The UNIVERSITY HONORS PROGRAM (UHP) uniquely rewards high-achieving students, seeking to enhance and enrich their university experience. The heart of the UHP is composed of engaging seminar classes of 15 students. These classes are specially created by outstanding faculty and constitute a small liberal arts college experience within a comprehensive research university environment – the best of both worlds!

Benefits of being an honors student:

• Honors seminar classes may be substituted for lecture hall core curriculum requirements.

• Courses of high interest in academic major may be honors contracted.

• Early registration for full academic schedule every semester.

• Streamlined access to campus research scholarships and national competitive scholarships.

• Extended checkout privileges at Morris Library.

• Building friendships in two dynamic Living Learning Communities, third largest on campus.

Applications and more information are available on our website: honors.siu.edu – please visit us in Morris Library, first floor, at the Thompson Woods entrance!

SIU CARBONDALE INVESTS MORE THAN

$25 MILLION IN OUR GRANT AND

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMS EACH YEAR.

The Academic Scholarship Office has the primary responsibility for awarding scholarships to new undergraduate students who are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, undocumented residents or deferred-action children. SIU Carbondale will notify admitted students who are eligible to receive an academic scholarship by mail and email and ask them to submit a General Scholarship Application. Each of our academic scholarships are offered on a funds-available basis and require a General Scholarship Application on file with SIU Carbondale.

Qualified students are encouraged to apply for admission early and will be considered when the following requirements have been fulfilled:

• You have submitted official ACT or SAT test scores, official high school transcripts and/or official college transcripts from every college attended.

• You have been admitted to the university.• You have submitted a General Scholarship Application.

SCHOLARSHIPS:SIU Carbondale has more than 700 scholarship opportunities available.

More than 2,500 incoming students are awarded scholarships each year through the Academic Scholarship Office.

More than 90% of students receive some form of financial aid.

ENROLLMENT STATUSScholarship recipients should enroll in 15 semester credits each fall and spring semester to be in a position to complete graduation requirements within a four-year period. Full-time attendance is required. If a scholarship recipient chooses not to enroll at SIU Carbondale in the fall or spring semester during any year of eligibility, he or she will forfeit the remainder of the scholarship award.

RENEWAL STATUSStudents must maintain full-time enrollment and a grade point average of at least 3.0 (4.0 = A) as calculated at the end of the spring semester to remain eligible for the scholarships awarded by the Academic Scholarship Office.

ON-CAMPUS LIVINGLearning happens in all areas of campus, including the residence halls. Living Learning Communities (LLCs) encourage the personal development and academic success of our residents. These LLCs offer students the chance to live with other students who share the same major or majors within the same college, or with whom they have something in common. LLCs give students the opportunity to meet and interact with other students, as well as faculty and staff.

In addition to LLCs, on-campus living also allows access to more than 2,000 programs each year and to leadership opportunities with registered student organizations.

Learn more about living on campus and important contract dates at housing.siu.edu.
