• Age: between 14 and 18 years old, (for students over 18, please contact us)• Students’ requirements:

- be open minded and prepared to stay in a host family from a different background

- respect the rules and customs of the host family- adapt to the different means of transport required to go to school (bus, walk, train)

• every student with special diet needs or suffering from a medical problem (i.e.: allergies; vegetarian; diabetes etc.), will have to indicate it so that SILC can make an appropriate placement.

• SILC always do the best to never refuse a student and to consider each case with all its particularity not to bereave any student of this opportunity.

The level is not the main condition for SILC; the most important is the motivation and the maturity of the student. If the level is insufficient, we can offer intensive French preparation courses in Paris, before the beginning of the programme.

• Today French is spoken around the world by 128 million people as a native language, and by about 280 million people as a second or third language, with significant speakers in 54 countries. It is an official language in 33 countries; it is also an official language for all the United Nations agencies and for a large number of international organizations including Olympic Games, Red Cross International, all European institutions and many other international organizations.

• Every year, around 960 000 people start to learn French on 120 million that already learn French over the world, through the widest cultural institution in the world for French. More than 780 universities in France propose to welcome foreign students and help them to continue their graduation in France.

Accommodation

French educational systemIn a French lycée, all general subjects are taught but emphasis is placed either on Sciences and Maths, Languages and Arts or Economics and Sociology according to the major chosen. The system is challenging and on average a student sits in lessons for 32 hours per week and be required to provide a fair amount of homework. At the end of the “Première”, students take a first part of Baccalauréat and in “Terminale”, the final year, they sit the full exam. After the Baccalauréat, gateway to the Higher Educational studies at a University, prep school or vocational education

• The accommodation will be host family or boarding school.- During the school days lunch will be at school ; breakfast and dinner with

the family- full board during weekends and school holidays. SILC places the young

people in families mainly according to their interests and hobbies in common• Selection and control of the host families:

- careful selection according to a qualitative charter based on the standard of French administration

- regular controls to make sure that the SILC standards are respected- criminal backgrounds of host families are checked every year

• Host family requirements:- desire to welcome a young foreigner in their house as a member of their

family.- wish to open up to different cultures and to share theirs daily life- host families are volunteers.

SILC can organize an accommodation in boarding school during the week and in host family the weekend

LocationPlacement will be done all over France according to student and host family profiles. Students can choose different areas of placement in option and SILC will do the placement according to the availability at the time of the registration.

The High School placementThe high school placement will be made according host family choice and location.• At the end of the program, SILC can help the student to officially evaluate his

level of French and obtain a certificate.• At the end of the year, SILC will help the student to get the “Apostille” and do

not loose the year in his/her country.• The student can choose the stream of his studies if the level of French

allows it.• The student will be placed in a public school, but student can also choose

a private school option.

• The holiday’s calendar can vary according to the areas of stay but they all have a duration of 2 weeks (exact dates confirmed on placement):

- Autumn (Oct / Nov) - Winter (Feb / March)- Christmas - Spring around Easter

• If the students wish to travel in France or visit some friends, the host family, SILC can help to organize the trip.

• If the student wish to have journey in his/her country for Christmas, SILC can help to organize the trip.

• If the student wants to choose an optional holiday programme, SILC can help him/her a SILC vacation camp where he/she can participate in cultural and sports activities with young French people of his age.

A SILC delegate and the SILC team provide an assistance service with:- ticket on trip booking- all transfers will be organized by SILC- regular check-up with the student and the host family- regular visits to the host families- regular follow-up with the school- arrival meeting with the student and the host family- a Welcome Pack with practical and cultural information
