THE PAST YEAR HAS BEEN EXTREMELY DIFFICULTfor non-profits and educational institutionsthat depend on endowment earnings to meetannual budget needs. The ACC Foundationhas also been faced with challenging marketdeclines. The Foundations board membersinvested many hours making adjustments toensure we managed through a very difficulteconomic downturn. The difficult econo-my also created record enrollment forACC as many new students now look tothe College to learn a new trade or skill, and for a new beginning. Our Boardaccepted the challenge of finding newgiving opportunities so that we couldclose the gap to fund necessary finan-cial aid for hundreds more students.Due to these efforts our Board, staff, faculty, and community leaders, wewill support many deserving and qualifiedstudents again this year. I am thankful to each individualand business for continued support of the ACC Foundation.
Our ongoing mission is clear. No deserving and qualified stu-dent will be turned away from ACC because of documentedfinancial need. A more positive economy will return over time, and we will provide even more support in thefuture. ACC students are an important part ofthe future development of Alamance Countyand the surrounding area. New business andindustry will continue to select our area forexpansion and relocation. There are greatopportunities for our students in local com-merce, trade, management, health care and ahost of other fields. ACC students also canmove on successfully to four-year universitiesafter achieving their associate degrees locally.
We should all be thankful that we have such a fine institutionin our community that can open these doors for our students.

At the end of 2009, I am honored to turn over Board responsibilities to Dr. AaronNoble, the incoming Foundation president. He is an ACC graduate and the 2001ACC Distinguished Alumnus winner. Aaron will do a great job as president andwill continue the mission of our Foundation. I want to thank the Foundation staff, the Foundation Board members, Dr. Nadelman and the employees of ACC fortheir support of the ACC Foundation. I would especially like to thank the gener-ous community donors that have supported us for so many years. Without yourinvestment of time and financial resources, we could not accomplish our goals.
It has been an honor to have served as your Board president. I look forward to con-tinued service and involvement with both the College and Foundation. Thank youfor making a difference everyday in the life of an ACC student.
Jerry BaileyCommunity Market President, WachoviaBoard President, ACC Foundation, 20082009
The ACC MissionAlamance Community College promotes an open door to
high quality education and learning. Central to this missionis the belief in the unique worth, value and dignity of eachhuman being. Accordingly, Alamance Community Collegestrives to help people realize their potential and attain an
education that is personally meaningful, relevant tothe needs of the community and state, and
responsive to significant global trends.
DIFFICULT ECONOMIC TIMES REQUIRE IMAGINA-TION to solve many problems. The ACCFoundation, even in difficult times, hasworked wonders to help meet the needs ofour record enrollment of students.
It has been able to provide educationalopportunities to hundreds of students thispast year, because you, the public, havemade the Foundation a priority in yourgiving plans. Reaching the $2 millionmilestone in the capital campaign thispast year happened because so manyFoundation Board Members took it uponthemselves to proclaim our worthy story tothose philanthropically-capable individ-uals and businesses in the community. And, those individuals and businessesresponded in a very positive manner.
We have a great story to tell-this, in our 50th year of oper-ation. For the second year in the past three, the NC Community College
System has recognized Alamance Community College as an "exceptional" scits mastery of the performance measures by which we are gauged. We were oto receive this distinction out of the 58 schools. It is always nice to receaccolades for what we do, but what we do and how we do it is not for recobut for the student. It is helping that student achieve his/her goal that giveenergy to perform at our highest levels.
The Foundation can take great pride in helping set the atmosphere whereby feel capable of achieving. For those who gave of their time and their dollare eternally grateful for your belief that what we do does indeed make a difference for our quality of life in the region. Your support helps ACC prworkforce for which we all take pride in presenting to business and inThank you very much.

8/8/2019 Accf Annual Report
18/18
Dear ACC Donors and Friends,
IN THE PAST YEAR, UNEMPLOYMENT IN OUR COUNTYhas nearly doubled from 6 to 12%. In Fall2007 the Dow was over 14,000rememberthat? Since then it has fallen by more than50% and recovered-some. And true to itscountercyclical nature, demand for education
and training at ACC is way up amongAlamance County residents. Fall 2009 cur-riculum enrollment is over 5,500, an 18%increase over the prior year.
The ACC Foundation provides low-income, academically strong studentswith scholarships, work study jobs andother aid. The ACC Foundation has cutcosts, but still, worthy students are indanger of being turned away. If we can
get ACC students, many of whom havebeen laid off, retrained for new careers, they can get new
jobs and support themselves and their families. Their economic activitywill restore demand and help all area businesses recover faster. A rising tide lifts
all boats.
In the coming year, the ACC Foundation Board has voted to use up to $100,000in reserve funds to ensure that all students, qualified to attend, are able to affordbooks and tuition at ACC. This is the basic purpose of the ACC Foundation andwhy I titled this years report, Back to Basics.
I thank you for being part of the Alamance Community College family andamong its supporters.
