There's no place like home – the only place where we can truly be ourselves. Our interiors reflect our personality: every object has its own story and is an expression of our individual identity. At Vitra, we believe in the principle of collage – the idea that a vibrant living space is not achieved by conforming to a unified plan, but rather gains character through a mix of old and new, classic and contemporary, favourite mementos and found objects.
The Vitra Accessories Collection embodies this vision, ranging from timeless creations by Charles and Ray Eames, Alexander Girard or George Nelson to the newest products by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Hella Jongerius or Michel Charlot.

‘When you practise in all fields of design, each field benefits from your experience in the others.
And all design is related, whether houses, gardens, furniture or women’s clothes.’ Alexander Girard
Alexander Girard (1907–1993) was one of the most influential textile artists and interior designers of the twentieth century. He created worlds of colourful opulence in which everything
was precisely and artfully coordinated, from the smallest details to the big picture.
The Spring/Summer 2018 collection by the Swiss fashion house Akris is a tribute to Girard’s multifaceted oeuvre,
with a particular spotlight on the Wooden Dolls.
The catalyst for this collaboration was a visit by Albert Kriemler, Akris’s creative director, to the exhibition entitled
‘Alexander Girard: A Designer’s Universe’ at the Vitra Design Museum. The collection was presented in Paris on
1 October 2017 and will be available in stores as of January 2018.

Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
The brothers Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec live and work in Paris. Their oeuvre ranges from small everyday objects to architectural projects. They have worked with Vitra since 2000 and have contributed numerous designs to both the
offi ce and home collections.
Nuage
Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec
The shape of the Nuage vase made its fi rst appearance in the oeuvre of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec in 2002.
Reminiscent of a cloud, the motif was originally produced as a large polystyrene shelf module that could be organically
grouped into clusters. In conjunction with the presentation of their book Drawings in 2015, the designers issued a limited edition of ceramic vases – also based on the cloud motif,
but positioned upright in varying heights.
A short time later, the Bouroullecs joined up with Vitra to develop the Nuage vases. The original series
in coloured, anodised aluminium has been recently joined by Nuage céramique, a new addition made of ceramic.
While the aluminium vases present a compelling contrast of organic shapes and mechanical precision, the ceramic versions are elaborately handcrafted, resulting in scarcely discernible diff erences that make each charming vase a unique object.

Alexander Girard
Since the earliest days of his youth, the designer Alexander Girard was accustomed to taking a writing instrument along wherever he went. He always carried one in the inner pocket of his tweed jacket, ready to jot
down a quick note or sketch out an idea.
Together with Girard Studio and Vitra, Caran d’Ache introduces the 849 Alexander Girard ballpoint Collection.
Applying graphic patterns by Alexander Girard to the refi ned 849 silhouette, Caran d’Ache has created a
timeless classic writing instrument.
Designer
Alexander Girard
The architect and designer Alexander Girard was one of the leading fi gures in American design during the postwar era. His passion for colours, patterns and textures found expression in the fi eld of textile design, which was a focal
part of his oeuvre.
