The emergence o the Internet and the digital world has changed the way
people access, produce and share inormation and knowledge. Yet people
in Arica ace challenges in accessing scholarly publications, journals
and learning materials in general. At the heart o these challenges, and
solutions to them, is copyright, the branch o intellectual property rights
that covers written and related works. This book gives the reader an
understanding o the legal and practical constraints posed by copyright
or access to learning materials in Arica, and identifes the relevant
lessons, best policies and best practices that would broaden and deepen
this access. The book is based on the work o the Arican Copyright and
Access to Knowledge (ACA2K) research network, launched in late 2007 as
a network o researchers committed to probing the relationship between
copyright and learning materials access in eight Arican countries:
Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, South Arica andUganda.
REcommENdEd FoR
Educators, policymakers, publishers, scholars and all people who wish
to understand some o the key actors at play in knowledge/learning
