We will be formally farewelling Rosemary at the morning assembly on Monday 17 No- vember. This will allow students to be part of the farewell, and of course any parents who would like to attend! A quick and highly dubious calculation would suggest that Rosemary was responsible for making well over 50,000 lunches in the time she was working in the canteen school! That commitment is definitely worth celebrating! FREE DENTAL SERVICE Later in the newsletter you will find a flyer for Dental Health Services Victoria service in Ringwood. If you are in receipt of the Family Tax Benefit A or similar government payments any 2-17 year old child is eligible for free dental treatment. You can access the service at the Ringwood office (call 9259 4900). We are also in the pro- cess of organising the DHSV Dental Van to visit the school early in 2015. LONG WEEKEND The Melbourne Cup weekend is always a good mid-term break, especially when Christmas is rushing towards us. Next week will see us half way through the term! There are of course many things happening before the end of the year. Fun, but tiring for all! ANOTHER REMINDER - SEMESTER 2 REPORTS ONLINE!! As part of our transition to the COMPASS online system, we will be using a new reporting system this semester. This report will be available online and NOT printed off for each family. The process will allow families to print or share the reports with other family members. Similarly to the move to online newsletters the online reports is a sustainable practice in place in many schools (most of those families with secondary students will be familiar with such a system). As well as the environmental benefits, reduction in paper and printing costs, there will be many hours of work saved for our office staff and teachers. The reports will follow a similar, but hopefully im- proved format to previous reports.

Principal ROSEMARY FALZON FAREWELL Our long standing, and now recently retired, canteen manager Rosemary Falzon is back in the country and rev-elling in her retirement. We will be formally farewelling Rosemary at the morning assembly on Monday 17 No-vember. This will allow students to be part of the farewell, and of course any parents who would like to attend! A quick and highly dubious calculation would suggest that Rosemary was responsible for making well over 50,000 lunches in the time she was working in the canteen school! That commitment is definitely worth celebrating!

You can access the service at the Ringwood office (call 9259 4900). We are also in the pro-cess of organising the DHSV Dental Van to visit the school early in 2015.

Assistant Principal Parenting Students Transitioning from Year 6 Attached in the newsletter are details of a transition seminar for parents of year 6 students. Have a look and see if this might interest you. Curriculum Day On Monday staff spent the morning working on building our School Strategic Plan. We had some very meaning-ful discussions around how to improve student learning outcomes and we look forward to putting these together in our plan. Reporting Week Next week is reporting week. Classes will have their specialists on one day and staff in that area will work on their reporting. The schedule is as follows: Monday – Middle School Tuesday – Foundation Wednesday – Senior School Thursday – Junior School Friday – Specialists Mia Next week Mia will be attending camp with Croydon Hills PS. Our sharing arrangement is fantastic because it means Mia can attend all camps for both schools. We hope she has a great time at Coonawarra and we look forward to seeing her the following week. Brady Brady is a very special individual. In spite of facing his own challenges he shows great empathy for others. Brady donated his birthday presents to the Royal Children’s Hospital. He noticed on one of his treatment visits that the board games were a bit scarce for patients. Brady has organised ‘Brady’s Great RCH Board Game Challenge’. He plans to collect as many new board games as he can in the next few weeks and donate them to the hospital. He will be speaking at next week’s assembly and encourages any family who would like to donate a new (due to health regulations) board game to drop it off at the office.

Parentline

Parenting is not always easy. From time to time, all families can benefit from extra support.

Parentline is a Department service which began in 1998. It provides information, support, and referral services to parents from 8am to midnight seven days a week.

Whether you’re struggling with everyday tasks, or simply wish to discuss parenting ideas, Parentline is a valuable source of counselling and assistance.

3

The qualified and experienced social workers and psychologists who staff the service answer approximately 13,000 calls per year from parents from all backgrounds looking for support and advice. They will work with you to better understand your relationships and personal situations to help you to develop strategies which are tailored to your individual needs. Parenting is challenging, but Parentline can help you to develop positive coping strategies, allowing you more freedom to enjoy your time with your children.

You can ring Parentline on 13 22 89.

Congratulations Rhys. Senior school students competed in the District T20 Blast last Friday and our 7 teams really did have a blast, conduct-ed themselves brilliantly and learnt more about team sports and cricket. Our top boy team finished second overall.
