Native Instruments KontaktIn order to use the Academic Grand library with the Kontakt sampler, you need the full version installed. The Kontakt Player software will only let you use it in Demo Mode. Versions for Kontakt 2, 3 and 4 are included.

Acousticsamples ASPlayerThe ASPlayer works as AU or VST PlugIn on MAC and PC and can be downloaded at our website. This version is fully working but has a little less features than the Kontakt version and more than the other samplers.

Apple EXS24 and GaragebandIn Garageband, place the «.exs» file and the samples in the «Sampler Instrument» directory and the Sampler files folders in the «Library/Appli-cation support/GarageBand/Instument Library/Sampler/» directory.

The Academic Grand library can be used with

5Academic Grand User Guide

Installing the Academic Grand library is simple and can be done in three short steps.

1 Login to your Acousticsamples account and download the files:

«AcademicGrand-patchesV2» and «AcademicGrand-samples.part[1], [2], [3].rar».

2 To extract .rar files you need an archiver software. We suggest:

for Windows: WinRAR http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm for MacOs: UnRarX http://www.unrarx.com/

If you use another extraction software, the folders might not be created exactly as they should. Remember that all the extracted files should be in the same folder.

3 Extract the archives:

on Windows: First, double click (or right click: «open with WinRAR») on the

«AcademicGrand-patchesV2» file. This will create a folder with the patches inside. Then, double click (or right click «open with WinRAR») on the «AcademicGrand-samples.part1.rar» file. The other two sample archives will be automatically expanded and this will add a sample folder inside the previously created patches folder. The library is now ready to be launched.

on MacOs: First, right click: «open with UnRarX» on the

«AcademicGrand-patchesV2» file. This will create a folder with the patches inside. Then, right click: «open with UnRarX» on the «AcademicGrand-samples.part1.rar» file. The other two sample archives will be automatically expanded and this will add a sample folder inside the previously created patches folder. The library is now ready to be launched.

Library Features

The Academic Grand is a 1963 Steinway D concert grand which has seen countless recitals and concerts over the years where it served as the University of Arkansas' primary concert instrument. The piano has been an inspiration to hundreds of students and visitors. Being well-maintained and cared for, it's a wonderful instrument with a unique history and the classic American Steinway sound. We have been working in collaboration with Lance Herring on this project.

• 2.82 GB sample bank, recorded at 24 bit/48 kHz

The Interface

1 [Sensitivity] allows you to control the sensitivity of the instrument, i.e. the way the piano responds to velocity changes.

2 [Pedal Noise] volume sets the volume of the pedal noises that are triggered when you put the pedal down or up.

3 [Release Vol] sets the volume of the note release, i.e. the sustained notes when the sustain pedal is up.

4 [Tone] gives an easy access to the overall tone of the piano.

5 [Thumps Vol] sets the volume that the keys produce.

6 [Reset] resets all parameters to their default value.
