German Mela was organized by BASF Germany on Deccan ground in Pune. Our 18 students
participitated there. They explained science experiments to other students who visited the
exhibition. Aim of the exhibition for the students to increase the interest in science. All the
faculties from the department visited the exhibition.

A lecture was delivered by Mr. Siddharth Desai which covered certain topics like:
1) Opportunities available after B.Tech for Chemical Engineers, 2) Importance of higher
studies after B.Tech, 3) Field work v/s Desk work: advantages and disadvantages, 4)
Importance of research and development department in an industry and 5) Industrial fields
where chemical engineers can blossom. The session was quite pleasing as to see the
former students doing so well in their particular spheres of life. Also, the information and
guidance they provided were very fruitful. The audience which included second, third and
fourth year students of chemical engineering department, VIT were thoroughly
enlightened by the industrial knowledge and experience of the alumni.

The Pump Workshop was a flagship Academic Workshop conducted during Vishwakarandak.
Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal, an industry expert in the field of pumps, undertook the workshop
primarily aimed at 2nd and 3rd Year Students from Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial Engg.
Branches. The primary focus was on Centrifugal Pumps. Everything, right from the basics to the
complexity of pumps was explained in simple and lucid language. The students were able to take
maximum benefit out of the workshop and enhance their basics with regards to pumps

Workshops which are tailored according to the syllabus prescribed. The ASPEN workshop

The Chemical Engineering department organized departmental alumni lecture where all the
former students of Chemical Department of Vishawakarma Institution of Technology (VIT) were
invited for this meet VIT which included welcoming of the chemical department professors and
audience, felicitation of the alumni present in the meet, a powerpoint presentation about the
entire structure and working of chemical department of VIT by Prof. D. S. Bhatkhande (HOD–
Chemical Department, VIT) and guest lecture by alumni.
The audience which included second, third and fourth year students and M.Tech students
of chemical engineering department, VIT were thoroughly enlightened by the industrial
knowledge and experience of the alumni. The professors of the department also got to know the
changing environment with respect to industrial lifestyle.

Topic: Alumni Panel discussion on Career oportunity and higher study
Attended by
On 5th September,2015 ChESA held Alumni Panel Discussion on 'Careers in Focus- Chemical
engineering'. Overall goal of panel discussion was to provide an opportunity for students to
communicate with the alumni directly and ask questions to them. The Program actually started
at 11.00am. First Prof. Kapadnis sir falicilate all alumni by giving them a reward. There were six
alumni came, NileshSakpal (2003 batch, Director, Techniche Engineering Pvt Ltd- Process
safety and risk management), AbhimanyuDeshpande (2004 batch, Research and development,
Halliburton Technologies), VikasKharate (2005 batch, DSM India Pvt Ltd, manufacturing
excellence manager), Sunil Ghule (2009 batch,Director, Gateway Institute), Yogesh Munkar
(2013 batch) and Kishlay Pushpraj(2010 batch).
It was a platform where the current students could meet the alumni and get a better perspective
from them regarding the future of their wards. It was actually a great opportunity to interact with
them in an open forum. All the alumni first introduced themselves and told about their current
position. After that the discussion started. students asked their doubts and alumni answered to
satisfy the students doubts.
The discussion continued for about two hours in which they tried to cover all the points
regarding job opportunities, importance of master degrees, personality development, integrity
etc. The main focus of was on the integrity and personality development. Also they told about
how master degree perceived after doing job for some years helps to start our own business.
Their personal experiences and knowledge helped students to understand the seriousness of
future. They also gave some tips to all students about personal interview during placements.
As 5th September is a teachers day, so all the students wishedKapadnis Sir and gave him a small
gift. In this way, the program ended by thanking the alumni and taking promise from them to
help students in future.

The Chemical Engineering Students Association prides itself upon the practical academic
support it provides to the department. Every semester, we make sure to organize certain
Industrial Training Workshops which are tailored according to the syllabus prescribed.
The Pump Workshop
The Pump Workshop was a flagship Academic Workshop conducted during Vishwakarandak.
Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal, an industry expert in the field of pumps, undertook the workshop
primarily aimed at 2nd and 3rd Year Students from Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial Engg.
Branches. The primary focus was on Centrifugal
Pumps. Everything, right from the basics to the
complexity of pumps was explained in simple and
lucid language. The students were able to take
maximum benefit out of the workshop and enhance
their basics with regards to pumps.
Workshops that Work
Seminars on career alternatives and soft skills can
provide crucial tips for advancement.
But some workshops are more helpful than others.
On a Thursday afternoon in September 2017, Chemical Engineering Students Association
(ChESA) of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology arranged a Workshop, that was filling beyond
capacity. The workshop was held by Mr. Pankaj Khandelwal, who completed hisB. Tech from
IIT Roorkee and M. Tech from IIT Kanpur. He works as a Consultant in piping engineering
course having 17-20 years of teaching experience. The lecture was on the topic Fluid
Operations - Pump. The lecture had covered all important and basic flow operation principles
up to pumps, its types, working principles, selection criteria, mechanism, industrial applications,
data sheets and industrial problems.
