Getting from the airport to the mountain Once you arrive at the airport, if you’re renting a wheelchair accessible van, you’ll need to take the airport shuttle from the terminal to the nearby car rental facility. The airport shuttle is wheelchair accessible.

There is no public transportation from the airport to the mountain. Visitors will need to either rent an accessible vehicle or hire an accessible charter transport. Please keep in mind that the Mount Rainier region is a rural wilderness area, and as of yet there are no accessible Uber, Lyft, or Taxi systems in the area. If visitors are planning on having a charter drop them off it is recommended that they stay at one of the lodges in the park.

Eastside For Hire is a taxi company with a fleet stationed at the Sea-Tac International Airport. They have wheelchair accessible vans available on demand. Expect to pay a $232 one-way fare from the airport to Longmire at Mount Rainier National Park. Prices may change without notice. (425) 453-9000

Drive time from the airport to the Nisqually entrance of Mount Rainier National Park (located in Ashford,

WA—the only entrance open year-round) is typically

2-hours (85 miles).

Wheelers Accessible Vansrentawheelchairvan-seattle.business.site | (800) 456-1371

Wheelers Accessible Vans will deliver to the airport with a 3-day minimum rental. Typically, the rates are $541.40 with delivery fee, pick-up and the three-day rental. They have 2 Dodge Caravans, based on availability, advance reservations required, minimum age to rent is 23. Renters must have a valid driver’s license. If the license is from overseas, you will need to sign a waiver and pay an extra fee of $40 a day, as well as a $500 refundable deposit. US citizens must have full-coverage insurance or purchase a waiver which acts like full-coverage insurance. Wheelers accepts credit or debit cards. Reserve online or over the phone.

Wheelers will deliver vans to the parking garage connected to the airport. A text message will be sent to the renter with the exact location of where to find the van. The keys are in the van and the van is locked. Upon arrival you’ll place a phone call to Wheelers when you are ready to enter the van and someone will unlock the van remotely and enable it to be operated.

Upon departure, when it’s time to fly home, you’ll park the vehicle back at the airport. Be sure to call the company and let them know it’s back at the airport. Then, simply leave the keys in the van, lock the vehicle, and go.

Transactions are done electronically. Renters have to scan or take a photo of their driver’s license and send it via text or email. Normal business hours are 7:00 AM–7:00 PM. The after-hours fee is $50.00.

Vans do not have traction devices like chains for winter travel. Mount Rainier National Park requires all vehicles to have chains between November 1st and May 1st.

Why Visit? People travel from around the globe to experience the majesty of Mount Rainier. A trip to the national park is a bucket-list trip for many to see pristine wilderness, famous wildflower meadows, glaciers and waterfalls.

Best Time of Year to Visit? Every season is Rainier season, but there’s something special about summer. It’s the most popular time of year, with favorable weather and wildflowers drawing large crowds

of people to the national park. A tip for navigating through the masses is to plan on arriving early in the mornings before 9:00 AM or late in the afternoon to beat the crowds.

Autumn is also a wonderful season at the park. The crowds are lighter, plus the roads and trails are typically snow-free in the early part of fall. The fall colors are also a spectacular treat!

Service Animal PolicyPets are not allowed inside buildings, or on trails. Service dogs are allowed on trails and in park facilities but only if the dog has been trained to do work or perform tasks for the benefit of an individual with a disability. Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), “therapy animals” providing emotional support do not qualify as service animals. For more information please visit https://www.ada.gov/service_animals_2010.htm

Although many of the developed areas at Mount Rainier National Park predate laws requiring fully accessible facilities, they are working to ensure that all visitors can experience and enjoy the park. If you have special needs or situations not explained in the information below, call (360) 569-6575, any day between 9 AM and 4 PM to communicate with a park ranger.

Why Visit

At this 725-acre wildlife park tucked away in the forest near Mt. Rainier, you’ll see over 200 animals in a beautiful Pacific Northwest setting—no hike required. Families with mixed mobility will enjoy the paved trails leading through the forest, as well as the Kids Trek play area. This is ideal for visitors who use manual and power chairs, walkers, and canes.

Best Time to Go

This is a year-round attraction. Weekend summer months are the busiest times of the year.

Navigating Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

Enjoy miles of paved nature trails while you explore native vegetation and see many of the animals in their exhibits. The guided tram tour is an accessible tram; it is covered, heated, and narrated by a naturalist. The tram tour lasts approximately 40 minutes and takes you through the Free-Roaming Area to see the herd animals. A limited number of wheelchairs, electric carts, and single and double strollers are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis. Manual chair are $12, and

electric wheelchairs are $35.

Northwest Trek is ADA-accessible with graded, paved pathways allowing for comfortable maneuvering around the park. Wheelchairs can be secured in the trams and a courtesy cart is available to transport visitors with mobility issues from Trek Center to the tram tour station.

Sensory Inclusive

Northwest Trek Wildlife Park is a certified Sensory Inclusive facility, registered with KultureCity. The park offers quiet places, sensory bags and

headphones. Staff are trained in helping people with sensory needs enjoy their visit. Guests can check out a number of black, backpack-style sensory bags from the Tram Tour Station. Weighted lap pads are also available.

Each of the Sensory Bags available at Northwest Trek includes noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, a feelings card for non-verbal guests to use in helping others understand their challenges, and an ID badge on a lanyard to identify the user as someone who may be challenged by sensory overloads.

Service Animals At Northwest Trek Wildlife Park

Service animals are welcome. On arrival, let the staff at the ticket window know about the service animal. When taking a guide dog on the tram ride please note the floor of the tram is similar to that of a bus. If your service dog gets fatigued on busses from maintaining their position on a smooth surface for an extended period of time (30 minutes or more), you may want to bring a flat mat for your dog to sit or lay on.

Guide dogs can accompany passengers on the guided tram tour,

elk bugling tour in the fall, and the off-road adventure keeper tours.

When it comes to dining in the Mt. Rainier region, you have your choice of everything from humble burger shacks to refined dining rooms at historic lodges. Summer months are peak season when restaurants are all open and busy. It’s important to

note that not all restaurants are open during the winter and early spring seasons, and operating hours can vary during these off-peak seasons. It’s wise to call ahead to inquire about open hours during the months of November through April. For the sake

of space in this guide, we were not able to provide photos of both the exterior and interiors with restroom facilities; however, photos of interiors and restrooms are uploaded to our website when possible.

Why Visit

Located at the Cispus Learning

Center south of Randle, the Braille

Trail is designed to enhance your

experience of hiking through a deep

forest setting.

Best Time to Go

Summer months ( July-August) and

early fall when the weather tends to

be more dry.

Wheelchair Accessible?

The trail is wide enough to

accommodate standard and

motorized wheelchairs and electric

scooters. This is an unpaved trail. The

trail is wide and flat and during dry

weather the path is hardpacked. Keep in mind that the trail is in a heavily wooded area and winds can knock down branches and occasionally block the trail. There are a few random tree roots and cut stumps to navigate along the trail. This is not always a barrier-free zone. The trail may not always be accessible with a chair.

Navigating

The level loop trail is less than a mile in length and is equipped with a guide rope to follow around the well-maintained path which is free of toe-stubbing features such as roots and jutting rocks often found on regular trails. Avoid the Angel Falls Loop Trail as it requires a stream crossing and
