be followed by <Second Operator>

An operator cannot follow another operator (as in the case of + and /).

Template Setting Editing Errors These error messages can appear during editing of an application setting.

Relay warning: "<Group> <Setting>" setting is disabled/hidden, setting cannot be set.

This warning displays if a setting is disabled or hidden.

Relay Error: Setting value must be greater than or equal to <Low value or min length> and lower than or equal to <High value or max length>. "<Group> <Setting name>" setting will not get set.

This error displays if the value being assigned to a relay setting is outside of the allowed range for that relay. The displayed error is according to the type of setting.

Relay Error: <Invalid element of string> is not valid for this setting value. "<Group> <Setting name>" setting will not get set.

This error displays for an invalid setting.

Relay Error: "<Group>: <Setting name>" is not defined, setting will not get set.

A variable assigned to that setting is "^NOT DEFINED," either having just been added from the Application Variable Selection list or not currently added to a tabsheet.

Relay Error: "<Group>: <Setting name>", equation has a circular reference.

A variable assigned to that setting is "^CIRCULAR" because there is a circular reference formed by either the application settings or the relay settings used directly or indirectly in the right side of that equation.

Template Setting: <var name> Setting value is outside of the custom range, value will not get set

This error displays when the value of an application setting is outside the corresponding custom range for that setting.

Template Setting: "<Name of var>" Relay <error|warning>: "<Left val Group>: <Left val Setting Name>" <matching error to above>

If an error or warning displays for one or more application settings associated with the left-hand setting, then additional errors/warnings will display for each such error or warning for which an associated

Page 80: AcSELerator QuickSet Designer SEL-5031 Instruction Manual

application setting is visible in the current mode. Left-side settings association can be direct (as in <Left Value> = <Var 1>) or indirect (as in <Left> = <Var 1>; <Var 1> = <Var 2> + <Var 3>), in which case all are associated (Var 1, 2, and 3) and all have errors. An application setting is hidden and, thus, will have no associated error/warning if it is found in the Application Variable Selection list, is found as the left-side value of an equation in the equations list, or has a hidden property and is in Setting Form mode, in which case the panel will not display.

Range Editing Errors These errors can occur during editing of a range from the Set Properties form. The form will not close until a valid range is entered or the Cancel button is clicked. The form will expand to show an error text field that contains the range string, and any invalid subrange items in the range string will be determined. Any blank subrange will have a <VALUE NEEDED> tag placed after or before the invalid comma. All invalid subranges, including value needed tags, will be highlighted in red. Examples: 1..25..5, 10, 20.. would highlight as 1..25..5, 10, 20.. ..1, OFF, would highlight as ..1, OFF, <VALUE NEEDED> Errors During Renaming These error messages can appear during a rename from the Manage Application Variables form.
