In1966thefirstIEDopenedinMilan,Italy.OverthenextfourdecadestheIEDnetworkwouldexpandtoincludeschoolsinRome(1973),Turin(1989),Madrid(1994),Barcelona(2002),SãoPaulo(2005),Venice(2007),Florence(2008)andCagliari(2009).In2012,theAldoGalliAcademyinComoalsojoinedtheIEDGroupandin2013thecourseshavecommencedinRiodeJaneiro,thesecondIEDschoolinBrazil.
TodayIEDistheonlyprivatehighereducationacademicnetworkoperatinginthedesignareawhoserootsgodeepintotheauthenticItaliancultureofcreativity,whilealsodrawingoninvaluableinputfromallovertheworldandalwaysensuringaholisticviewofallthetrendsandinnovationsatworkinthesesectors.

IED has defined four distinct “schools” that represent the major fields of design. IED Moda, IED Design, IED Visual Communication e IED Management Lab are the academic pathways to the various creative professions that are rooted in design.
