Services and Assistance
The Rinella Learning Center provides a variety of free services to help any student develop the academic skills they need to be successful at Miami University and address any academic performance concerns they have.

Common Adjustment Issues Faced by First Year Students
What services does the Rinella Learning Center provide?
Supplemental Instruction (SI) Offered for a variety of historically difficult courses Free regularly scheduled out-of-class review sessions for all students
enrolled in the course SI leaders attend the course and work with the instructor to develop
session content 2015/16 Usage: Students – 1326 Visits to SI Sessions - 5849
Peer tutoring Available for a variety of 100 & 200 level courses Individual and/or group tutoring depending on course Tutors are peers with minimum GPA 3.00 and B or higher in class Online appointment registration on RLC website 2015/16 Usage: Students 1176 Visits for tutoring - 6809
Supplemental Instruction & Tutoring
Meet with an RLC Learning Specialist to discuss a variety of academic questions/concerns/goals
Specific questions or general Learning Specialist can help student

Academic Counseling
Conversational process Weekly meetings with coach (RLC grad student staff
member) Tailored to fit student’s needs Common topics worked on in coaching include:

Academic Coaching
2 Credit Hour Course – EDT 110 Taken for a grade Assists students in developing:
Learning Strategies Study Strategies Time Management skills Awareness of current behaviors and thought
processes
Learning Strategies for College Success Course
Hour long workshops on a variety of topics Offered throughout each semester Topics include:
Time Management Study Strategies Note Taking Strategies Critical Reading Strategies Test Taking Strategies Test Taking Anxiety Motivation & Procrastination Finals Preparation
