training programmes to satisfy both local and regional airport requirements.

Its innovative programmes in Aviation Traffic Management Services, Aviation Security Services, and Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services, are tailored for the region, and address the rapidly changing aviation industry.

These are the initial programmes, Airport Management, Aviation Telecommuications, Airport Engineering and Aviation Commercial Business will be offered in the future.

The Academy’s training programmes conform to ICAO standards as well as those of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Fiji Islands.

Much of the training takes place at the Academy premises located on the AFL compound with eight fully equipped classrooms capable of accommodating 30 students.

But because of the Academy’s location, near Nadi International Airport (owned by AFL), students have the added advantage of on site training at airport operational centres.

ACCOMMODATION

Students must make arrangements for their own ac-

commodation. The Academy does operate accommo-

dation for ten students but no meals are provided.

In addition the Grand Melanesian Hotel near the

Academy is offering a package of breakfast, dinner,

and accommodation.

AvIATION TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT SERvICES

The Academy offers an Air Traffic Management programme to graduate qualified air traffic controllers. This programme integrates both classroom instruction and on-site training at the airport including working with the state-of-the-art Aurora Air Traffic Management System, in both the control tower and in its Flight Information Centre. as well as its virtual simulator.

AvIATION SECuRITy SERvICES

Security is paramount at AFL and students who are part of the Aviation Security programme would have the opportunity to work with security forces at the airport, as well as receive classroom instruction, learning with the latest technology in security control. As graduates they would qualify as Security Officers to contribute towards safety and security at any airport.

AIRPORT RESCuE & FIREFIGHTING SERvICES

Firefighting trainees will receive classroom and onsite training to qualify them as airport firefighters. Trainees will work closely with the AFL Airport Firefighting Service and participate in ICAO sanctioned firefighting activities. Firefighting safety gear will be provided as part of the course.
