What is ACICISThe Australian Consortium for lsquoIn-Countryrsquo Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) was
established with government funding in 1994 to provide a unique support
network for students wishing to study in Indonesia Consisting of 27 member
universities located in Australia the UK and the Netherlands ACICIS coordinates
various semester-long six-week short course and educational study tour options
in Indonesia Since its inception ACICIS has helped over 2000 students from
Australia and abroad attend universities in Indonesia and complete professional
internship modules Current study options include professional practicum
courses in Business Law Creative Arts amp Design Journalism and Development
Studies (Jakarta) intensive Indonesian language study development studies
business and law and teacher training (Yogyakarta) agriculture (Bogor) and an
independent field study and International relations program (Bandung) Courses
are assessed by our Indonesian partner universities and accepted by member
universities for credit towards home university degrees in Australia and abroad
ACICIS ASP 2018 PROGRAM PROFILE 32 THE AUSTRALIAN CONSORTIUM FOR lsquoIN-COUNTRYrsquo INDONESIAN STUDIES
What is the Agriculture Semester ProgramThe Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) allows students to enrol in a suite of subjects offered within the
international undergraduate program at Bogor Agricultural University including subjects in agribusiness
agronomy and horticulture plant protection forestry food science and technology and animal production
technology
With classes taught in English from an Indonesian perspective students undertaking the ASP will be well-
placed to become leaders in international agricultural development equipped with a solid understanding of
the food security and resource management challenges facing Indonesia and the Indo-Pacific region
As part of the ASP students also undertake a supervised professional placement at an Indonesian host
Organisation to complement their academic studies Host Organisations include international research
organisations such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) international non-government organisations
such as the World Agroforestry Centre and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as well as
Indonesian and international agribusiness companies
Bogor Agricultural UniversityInstitut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) or Bogor Agricultural University was established on 1 September 1963
birthed from a vision to be a world-class university in the fields of agriculture and bioscience It was
established with the aim to strengthen food security bioenergy job creation poverty alleviation and
environmental protection in the region and beyond IPB is the only state-run university in Indonesia focusing
on tropical agriculture and life sciences and is internationally renowned in its field It has long standing
partnerships with overseas universities and institutions and its international partnerships involve student and
academic staff exchange research collaborations joint publication and dual degree programs
ASP StructureThe ASP runs in two intakes each year from August to February and from February to August The structure
of the semester-long program is as follows
A semester of academic classes and coursework (approximately 504 hours in total) at Bogor
Agricultural University Classes can be scheduled anytime between 0700 to 1800 Monday-Friday and
0700 to 1200 on Saturdays
Concurrent with
One to one-and-a-half days per week professional placement ndash provided the placement host
organisation is located in Bogor or surrounds (approximately 160 hours)
OR
A semester of academic classes and coursework (approximately 504 hours in total) at Bogor
Agricultural University Classes can be scheduled anytime between 0700 to 1800 Monday-Friday and
0700 to 1200 on Saturdays
Followed by
A four-week lsquoblockrsquo professional placement at a Host Organisation outside of Bogor (approximately 160
hours)

In the past three rounds of the Australian Governmentrsquos New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program
ACICIS was successful in securing a total of $611000 to support up to 97 Australian undergraduate students
from ACICIS-member universities to undertake the Agriculture Semester Program between 2018 to 2020
Eligible students will receive a $6000 Commonwealth NCP mobility grant to support their participation in
ACICISrsquo Agriculture Semester Program Interested parties should contact the ACICIS Secretariat or individual
university International Offices for more information on NCP mobility grant availability and eligibility
ACICIS ASP 2018 PROGRAM PROFILE 54 THE AUSTRALIAN CONSORTIUM FOR lsquoIN-COUNTRYrsquo INDONESIAN STUDIES
What does the ASP Offer placement Host OrganisationsVia a careful selection process ACICIS aims to provide professional placement Host Organisations with
competent interns with an academic background in and prior experience of the agriculture sector
ASP participants bring with them a good understanding of agricultural theory and a diverse range of
professional and or voluntary experiences
The majority of participants are native English speakers andor are enrolled in English language degree
programs at their home universities Placement tasks are at the discretion of each Host Organisation to suit
an organisationrsquos needs and student capabilities however other ACICIS professional placements have seen
students assigned to tasks such as
Reviewing and compiling project monitoring reports for evaluation
Assisting in the design and editing of web material and other reporting documents
Editing and maintaining an organisationrsquos visual and or digital archives
Research assistance and data collection
Assisting in the preparation of funding applications and or grant proposals
Field visits to one or more of the Host Organisationrsquos partners and
Assisting with media and communication strategy
PlacementsASP professional placements are designed to encompass a wide range of interests within Indonesiarsquos
agriculture sector Students are assigned an English-speaking mentor in the workplace to guide them
through their placement This role of mentoring has been designed to take up no more than half an hour
per day of a designated staff memberrsquos time ACICIS is presently identifying and selecting willing Host
Organisations for the 2016 ASP industry placements from the following sectors

AssessmentThe Agriculture Semester Program allows students to complement academic studies with a professional
placement The ASP is designed to meet the equivalency requirements of a full-time semester load (05
EFTSL) at ACICIS member universities and includes the following assessable components

2 ASP Professional Placement 30 Host Organisation mentors and ACICIS staff will
monitor and supervise student progress and
performance
3 Final Presentation 10 A brief (20 minute) presentation contextualising a
studentrsquos Professional Placement experience within
the Indonesian agriculture sector
Upon completion of the program the ACICIS Resident Director provides a studentrsquos home university with a
one‐-page student outcome evaluation report detailing a studentrsquos academic performance on the program
Student performance will be assessed only as lsquoSatisfactoryrsquo or lsquoUnsatisfactoryrsquo (equivalent to lsquoungraded
passfailrsquo)
To complete this program satisfactorily students must demonstrate the ability to perform tasks in their
professional placement to a satisfactory standard and also to reflect on the experience and relate it back
to their academic studies Students must attend a minimum of 80 of scheduled classes at IPB (100 of
laboratoriespracticums) as well as achieve a lsquopassrsquo grade minimum in all subjects undertaken
A studentrsquos home university may retain the right to set and grade other assessment tasks related to the
program While ACICIS makes a recommendation about the appropriate level of academic credit a student
should be awarded for their participation in the program it is up to individual home universities to determine
their own protocols and rules for awarding academic credit to students who undertake and successfully
complete the program
ASP Management and Pastoral CareACICIS manages all aspects of the ASP from the point of participant arrival until their departure ACICIS
provides a full-time Program Coordinator located in Bogor to oversee all aspects of the ASP program
including the supervision of its academic content ACICIS provides all participants with a comprehensive
pre-departure and in‐country orientation program routine and emergency assistance for the duration of the
program and supervision during their classes and coursework at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB)
Over the course of the professional placement ACICIS staff will meet regularly with Host Organisations to
assess the progress of participants and to help resolve any issues that may arise
IPB provides visa sponsorship for all ASP participants on a 12-month Temporary Stay Permit visa (KITAS) The
professional placement is conducted as part of a formal academic program hosted by the university and as
such students are strictly prohibited from undertaking any paid work during their professional placement
All participants must hold comprehensive medical insurance covering emergency evacuation and adhere
to ACICISrsquo Risk Management Plan for Bogor At all times they also remain bound by all internal regulations
and risk management strategies of their Host Organisations
Travel as part of a professional placement is permissible so long as it meets the requirements of ACICISrsquo
Risk Management Plan and is approved by the ACICIS Resident Director well in advance (a minimum of two
weeks prior to travel) Participants or hosts are encouraged to inform the ASP Program Coordinator of any
proposed travel plans as early as possible
The ASP has been designed in such a way that ACICIS and IPB fulfil all administrative and pastoral care
duties thus freeing Host Organisations of such tasks
ACICIS ASP 2018 PROGRAM PROFILE 98 THE AUSTRALIAN CONSORTIUM FOR lsquoIN-COUNTRYrsquo INDONESIAN STUDIES
ASP Professional Placement ProtocolsThe success of the ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) requires the cooperation of ACICIS all
student participants and the organisations which host them during their placement The smooth operation
of the program is enhanced when these three lsquostakeholdersrsquo agree to the following protocols
1 ACICIS agrees to Facilitate a three day in-country orientation at the beginning of the program
Assist students to find appropriate accommodation
Assist students to enrol in classes at an Indonesian partner university
Arrange appropriate work experienceprofessional placement for the participant in a relevant work
environment where English is a medium of communication
Have staff members present in Indonesia to assist participants throughout the program with pastoral
matters
Provide appropriate advice and support to the host organisation regarding the requirements of the
professional placement for the duration of the program
Provide the home university or employer with an evaluation report on each participant with a
recommended pass fail grade for the placement
Provide participants with full contact details of the their embassy in Jakarta such as may be required
for security purposes and to inform appropriate embassy officials of the arrangements for ACICIS
programs
Assist participants in obtaining the appropriate visa for the program
Provide public liability insurance cover for all students
2 The student participant agrees to Participate fully in university lectures labs and workshops
Participate fully in the working life of the host organisation under the supervision of a mentor to
an extent appropriate to be participantrsquos level of experience and skill as stated in their application
materials
Behave in accordance with the highest professional standards and in a culturally and contextually
appropriate manner
3 The Host Organisation agrees to Accept a specified number of ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program participants for workplace experience
either in a four-week block at the end of their semester or on a one to one-and-a-half day(s) per week basis
for the duration of their semester and to
Provide each participant with
A lsquomentorrsquo who will supervise and advise the participant
On-going advice regarding a studentrsquos duties in that work environment
A conducive work environment and facilities for the participant (desk work space access to
equipment)
Involve the participant in all the normal activities of the work environment as appropriate to the
participantrsquos level of experience and skill
Provide ACICIS with a brief written assessment report by the mentor on the participant by the end of
the placement (1-2 paragraphs)
Provide ACICIS with feedback on the program and any suggestions for future improvements
Provide a copy of the organisationrsquos logo and a brief (1-2 paragraph) company profile for inclusion on
ACICISrsquo website
Additional InformationThe ASP is open to both Australian and non-Australian citizens students There are no Indonesian
language pre-requisites for the program Unless an applicant indicates they have strong Indonesian
language skills and would like an Indonesian language placement work placements will be in English-
language environments
Professional placement schedules are to follow the regular working hours for the participating Host
Organisation
Host Organisations may accept more than one intern
The professional placement program is for a maximum of four weeks full-time (160 hours) Should Host
Organisations wish to extend the placement period beyond this time ACICIS is no longer responsible
for the studentrsquos pastoral care academic or visa management
Host Organisations are not liable for any expenses throughout the placement Any travel expenses
related to placement activities should be discussed with participants well in advance Should
participants be unable to afford additional work-related travel expenses an alternative set of duties
should be provided
Host Organisations have the right to terminate the placement position should candidate performance
be unsatisfactory and
Students enter Indonesia on a KITAS study visa and as such are strictly prohibited from carrying out
any paid work during their time in-country or receiving any form of financial compensation for their
duties performed while on the ACICIS program
Sponsorship PackagesACICIS welcomes proposals from Australian and Indonesian businesses interested in supporting the
continued development of the ASP through a range of sponsorship packages Packaging arrangements
may include one-off or ongoing financial contributions to ACICIS Indonesiarsquos ASP program in-kind support
for the ASP through the provision of speakers networking events andor venue support or scholarships
and or grants provided directly to ASP students In turn ACICIS will acknowledge such support
through the inclusion of your business logo on the ACICIS website and other online and print materials

ACICIS StaffConsortium DirectorThe Consortium Director is responsible for the overall management of ACICIS chairing the National
Reference Group which determines ACICIS policy The Consortium Director and Founder of ACICIS
is Professor David T Hill AM Prof Hill is in the Asian Studies Program at Murdoch University in Perth
where he is a Fellow of the Asia Research Centre for Social Political and Economic Change His research
interests are in Indonesian media literature biography and cultural politics and he is a NAATI-accredited
professional English-Indonesian interpreter and translator While based in Perth Prof Hill is a frequent visitor
to Indonesia
Resident DirectorACICISrsquo Resident Director oversees the provision of academic and pastoral advice to students liaises with
Indonesian authorities and universities and ensures that ACICISrsquo 13 in-country programs run smoothly
The current Resident Director is Dr Adrian Budiman Dr Budiman joined ACICIS in early 2016 as the Deputy
Resident Director Dr Budiman holds a PhD in Media Arts and Studies from Ohio University in 2008 an MA
in International Affairs from the same institution in 2003 and an undergraduate degree in Management from
Universitas Gadjah Mada Dr Budiman oversees the DSIP coordinates the academic program and provides
pastoral care and support to students

Upon completion of the program the ACICIS Resident Director provides a studentrsquos home university with a
one‐-page student outcome evaluation report detailing a studentrsquos academic performance on the program
Student performance will be assessed only as lsquoSatisfactoryrsquo or lsquoUnsatisfactoryrsquo (equivalent to lsquoungraded
passfailrsquo)
To complete this program satisfactorily students must demonstrate the ability to perform tasks in their
professional placement to a satisfactory standard and also to reflect on the experience and relate it back
to their academic studies Students must attend a minimum of 80 of scheduled classes at IPB (100 of
laboratoriespracticums) as well as achieve a lsquopassrsquo grade minimum in all subjects undertaken
A studentrsquos home university may retain the right to set and grade other assessment tasks related to the
program While ACICIS makes a recommendation about the appropriate level of academic credit a student
should be awarded for their participation in the program it is up to individual home universities to determine
their own protocols and rules for awarding academic credit to students who undertake and successfully
complete the program
ASP Management and Pastoral CareACICIS manages all aspects of the ASP from the point of participant arrival until their departure ACICIS
provides a full-time Program Coordinator located in Bogor to oversee all aspects of the ASP program
including the supervision of its academic content ACICIS provides all participants with a comprehensive
pre-departure and in‐country orientation program routine and emergency assistance for the duration of the
program and supervision during their classes and coursework at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB)
Over the course of the professional placement ACICIS staff will meet regularly with Host Organisations to
assess the progress of participants and to help resolve any issues that may arise
IPB provides visa sponsorship for all ASP participants on a 12-month Temporary Stay Permit visa (KITAS) The
professional placement is conducted as part of a formal academic program hosted by the university and as
such students are strictly prohibited from undertaking any paid work during their professional placement
All participants must hold comprehensive medical insurance covering emergency evacuation and adhere
to ACICISrsquo Risk Management Plan for Bogor At all times they also remain bound by all internal regulations
and risk management strategies of their Host Organisations
Travel as part of a professional placement is permissible so long as it meets the requirements of ACICISrsquo
Risk Management Plan and is approved by the ACICIS Resident Director well in advance (a minimum of two
weeks prior to travel) Participants or hosts are encouraged to inform the ASP Program Coordinator of any
proposed travel plans as early as possible

ASP Professional Placement ProtocolsThe success of the ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) requires the cooperation of ACICIS all
student participants and the organisations which host them during their placement The smooth operation
of the program is enhanced when these three lsquostakeholdersrsquo agree to the following protocols
1 ACICIS agrees to Facilitate a three day in-country orientation at the beginning of the program
Assist students to find appropriate accommodation
Assist students to enrol in classes at an Indonesian partner university
Arrange appropriate work experienceprofessional placement for the participant in a relevant work
environment where English is a medium of communication
Have staff members present in Indonesia to assist participants throughout the program with pastoral

Provide appropriate advice and support to the host organisation regarding the requirements of the
professional placement for the duration of the program
Provide the home university or employer with an evaluation report on each participant with a
recommended pass fail grade for the placement
Provide participants with full contact details of the their embassy in Jakarta such as may be required
for security purposes and to inform appropriate embassy officials of the arrangements for ACICIS
programs
Assist participants in obtaining the appropriate visa for the program
Provide public liability insurance cover for all students
2 The student participant agrees to Participate fully in university lectures labs and workshops
Participate fully in the working life of the host organisation under the supervision of a mentor to
an extent appropriate to be participantrsquos level of experience and skill as stated in their application
materials
Behave in accordance with the highest professional standards and in a culturally and contextually
appropriate manner
3 The Host Organisation agrees to Accept a specified number of ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program participants for workplace experience
either in a four-week block at the end of their semester or on a one to one-and-a-half day(s) per week basis
for the duration of their semester and to
Provide each participant with
A lsquomentorrsquo who will supervise and advise the participant
On-going advice regarding a studentrsquos duties in that work environment
A conducive work environment and facilities for the participant (desk work space access to
equipment)
Involve the participant in all the normal activities of the work environment as appropriate to the
participantrsquos level of experience and skill
Provide ACICIS with a brief written assessment report by the mentor on the participant by the end of
the placement (1-2 paragraphs)
Provide ACICIS with feedback on the program and any suggestions for future improvements
Provide a copy of the organisationrsquos logo and a brief (1-2 paragraph) company profile for inclusion on
ACICISrsquo website
Additional InformationThe ASP is open to both Australian and non-Australian citizens students There are no Indonesian
language pre-requisites for the program Unless an applicant indicates they have strong Indonesian
language skills and would like an Indonesian language placement work placements will be in English-
language environments
Professional placement schedules are to follow the regular working hours for the participating Host

Host Organisations may accept more than one intern

What is the Agriculture Semester ProgramThe Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) allows students to enrol in a suite of subjects offered within the
international undergraduate program at Bogor Agricultural University including subjects in agribusiness
agronomy and horticulture plant protection forestry food science and technology and animal production
technology
With classes taught in English from an Indonesian perspective students undertaking the ASP will be well-
placed to become leaders in international agricultural development equipped with a solid understanding of
the food security and resource management challenges facing Indonesia and the Indo-Pacific region
As part of the ASP students also undertake a supervised professional placement at an Indonesian host
Organisation to complement their academic studies Host Organisations include international research
organisations such as the World Resources Institute (WRI) international non-government organisations
such as the World Agroforestry Centre and the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) as well as
Indonesian and international agribusiness companies

In the past three rounds of the Australian Governmentrsquos New Colombo Plan (NCP) Mobility Program
ACICIS was successful in securing a total of $611000 to support up to 97 Australian undergraduate students
from ACICIS-member universities to undertake the Agriculture Semester Program between 2018 to 2020
Eligible students will receive a $6000 Commonwealth NCP mobility grant to support their participation in

What does the ASP Offer placement Host OrganisationsVia a careful selection process ACICIS aims to provide professional placement Host Organisations with
competent interns with an academic background in and prior experience of the agriculture sector
ASP participants bring with them a good understanding of agricultural theory and a diverse range of
professional and or voluntary experiences
The majority of participants are native English speakers andor are enrolled in English language degree
programs at their home universities Placement tasks are at the discretion of each Host Organisation to suit
an organisationrsquos needs and student capabilities however other ACICIS professional placements have seen
students assigned to tasks such as
Reviewing and compiling project monitoring reports for evaluation
Assisting in the design and editing of web material and other reporting documents
Editing and maintaining an organisationrsquos visual and or digital archives

What does the ASP Offer placement Host OrganisationsVia a careful selection process ACICIS aims to provide professional placement Host Organisations with
competent interns with an academic background in and prior experience of the agriculture sector
ASP participants bring with them a good understanding of agricultural theory and a diverse range of
professional and or voluntary experiences
The majority of participants are native English speakers andor are enrolled in English language degree
programs at their home universities Placement tasks are at the discretion of each Host Organisation to suit
an organisationrsquos needs and student capabilities however other ACICIS professional placements have seen
students assigned to tasks such as
Reviewing and compiling project monitoring reports for evaluation
Assisting in the design and editing of web material and other reporting documents
Editing and maintaining an organisationrsquos visual and or digital archives
Research assistance and data collection
Assisting in the preparation of funding applications and or grant proposals
Field visits to one or more of the Host Organisationrsquos partners and
Assisting with media and communication strategy
PlacementsASP professional placements are designed to encompass a wide range of interests within Indonesiarsquos
agriculture sector Students are assigned an English-speaking mentor in the workplace to guide them
through their placement This role of mentoring has been designed to take up no more than half an hour
per day of a designated staff memberrsquos time ACICIS is presently identifying and selecting willing Host

AssessmentThe Agriculture Semester Program allows students to complement academic studies with a professional
placement The ASP is designed to meet the equivalency requirements of a full-time semester load (05
EFTSL) at ACICIS member universities and includes the following assessable components

Upon completion of the program the ACICIS Resident Director provides a studentrsquos home university with a
one‐-page student outcome evaluation report detailing a studentrsquos academic performance on the program
Student performance will be assessed only as lsquoSatisfactoryrsquo or lsquoUnsatisfactoryrsquo (equivalent to lsquoungraded
passfailrsquo)
To complete this program satisfactorily students must demonstrate the ability to perform tasks in their
professional placement to a satisfactory standard and also to reflect on the experience and relate it back
to their academic studies Students must attend a minimum of 80 of scheduled classes at IPB (100 of
laboratoriespracticums) as well as achieve a lsquopassrsquo grade minimum in all subjects undertaken
A studentrsquos home university may retain the right to set and grade other assessment tasks related to the
program While ACICIS makes a recommendation about the appropriate level of academic credit a student
should be awarded for their participation in the program it is up to individual home universities to determine
their own protocols and rules for awarding academic credit to students who undertake and successfully
complete the program
ASP Management and Pastoral CareACICIS manages all aspects of the ASP from the point of participant arrival until their departure ACICIS
provides a full-time Program Coordinator located in Bogor to oversee all aspects of the ASP program
including the supervision of its academic content ACICIS provides all participants with a comprehensive
pre-departure and in‐country orientation program routine and emergency assistance for the duration of the
program and supervision during their classes and coursework at Bogor Agricultural University (IPB)
Over the course of the professional placement ACICIS staff will meet regularly with Host Organisations to
assess the progress of participants and to help resolve any issues that may arise
IPB provides visa sponsorship for all ASP participants on a 12-month Temporary Stay Permit visa (KITAS) The
professional placement is conducted as part of a formal academic program hosted by the university and as
such students are strictly prohibited from undertaking any paid work during their professional placement
All participants must hold comprehensive medical insurance covering emergency evacuation and adhere
to ACICISrsquo Risk Management Plan for Bogor At all times they also remain bound by all internal regulations
and risk management strategies of their Host Organisations
Travel as part of a professional placement is permissible so long as it meets the requirements of ACICISrsquo
Risk Management Plan and is approved by the ACICIS Resident Director well in advance (a minimum of two
weeks prior to travel) Participants or hosts are encouraged to inform the ASP Program Coordinator of any
proposed travel plans as early as possible
The ASP has been designed in such a way that ACICIS and IPB fulfil all administrative and pastoral care
duties thus freeing Host Organisations of such tasks

ASP Professional Placement ProtocolsThe success of the ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) requires the cooperation of ACICIS all
student participants and the organisations which host them during their placement The smooth operation
of the program is enhanced when these three lsquostakeholdersrsquo agree to the following protocols
1 ACICIS agrees to Facilitate a three day in-country orientation at the beginning of the program
Assist students to find appropriate accommodation
Assist students to enrol in classes at an Indonesian partner university
Arrange appropriate work experienceprofessional placement for the participant in a relevant work
environment where English is a medium of communication
Have staff members present in Indonesia to assist participants throughout the program with pastoral
matters
Provide appropriate advice and support to the host organisation regarding the requirements of the
professional placement for the duration of the program
Provide the home university or employer with an evaluation report on each participant with a
recommended pass fail grade for the placement
Provide participants with full contact details of the their embassy in Jakarta such as may be required
for security purposes and to inform appropriate embassy officials of the arrangements for ACICIS
programs
Assist participants in obtaining the appropriate visa for the program
Provide public liability insurance cover for all students
2 The student participant agrees to Participate fully in university lectures labs and workshops
Participate fully in the working life of the host organisation under the supervision of a mentor to
an extent appropriate to be participantrsquos level of experience and skill as stated in their application
materials
Behave in accordance with the highest professional standards and in a culturally and contextually
appropriate manner
3 The Host Organisation agrees to Accept a specified number of ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program participants for workplace experience
either in a four-week block at the end of their semester or on a one to one-and-a-half day(s) per week basis
for the duration of their semester and to
Provide each participant with
A lsquomentorrsquo who will supervise and advise the participant
On-going advice regarding a studentrsquos duties in that work environment
A conducive work environment and facilities for the participant (desk work space access to

Provide ACICIS with a brief written assessment report by the mentor on the participant by the end of

Additional InformationThe ASP is open to both Australian and non-Australian citizens students There are no Indonesian
language pre-requisites for the program Unless an applicant indicates they have strong Indonesian
language skills and would like an Indonesian language placement work placements will be in English-
language environments
Professional placement schedules are to follow the regular working hours for the participating Host
Organisation
Host Organisations may accept more than one intern
The professional placement program is for a maximum of four weeks full-time (160 hours) Should Host
Organisations wish to extend the placement period beyond this time ACICIS is no longer responsible
for the studentrsquos pastoral care academic or visa management
Host Organisations are not liable for any expenses throughout the placement Any travel expenses
related to placement activities should be discussed with participants well in advance Should

is Professor David T Hill AM Prof Hill is in the Asian Studies Program at Murdoch University in Perth
where he is a Fellow of the Asia Research Centre for Social Political and Economic Change His research
interests are in Indonesian media literature biography and cultural politics and he is a NAATI-accredited
professional English-Indonesian interpreter and translator While based in Perth Prof Hill is a frequent visitor
to Indonesia
Resident DirectorACICISrsquo Resident Director oversees the provision of academic and pastoral advice to students liaises with
Indonesian authorities and universities and ensures that ACICISrsquo 13 in-country programs run smoothly
The current Resident Director is Dr Adrian Budiman Dr Budiman joined ACICIS in early 2016 as the Deputy
Resident Director Dr Budiman holds a PhD in Media Arts and Studies from Ohio University in 2008 an MA

ACICIS ASP 2018 PROGRAM PROFILE 98 THE AUSTRALIAN CONSORTIUM FOR lsquoIN-COUNTRYrsquo INDONESIAN STUDIES
ASP Professional Placement ProtocolsThe success of the ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program (ASP) requires the cooperation of ACICIS all
student participants and the organisations which host them during their placement The smooth operation
of the program is enhanced when these three lsquostakeholdersrsquo agree to the following protocols
1 ACICIS agrees to Facilitate a three day in-country orientation at the beginning of the program
Assist students to find appropriate accommodation
Assist students to enrol in classes at an Indonesian partner university
Arrange appropriate work experienceprofessional placement for the participant in a relevant work
environment where English is a medium of communication
Have staff members present in Indonesia to assist participants throughout the program with pastoral
matters
Provide appropriate advice and support to the host organisation regarding the requirements of the
professional placement for the duration of the program
Provide the home university or employer with an evaluation report on each participant with a
recommended pass fail grade for the placement
Provide participants with full contact details of the their embassy in Jakarta such as may be required
for security purposes and to inform appropriate embassy officials of the arrangements for ACICIS
programs
Assist participants in obtaining the appropriate visa for the program
Provide public liability insurance cover for all students
2 The student participant agrees to Participate fully in university lectures labs and workshops
Participate fully in the working life of the host organisation under the supervision of a mentor to
an extent appropriate to be participantrsquos level of experience and skill as stated in their application
materials
Behave in accordance with the highest professional standards and in a culturally and contextually
appropriate manner
3 The Host Organisation agrees to Accept a specified number of ACICIS Agriculture Semester Program participants for workplace experience
either in a four-week block at the end of their semester or on a one to one-and-a-half day(s) per week basis
for the duration of their semester and to
Provide each participant with
A lsquomentorrsquo who will supervise and advise the participant
On-going advice regarding a studentrsquos duties in that work environment
A conducive work environment and facilities for the participant (desk work space access to
equipment)
Involve the participant in all the normal activities of the work environment as appropriate to the
participantrsquos level of experience and skill
Provide ACICIS with a brief written assessment report by the mentor on the participant by the end of
the placement (1-2 paragraphs)
Provide ACICIS with feedback on the program and any suggestions for future improvements
Provide a copy of the organisationrsquos logo and a brief (1-2 paragraph) company profile for inclusion on
ACICISrsquo website
Additional InformationThe ASP is open to both Australian and non-Australian citizens students There are no Indonesian
language pre-requisites for the program Unless an applicant indicates they have strong Indonesian
language skills and would like an Indonesian language placement work placements will be in English-
language environments
Professional placement schedules are to follow the regular working hours for the participating Host
Organisation
Host Organisations may accept more than one intern
The professional placement program is for a maximum of four weeks full-time (160 hours) Should Host
Organisations wish to extend the placement period beyond this time ACICIS is no longer responsible
for the studentrsquos pastoral care academic or visa management
Host Organisations are not liable for any expenses throughout the placement Any travel expenses
related to placement activities should be discussed with participants well in advance Should
participants be unable to afford additional work-related travel expenses an alternative set of duties
should be provided
Host Organisations have the right to terminate the placement position should candidate performance
be unsatisfactory and
Students enter Indonesia on a KITAS study visa and as such are strictly prohibited from carrying out
any paid work during their time in-country or receiving any form of financial compensation for their
duties performed while on the ACICIS program
Sponsorship PackagesACICIS welcomes proposals from Australian and Indonesian businesses interested in supporting the
continued development of the ASP through a range of sponsorship packages Packaging arrangements
may include one-off or ongoing financial contributions to ACICIS Indonesiarsquos ASP program in-kind support
for the ASP through the provision of speakers networking events andor venue support or scholarships
and or grants provided directly to ASP students In turn ACICIS will acknowledge such support
through the inclusion of your business logo on the ACICIS website and other online and print materials
acknowledgement of your support throughout our ASP program documents and where appropriate the

is Professor David T Hill AM Prof Hill is in the Asian Studies Program at Murdoch University in Perth
where he is a Fellow of the Asia Research Centre for Social Political and Economic Change His research
interests are in Indonesian media literature biography and cultural politics and he is a NAATI-accredited
professional English-Indonesian interpreter and translator While based in Perth Prof Hill is a frequent visitor
to Indonesia
Resident DirectorACICISrsquo Resident Director oversees the provision of academic and pastoral advice to students liaises with
Indonesian authorities and universities and ensures that ACICISrsquo 13 in-country programs run smoothly
The current Resident Director is Dr Adrian Budiman Dr Budiman joined ACICIS in early 2016 as the Deputy
Resident Director Dr Budiman holds a PhD in Media Arts and Studies from Ohio University in 2008 an MA
in International Affairs from the same institution in 2003 and an undergraduate degree in Management from
Universitas Gadjah Mada Dr Budiman oversees the DSIP coordinates the academic program and provides
pastoral care and support to students
ACICIS Bogor StaffACICIS staff located in Bogor are responsible for managing the design and implementation of the ASP
program and liaising with Host Organisations university staff and students Throughout the program ACICIS
staff advises students on academic and industry-specific matters offer pastoral care and emergency
