25th April 2014

Dear Parents/Carers

Academic Review – 1st/2nd May 2014

We will be completing the second or our follow ups to Academic Review day as students review their latest tracking and set strategies to meet their end of year targets. As in January the process aims to monitor students’ progress and highlight further interventions and strategies to meet or work beyond these target grades. You as a parent/carer are vital in this process and welcome your support.

On May 1st and 2nd we will be finishing lessons at 2.30pm and have an extended tutor period until 3pm. On May 1st students with surname A-L will remain for the academic review session, while students with surname M-Z will be dismissed at 2.35pm after registering. The process will reverse on the following day.

Students during these sessions will be working in pairs to analyse their current tracking and review their academic review targets. This PEER assessment process is key to ensure students share ideas and thoughts about their strategies for success and how to achieve their challenging targets.

Your child will return home with three documents in an envelope, their latest tracking, their academic review targets and a review sheet. During the peer assessment process students would have completed the review sheet. We would ask at this point for you to discuss the progress and comments your child has made using their targets and latest tracking to suggest what further needs to be done. Some key questions on the following page have been provided to help you with this process. When this has been completed please can you write any comments you may have and sign this document.

The target sheet and review sheet should be returned to your child’s tutor before 9th May. I would like to thank you in advance for your support in this process.

Yours sincerely

Mr M Morris

Assistant Head/Head of Sixth FormDISCUSSING ACADEMIC TARGETS

The following questions could be used when discussing your child’s tracking, academic targets and strategies they set in place to meet them. Remember please give plenty of praise for progress that has been made and consider their strategies if little or no progress have been made.

If the target has been met

Why do you think you have already met your target? What have you done to achieve this? Why were you successful?

What target would you like to set now? What are your new success criteria?

Were the strategies that you identified useful? Would you like to adapt them or change them?

Could you ask for more challenging work in lessons? Could you ask your subject teacher for extension work to stretch your understanding and knowledge?

If the target has not yet been met

Why do you think that your target has not yet been met? Have you made progress since your last tracking? If not do you know the

reasons why? Could you get more feedback from you subject teacher? Have you followed the strategies that you decided upon back in

November? If not can you give reasons why? Do you need to set alternative strategies? What will they be? Are you

confident that these will work? Do you need to discuss these with your subject teachers/tutor?

Do you need to alter your success criteria? If so what would be achievable and realistic in the term and half we have remaining?
