Accessing and Using LearningExpress Library

Why Use LearningExpress Library?

View more than 50 multimedia computer training tutorials for the most popular office applications; take

interactive, comprehensive courses in math, reading, and writing; choose from over 300 timed and untimed

practice tests to assess your skills; and use an interactive guide to each of the steps of the job search process,

including step-by-step creation of personalized cover letters and résumés.

Accessing LearningExpress Library

1. Go to the library web site at http://hickeycollegelibrary.wordpress.com/

2. Click on the Online Resources tab at the top of the page and then on the LearningExpress Library link

a. On the next page, click on the Search LearningExpress Library Remotely and On Campus link to

access the database.

3. If you are on campus, you will be taken directly to the LearningExpress Library home page.

4. Off campus? You must be registered (see below) and have created a username and password to log in.

Registering for LearningExpress Library

The first time that you use LearningExpress Library, you will need to register in order to access

resources and track your courses, tests, and scores. (Only you will see your scores. No one else has

access to them.)

To register, find New Users and then click on Register.

Once you register, you will be logged into LearningExpress Library. When you come to the site again,

you may click on Login in the upper right corner of any page at the site.

Navigating LearningExpress Library

After you have registered and logged in, browse through the Learning Centers in the column on the

left-hand side of the page.

We recommend that you focus on the College Students, Popular Software Tutorials, Computer &

Internet Basics, Workplace Skills Improvement, Occupation Practice Tests, and Skill Building for Adults

Learning Centers and on the Job & Career Accelerator.

Your username and password must be at least six characters, no spaces.

Click on More Info for each Learning Center to browse through the contents and view a list of practice

tests, e-books or courses.

Using LearningExpress Library

Example: Need help with fractions? Click on the College Students bar and then on the arrow next to

Math and Reasoning Skills Improvement to find out what courses or tests might be available to

practice and improve fractions skills.

Using fractions is a basic math skill, so click on the + (plus) sign to the left of Math Skills Success

Courses to bring up a listing of courses.

The first course listed is Math Skills Course 1: Fractions.

Click on the course title to find a short

explanation of the course and how long it

would take to complete the entire course.

Math Skills Success Course 1: Fractions is

one of seven courses in that series and will

take approximately 3 – 3 ½ hours to

complete…stop and start again at any time.

You will need to add a course to My Center in order to take all or part of it and easily access it again at

another time.

o Take a course as many times as you wish…Just add another copy of the same test to My Center

to take it again.

1. Click on the Add to My Center

link on the right side of the

course description.

2. Click on Start This Course

Now! on the right side of the

next screen.

(If you choose to take a practice test, you will be given a choice to click Start This Test Now!)

3. Read through the instructions

and click on the Start Course

button.

4. Go through the course at your own

pace, reading through the lessons and

answering the interactive exercise

questions.

If you take a test, it will be scored for

you. Some tests are timed, others are not.

Job & Career Accelerator

Are you searching for a job? Or, are you just getting started on figuring

out which career might be right for you? The Job & Career Accelerator

can help you do all of that and more.

You can find information on over 1,000 different occupations, access

skills tests, search over 5 million job postings, create professional

résumés and cover letters, and get tips and advice.

Plus, it keeps your job search information organized in one place!

The Accelerator Dashboard on the right side of the page helps you keep track of the entire process. From the Dashboard, you can quickly get to all of your saved items, including résumés, cover letters, occupations that interest you, and recommended tests and courses. A well-organized, Flash-based tutorial covering every section of the site can be accessed from the View Tutorial link. Once you are in the tutorial, use the pull-out menu on the left side of the screen to easily access instructions on specific procedures and actions at the web site.

Enter key information into your Personal Profile, which will be used in your résumés, cover letters, and job search.

The Featured Tools section in the middle of the screen allows for easy access to the most popular portions of the Accelerator.
