OB JECT IVE : To introduce the student to topography and understand how to interpret and modify grades, both two and three dimensionally. This is an introductory exercise to learn about topography and the use of scales.
TASK : Using the attached topography plan, redesign the site to provide a level area (no contour lines) for the designated house. The house can “sit” anywhere on the site. Refer to the diagrams below.
. House area: 20' by 30' (rectangular) shape. Build the house with walls approx. 10' high, with any kind of sloped roof.
. New contours have to “meet” (start and end) where the existing contours are located along the edges of the attached plan (property). Draw on the attached plan your new contour lines. Make a copy of this to use as a template for your model. Turn in your proposed plan and model.
. Contours cannot be closer than 4 feet and can curve in any manner to create the desired flat area.
. Cut scrap corrugated cardboard or foamcore with a sharp utility knife or X-acto blade. Build only the new contours per your plan.
. Glue the layers together (with white glue), making a three dimensional topography plan
. Neatness counts! Try to be neat with your cuts and glue.
DUE : Monday August 31, 2009 (All at beginning of class)
REQUIREMENTS : Model to be 1/8"=1'-0" scale
