Mary Ann’Williams Story 10/4/1935 – 3/21/2020
On October 4, 1935, a beautiful baby girl was born to Elijah “Sun” Simmons, Sr. and Rosie Green Simmons,
who they named Mary Ann Simmons. She was affectionately called “Doll Baby” and “Aunt Dot” by her family and
friends.
Mary Ann attended Jerusalem Schools in Brazoria, Texas, and was a 1955 graduate of George Washington
Carver High School in Sweeny, Texas. She played starting guard on the George Washington Carver High School
Basketball Team. They won a State Championship.
At an early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior joined and was baptized at the Jerusalem
Baptist Church, where she was Sunday School Secretary for many years. She later moved to Galveston and joined
First Union Baptist Church, Galveston, under the leadership of Pastor J. I. Jackson, Sr. and then Pastor James A.
Wrenn, where she served as Vice-President of the Usher Board. She moved to Galveston in 1960 and begin working
for UTMB Hospitals and retired in 1995 after 35 years in the Medicine Clinic Nursing Department. She was a member
of Eastern Star Galveston Oleander Chapter #278. After her retirement, she returned to her home church which she
loved so dearly, Jerusalem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor E. S. Fields. She served as President of the
Adult Usher Board. She was proud of her role and took her duties very seriously. She became Matron for the Jr.
Ushers, and a mentor to the younger ushers to ensure that the duties were carried out in an orderly and proper
manner. She was also a Youth Sunday School Teacher, Youth Vacation Bible School Teacher, and a member of the
JBC Prayer Warriors. She was a faithful member of JBC under the leadership of Pastor Darrell James, Sr. and was
dedicated in attendance until her health failed.
Her favorite pasttimes were playing dominoes, cards, going to the casino, fishing, watching her stories,
spending time with her family, especially her daughter and grandchildren, and having birthday parties. She was a
devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt. She instilled in her family the importance of loving one another and
maintaining a close family bond.
On March 21, 2020, at the age of 84 years, 5 months, and 17 days, she made her transition from this earth.
Awaiting her in heaven is her parents, Elijah and Rosie Simmons; brothers, Elijah “Dune” Simmons, Jr., Richard
“Sonny Boy” Simmons, David “Hunk” Simmons, Shedred “Maine” Simmons, Sr., Phillip Simmons, Sr., and Roman
Simmons; sisters, Mariah Grice, Endia Williams, and Eva Mae Holmes; and grandparents, Ed and Mariah Bonner
Simmons.
She leaves to cherish her fond and great memories, her precious daughter, Marian Lynn Smith (Richard) of
Angleton, TX; grandsons, Damonric Smith and Cedric Smith of Angleton, TX; Senior Master Sgt. Isharay Jones (Taisha)
of Crestview, Florida, and Lance Thompson (Shell) of Clute, TX; granddaughter, Ekira Jones of Angleton, TX; six great-

relatives and friends.
Farewell My Friends, When I come to the end of the day and the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long, And not with your head bowed low.
Remember the love we once shared, Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take, And each must go alone.
It’s all part of the Master’s plan, A step on the road to HOME.
When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know, and
bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me, but let me go, Doll Baby

"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
II Timothy 4:6-7 A Legacy of Love My mother, a Grandma too,
This is the legacy I have from you.
You taught me LOVE and how to fight,
You gave me strength, you gave me might.
A stronger person wouldn’t be hard to find,
And in your heart, you were always kind.
You fought for me all in one way or another
Not just as a mother
For all of us you gave your best,
Now the time has come to get your rest.
So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep
Your love in my heart, I will eternally keep.
Your loving daughter, Lynn
I love you Mom.

A Much Loved Grandma The day that God called your name
It broke our hearts in two.
But Heaven needed an Angel
And the one he picked was you.
We just wish he could have waited
And let you stay with us
But you have left memories In our hearts
And that’s where they’ll always be.
We just wish we could rewind the clock
Or make it turn real slow
We could have hugged you one more time
Before you had to go.
No matter how much time will pass
We’ll miss you everyday
Keep shining bright in Heaven
So you can light our way.
Love your grandchildren,
Ekira, Isharay, Anthony, Jay, Nyleen,
Nycalyn, Aryani & LaNyia
A Mother-In- Law Like You I just want to let you know that you mean the world to me
Only a heart as dear as yours, would give so unselfishly.
The many things you’ve done,
All the times that you were there
help me know deep inside, how much you really care.
Even though I might not say, I appreciate all you do,
Richly blessed is how I feel
having a mother in law like you.
Your son-in-law, Richard
Missing Our Grandma A limb has fallen from our family tree.
We keep hearing our Grandma’s voice that says,
“Grieve not for me.
Remember the best times, the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived while I was strong.
Continue my heritage, I’m counting on you.
Keep smiling and surely the sun will shine through.
My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest.
Remembering all, how I truly was blessed.
Continue traditions, no matter how small.
Go on with your life, don’t worry about falls.
I miss you all dearly, so keep up your chin.
Until the day comes we’re together again.”
We love and miss you Grandma,
See you later, Love you always, Damonric & Cedric
