The workshop aims to disseminate basic facts and principles (knowledge, skills and attitude) that are essential for the humane use and care of animals recruited in biomedical research.
l CPCSEA guidelines for small/large animal facility.l OECD Guidelines for toxicity studies. l 3R's and alternatives to animal experimentations in biomedical research.l Management and handling techniques of laboratory animals.l Dosing procedures, anesthesia, analgesia and euthanasia in experimental animals
Department is offering courses for both undergraduate (B.V.Sc . & A.H) and postgraduate (MVSc) students. The Department i s wel l equipped with experimental pharmacology equipments and facility to carry out research in the area of Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacokinet ics, Ethnopharmacology, Neuropharmacology and Toxicology.
The Department had also conducted many workshops on laboratory animals and ethical issues previously.
Institutional Animal Ethics Committeee of Veterinary College, Shivamogga had registered under CPCSEA and having Small and Large animal facilities for Research, Breeding in-house, Research for commercial purpose and Breeding for the purpose of trade.
The faculty is engaged in various research works. The department has two ongoing externally funded research projects funded by RKVY, Govt. of Karnataka 1. Validation of ethnoveterinary practices in management of common ailments of livestock (Amount 68 lakhs) 2. Induction of lactation in unproductive animals (Amount 85 lakhs)
