ENGLISH FOR UNIVERSITY SUCCESSThe English for University Success course provides you - high school or undergraduate students - with the skills to enhance your Academic English Language proficiency, which will then enable you to get ahead in your studies and ultimately achieve academic excellence. The course develops reading and writing ability in a variety of academic registers as well as listening and speaking skills. It also develops academic language in addition to study and research skills, such as attending lectures, note-taking, writing extended essays, reading academic texts, giving presentations and participating in group discussions.

ENGLISH FOR POSTGRADUATE STUDYThe English for Postgraduate Study course assists you - Bachelor or Honours students - to prepare for academic success in your postgraduate studies. The course develops a range of study skills including research skills, in order to gather, combine and critically examine information and ideas from different sources. You will also understand and use theories and conventions of written academic literacy and be able to use rhetorical and logical strategies to express ideas effectively in writing. You will develop your own voice and be able to position yourself in texts which will enhance your dissertations.

ENGLISH FOR THE MBAOur English for the MBA programme blends real-work experience with academic excellence, thereby equipping you with the latest skills, knowledge and insights so you can progress in your studies and career. The course will help you build the English language skills that are essential to being successful in your MBA programme. You will improve your speaking and listening by discussing business cases, developing oral presentations and listening to management lectures. You will learn to take notes, identify critical material and explain your points in clear and accurate written and spoken English. Working from materials such as case studies, textbooks, and articles from business publications, you will read about the business concepts, current issues, and vocabulary of the corporate world. You will also develop the communication skills you need to succeed in your MBA program; effective presentation skills, and a variety of discussion techniques and more. This course is run on demand.

STEP 3: PAY YOUR FEES

You can pay your fees by EFT, credit card or debit card.If you pay by EFT, email your proof of payment to wls@wits.ac.za.

If you are going to be sponsored, you need to bring a signed letter on the company’s or organisation’s letterhead stating who is

responsible for the payment of course fees.

STEP 4: WRITE THE PRE-ASSESSMENT

Come in to WITS Language School during office hours Monday to Friday between 08:00 and 16:00. Bring the following documents with you:

CERTIFIED COPY OF YOUR ID/PASSPORT (IF YOU HAVE NOT EMAILED IT). PROOF OF PAYMENT (IF YOU HAVE NOT EMAILED IT).

CERTIFIED COPIES OF YOUR QUALIFICATION/S.(It takes 1.5 hours to complete the pre-assessment.)

STEP 5: NOTIFICATION OF PRE-ASSESSMENT RESULTYou will be notified of the outcome by email, within 3 days of writing the pre-assessment.
