1. The Adventures of Tintin

• Directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the comics by Hergé.

• Original Score by John Williams

• It’s the forty-seventh nomination for John Williams, together with the another nomination for War Horse.

• John Williams was born in New York in 1932. He has composed some of the soundtracks for very famous films like Jaws, Star Wars saga, Harry Potter saga, Indiana Jones saga or E.T..

• John Williams is one of the most recognised composers for films, he has made the score for more than a hundred films.

• He also makes music for TV series and some years he has directed the orchestra of the olympic games.

• He has won the Oscar 5 times, the first one in 1971 for The Fiddler in the Roof, in 1975 for Jaws, in 1977 for Star Wars, 1982 for E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and in 1993 for Schindler’s List.

• In 2005, the American Film Institute chose his score for the film Star Wars as the best american soundtrack of all time.

2. The Artist • Directed by Michel Hazanavicius.

• It’s a mute film, so it has no dialogues, only music.

• Score by Ludovic Bource.

• French Composer, he has made scores mainly for short films.

• He wasn’t very famous until this film, for which he won a Golden Globe.

• He also won the European Film Award for Best Score, The Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for Best Composer, and the Chicago Film Critics Association Award for Best Original Score.

• The Artist is one of the films with more nominations this year, for Best Film, Direction or Best Actor, amongst many others

3. HUgO

• Directed by Martin Scorsese, based on

the novel by Brian Selznick.

• Score by Howard Shore.

• Howard Shore is a Canadian composer,

he has won 3 oscars, 2 Golden Globes

and 4 Grammys. He has also composed

an opera and a short Fanfare.

• He has made the score for the Lord of the

Rings trilogy, for which he won three

times the Academy Award.

• He has composed the scores of at least

80 films, like The Silence of the Lambs,

Gangs of New York, The Aviator or A

Dangerous Method.

4. Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

• Directed by Tomas Alfredson,

based on the book by John le

Carré.

• Score by Alberto Iglesias.

• Spanish composer born in

San Sebastián. Not only

recognised in Spain, also in

Hollywood.

• He has made the scores of

many of the films by Pedro

Almodóvar.

• This is his third nomination for tha Academy Award, the first was in 2005 for The Constant Gardener and the second in 2007 for The Kite Runner.

• He has won the Goya Award 9 times, and he’s also nominated this year for the last Almodovar’s film La Piel que Habito.

• He has also composed music for ballet and has earned nominations for the Golden Globes and the BAFTA awards.

• Years ago he created a band, The Black Seeds. He’s also member of the Wellington International Ukulele Orchestra.
