As assets held by governments and the private sector are exceptionally valuable, (particularly capital assets). Therefore assuming their custody and stewardship is of great importance. Equally important is the need to provide for their maintenance and timely replacement. Today the collaboration between public and private sectors in the form of joint acquisition, management and maintenance of these assets means that great attention ought to be paid to issues of management of these assets to be able to serve the needs and interests of these different stakeholders. Information about the stock, assets transferred under property law and other arrangements, the cost of use, the need for replacement is therefore vital for decision making and to protect public assets from misuse and encroachment. As such the entire accounting and internal control framework revolves around the management of assets. This three days workshop is aimed at addressing issues relating to Public Assets Ageing Maintenance, Disposal of Assets, Asset Registering, Asset Accounting/Reporting, and Government Leases.

The Employment Equity legislation has brought about several changes to the labour and employment landscape of south Africa. The law reform commission has also transformed the legislation although taking serious consideration with the spirit of the constitution. It is important to note that the implementation of the Employment equity legislation cannot be effective without taking into consideration other legislations that affect the labour and employment landscape. These include but is not limited to the Skills Development Act, the Black Economic Empowerment Act as amended and the B-BBEE codes of good practice. The EE legislation has also evolved over time. From the EE Act 55 of 1998 to the Amendments of 2013, there has been changes to denitions, turnover thresholds, a higher target of audits by regulatory authorities. These changes brings to bear the strong implication in terms of higher risk to the business for non-compliance. However, without paying attention to the intricacies of the changes the relevant persons within organizations who are to develop the implementation framework and thus ensure compliance to the legislation would nd challenges. This course examines the Employment Equity Act and all its ramications for organizations. The workshop ensures that Employment Equity Committees understand their role and function. The course looks at the legal reporting requirements of organizations as per afrmative action reports and pays attention to compliance spectrum which committee members must take into consideration when the manage the employment relations matters in their different organizations taking into consideration the environment where they operate. Governance describes the way countries, communities and institutions manage their affairs politically and the way they exercise power and authority. Governance remains an essential area that attracts support globally. South Africa is facing enormous challenges in developing waste management strategies. The amount of waste is increasing as more people are leaving poverty, and the sustainability of disposing waste at land elds is both economically and environmentally questioned. This has resulted in a search for alternative treatment of solid waste. The aim of this workshop is to provide delegates with up-to-date knowledge regarding technological, organizational, legislative policy developments and practices to handling municipal wastes in South Africa and other parts of the developed world. Lessons are drawn from other developing countries and from the best practices promulgated at international conventions of which South Africa is a signatory.
