Our tailored assessment

Developed in partnership with Cambridge English – the world leader in the field of language assessment – INTO’s English Language Assessment Test (IELA) provides a standardised online assessment of all four core language skills throughout your studies – enabling your progress to be accurately monitored. You will be formally tested using IELA both at the beginning and end of your studies.

Your personalised progress plan

Confirm your level: during your first two weeks, we will test your level to ensure that you are placed in the best class to support your language development.

Plan your progress: we’ll help you to plan which modules you need to study to reach the level you are aiming for.

Check your progress: you will complete written and oral assessments at the end of each term. Through the production of an assessed language portfolio you will continue to learn outside of the class.

Course structureTo get you started we’ll focus on developing your fluency and understanding across the four core skill areas of English, as well as expanding your vocabulary. This will ensure you have the perfect foundation on which to build specialist knowledge for both exam preparation and university success.

What will I study?

Academic English

Progression to academic studyTo ensure that you achieve the level required for academic study, we’ll work closely with you to help you keep track of your progress. The speed at which you develop will depend on how long you study with us, your current level, as well as how engaged you are.

If you attend all of your classes, complete the exercises set by your teachers and make full use of our digital learning platform, you can expect to progress by up to one IELTS band per term. Don’t forget to practise your new language skills outside of the classroom by getting involved in life at the Centre.

Once you have reached the level required and met all other requirements, you may progress to your INTO pathway programme. You can also use your test results from Academic English to enter one of our partner universities, which recognise INTO’s English Language Assessment Test (IELA) for entry to their degree programmes.

KEY FACTS

Start dates: beginning of each term. In the summer term there is also a mid-term entry point.

Course length: the exact length of your course will depend on your start date and chosen centre. A term typically includes 10 teaching weeks plus orientation and reading days. The summer mid-term entry includes 16 teaching weeks.

Level: From IELTS 3.0

Length: 1-4 terms

Lessons: 30 learning hours per week, with 25 hours of taught lessons plus an additional 5 hours online guided study

Minimum age: 16 years or above, depending on your chosen centre.You must also meet the minimum age requirements for your chosen academic programme. Please contact INTO Admissions for further information.

What is “Topics for University Study”?

You will study language and content related to your future studies, so you are better prepared for your academic course:

This course provides the fastest and most effective way to achieve your required English language level. It is perfect for students who do not yet have the English language level needed for further academic study.
