During its lifetime rail rolling stock will cover many millions of miles, may have several franchised operators, undergo several refurbishments and can serve many uses.

Installed on these vehicle’s and vital to their operation will be fitted electrical isolation and safety control keyswitches; along with critical equipment enclosures that contain essential hardware such as door controls and CCTV DVR cabinets, all of which will require strictly controlled security key systems over their lifetime of operation.

Similar security issues are common to this within trackside infrastructure. The more you consider the

more you realise that safety and security issues are becoming increasingly important across all of the UK transport sectors. As an example of this if you consider the logistics associated with key control across the UK’s rail network it could be deemed as overwhelming.

An increasing number of contractors working on behalf of rolling stock operators and infrastructure providers will be requiring access to critical installations and enclosures along the trackside. In this increasingly challenging economic climate, and with threat levels increased, how do you continue to deliver safe and efficient networks, how do you convince the public that your networks remain safe against a challenging economic backdrop?

Security solutions for the Rail Industrydormakaba, as members of RIA and RISQS have devel-oped a range of products and solutions specifically de-signed for the rail industry.

dormakaba’s name has become synonymous in the rail sector as a provider of robust patent protected high security keying systems, designed to operate with absolute reliability in some of the toughest environments found in the industry.

Rail SolutionsKeeping Infrastructure and Rolling Stock Secure

Locomotives & Rolling Stock

In addition to protecting buildings and other fixed assets, dormakaba has a long history of working with train operators to protect their rolling stock. With a product design, development and manufacturing facility still located in the UK, dormakaba works with customers to create tailor-made products based upon their specific needs, giving particular consideration to the environment in which the product is to be used. Some typical rolling stock requirements may include:

• Door locks- Cab Entrance/ Exit • On-board Critical Equipment Enclosures• Low voltage switchlocks• Emergency push buttons• Cupboard/panel locks• Key exchange systems• Safety interlocks

Because every rolling stock manufacturer or TOC’s requirements are different, dormakaba are equipped to provide precise tailor made solutions in all our fields of competence. Whilst it is essential that fleet security is reliable and effective, it is also important that it is quick and easy to operate. dormakaba’s range of products and experience will create a solution designed for you.

Station Buildings

Security requirements at railway stations and in particular the major strategic rail hubs have continued to increase in recent years with a central concern being operational access control, ticketing and individual access checks.

Train operators are looking to maximise the flow of people through their stations while maintaining high safety standards. At the same time architects and planning teams are constantly striving for an open, welcoming look. Passengers, visitors and staff expect access controls to be quick and user-friendly.

Satisfying these different requirements is a challenge – one which dormakaba is happy to accept. Our solutions allow an organisation to control both fully online (cabled) and stand-alone (un- cabled) doors and cabinets either mechanically with Patented secure key systems or from within one access control software solution also available from dormakaba.

Trackside & Signalling Equipment

Communication and power are essential to any railway and they often are protected by trackside cabinets. These cabinets can often be:

• The target of vandalism• Remote & difficult to provide adequat protection.

dormakaba offer a range of padlocks to suit a wide variety of applications providing high levels of physical security combined with market leading key control procedures. The Kaba Padlock range is based upon the proven technology of the Kaba 20 and Kaba quattro pluS cylinder ranges and demonstrates a logical progression in terms of security levels. The Kaba Padlock range can be keyed alone or keyed alike to form part of a large and complex Master Key system, which incorporates other methods of locking such as Cabinet locks, Door locks, Camlocks and Keyswitches.

Safety Critical Equipment

Kaba Keyswitches provide solutions where secure control of switching is required. The Kaba system utilises high quality cylinder locks operated by the unique smooth Kaba dimpled key, being strong and reversible.

The combination of switches, cylinders and key movements have been developed to meet the increasing needs for safety and security, controlling personnel, processes and equipment and monitoring activities.

Kaba keyswitches can be included in master key systems with other products such as camlocks, push button locks and padlocks to provide a high level of organisational control, with users required to only carry one key.
