Preface

This Industrial Training Report is prepared after completion of 24 weeks of Industrial

training at Colombo Dockyard PLC.

Completion of 24 weeks Industrial Training is compulsory for the award of the

Higher National Diploma in Engineering (HNDE) from the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced

Technological Education (SLIATE) with Advanced Technological Institute (ATI), Colombo

15 and it is conducted after the completion of two years of theoretical sessions as four

semesters in the Higher National Diploma in Engineering course.

Industrial Training program was carried out by the National Apprentice and Industrial

Training Authority (NAITA) in collaboration with the Advanced Technological Institute

(ATI), Colombo 15 and the Training Division of Colombo Dockyard PLC.

This report contained with my experiences and knowledge I gathered during my

training period from 28/01/2013 to 28/07/2013.

Chapter 1 is included with introduction of my training place and Chapter 2 is included

with my experiences which are learned during my training and finally Chapter 3 is conclusion

which gives a summary about the training.

Acknowledgement

I grant my gratitude to all who helped me to get a proper training. I should thank to

National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA), Sri Lanka Institute of

Advanced Technological Education (SLIATE), Advanced Technological Institute (ATI)

Colombo 15 and Training Division of Colombo Dockyard PLC for conducting an Industrial

Training Program with this success.

Then I would like to thank Mr. Mangala P. B. Yapa, who is the Managing Director

and Chief Executive Officer of Colombo Dockyard PLC, for giving us such a valuable

opportunity to have training in such a place. And also thanks should go to the Engineer (Head

of Section) Mr. K.K.M.H.W.S.P. Silva and Engineer (Training and Development) Mr. A. S.

Abeyagunasekara and other staff members of training centre and all the Engineers, Foramens,

Supervisors and employees of the Colombo Dockyard PLC for paying attention and

extending co-operation towards me during the period of my training program.

Furthermore, I should thank to Mrs. P.H.A Ariyarathna, Directress of ATI Colombo-

15, and Ms A.K. Liyanage, Head of Department of Mechanical Engineering and all the

lecturers and other members of the Department of Mechanical Engineering and other

lecturers for restructuring the training program for this worth, collaborating with the SLIATE

and NAITA after the syllabus revise.

Finally I would like to thank for all who supported me to complete this training

experience successfully.
