Be Spiritually Alive

A FOUNDATION OF FAITH

At Althoff Catholic High School, all decisions and

pursuits are ultimately guided by our identity as a

Catholic school, a community of God's people.

Students, teachers and visitors of all faiths and

backgrounds are always welcome. Each person's

religious beliefs and heritage are respected here.

However, as a Catholic institution, every student

and faculty member participates in the life and

education of the Catholic faith. Also, a variety of

events and special programs are available for

students and faculty who feel called to greater

action in their faith life.

Core Programs:

Mass once a week for the entire school

Morning Prayer everyday

Penance Service twice a year for the entire school

Catholic Theology course every year

Single-day Retreat for Freshmen and Sophomores

Overnight Retreat for Juniors

Service Learning Project for Seniors

Holy Days & Church Seasons are observed

school-wide

“Be courageous and embrace

your faith, it's the most precious gift

you will ever be given.”

Be Well-Rounded

Here at Althoff Catholic we recognize the critical role extracurricular activities and sports play in the growth

and personal development of each student. As a small school, our students receive more one-on-one

attention and have more opportunities to explore and discover their interests and passions. We are proud

that 95% of our students participate in one or more extracurricular activities. You can learn more about our

academic, leadership, community service, arts, music and journalism clubs by exploring our website. We

are proud to offer 30 clubs and organizations and 25 sports teams to our student body.

"Playing sports has become very important today, since it can encourage young people to develop

important values such as loyalty, perseverance, friendship, sharing and solidarity."

“Your high school has taught you many things:

history, language, literature, science, math. At

some point in your lives you'll find yourself in

situations where none of those things is of any use.

Althoff's greatest lesson will never fail you. It comes

from courses you never took and grades you never

received. I believe it is this: the only success worth

having comes through love, friendship, and

prayer.”

Be Creative

FINE AND PERFORMING ARTS

At Althoff Catholic we have many opportunities for students to shine

in the creative arts. Through our music, performing and fine arts

classes and clubs your child can grow and express themselves in

new ways. Below are a few examples of what we offer. Visit the

student life section of althoffcatholic.org to learn more.

Crusader Innovations Show Choir is an elite group who performs

musical shows for area schools, civic groups, and parish clubs, and

competes in established contests throughout the state. The group

has also traveled to festivals in New York, Orlando, and the Smokey

Mountains. Major events each year are the Quincy Show Case of

Excellence in March and the McKendree University Midwest National

Competition in April. Membership requires an interest in

performance, a desire to sing and dance or play an instrument.

There is also a need for a backstage crew which includes costumes,

set and prop design and construction, and a technical staff for

sound and lighting.

Performance Arts Club is open to any student interested in drama

and theater. Continued membership involves maintaining passing

grades in classwork, responsible student behavior, attendance and

participation in required rehearsals, practices, and set construction,

as well as the privilege to join International Thespian Troupe #5554. If

you have a positive attitude and enjoy entertaining others, the

Performance Arts Club may be the group for you! At least two plays

are performed throughout the year. These include a spring musical

and small musicals and comedies in the fall. There is also a need for

a backstage crew which includes costumes, set and prop design

and construction, and a technical staff for sound and lighting.

The Speech Team competes in area speech contests as members of

The Greater St. Louis Speech League and the Illinois High School

Association Individual Events and Performance- in- the- Round

Program. Any Althoff Catholic student may audition to participate.

“Go after your dreams, work hard, and do

what you love and are truly passionate about

because happiness is the key to success.”

Be Led by Experience

Mr. Rusty Parker: 2015 Recipient of a University of Chicago

Outstanding Educator Award

“I knew Mr. Parker was an exceptional instructor from the very start of my

sophomore class with him, because within the first week, our class wasn't

merely brushing up on our summer reading texts for a test only to move on;

we were debating over them, freely yet civilly. We took a book that was

apparently a collection of war stories, Tim O'Brien's "The Things They

Carried," and considered it in a dialogue on the dilution of the word

"love." His film class only strengthened that impression by revolutionizing the

way I looked at not only cinema, but indeed all human creativity that hides

intricate detail left unnoticed by the untrained eye. Yes, the papers he

assigned were many, the prompts open-ended, and the themes never

spoon-fed, but these were the virtues by which he helped my writing take

For all the rigorous thinking and writing he demanded of us, Mr. Parker has also proven an exceptionally kind-hearted

and fun person in the classroom. He brought "Lord of the Flies" to life by taking our class outside to try starting a fire

with glasses – that truly teaches a sixteen-year-old the meaning of self-sufficiency, when life on a desert island seems

so abstract. Mr. Parker exuded a contagious enthusiasm for the films we screened, which, far from ebbing with the

analysis, seemed to thrive on it. I hope to carry that same spirit of eager inquiry throughout my endeavors.”

-Mr. Parker was nominated for this special recognition by A. J. DiGiovanni ‘15

A PROUD TRADITION

The faculty and staff members pictured below are all proud alums of Althoff Catholic High School who have returned

to serve as leaders for the next generation of Crusaders. This group holds a combined 142 years of dedicated service

to our school. To learn more about these and other faculty and staff members, visit althoffcatholic.org.

“Find your passion, set your goals, and work hard to achieve your dreams. Steady effort and

preparation are rewarded over the long haul. Try to dedicate a part of your professional

energies to the service of others. This service component just might be the most rewarding."

-Mark Lucarelli, M.D., Class of 1983

Oculoplastic Surgery - University of Wisconsin, Madison
