9. EXPLANATION OF THE CHANGE: The American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), our program accreditor, is revising their standards to become outcome based program evaluation. ACCE changed the minimum credit hours in categories such as business management, construction and construction sciences and now will use learning outcome evidence to demonstrate compliance. 9. EXPLANATION OF THE CHANGE: At present, the Master of Mass Communication is only offered under Option B. We propose to make an Option C also available to those enrolled in the M.M.C. Over half of the students in the online Master of Mass Communications are currently employed as media professionals. For those with extensive field experience, Option B, the professional project, is redundant because it is no different than work they do every day. With Option C, students would complete 36 credits of coursework, four more than Option B. Their oral defense would be over completed coursework and will also include a review of a significant portfolio of work that demonstrates their professional expertise. Option B will continue to be available for students who do not have the extensive professional media experience or for those who wish to complete a project in a different aspect of the discipline. For instance, someone with newspaper editorial journalism experience may want to create a public relations or advertising project. Three other institutions that offer the M.M.C. — Arizona State University, Louisiana State University, and the University of South Carolina — have a coursework only option. 9. EXPLANATION OF THE CHANGE: The Clinical Nurse Leader (emphasis) program is evolving nationally since its inception. Required competencies for the role were mapped against the original courses, and redundancies were found. Through extensive consultation, it was also found that SDSU’s program was much longer than other programs and required significantly more clinical hours. These changes remove the redundancies within the program, and bring it more in line with other programs across the country, while ensuring students are able to meet the expected competencies for eligibility to write the certification examination. A: Justification: The benefits to students of maintaining the Entrepreneurship certificate do not justify the resources required to support it. The certificate requires that students complete 10 out of 12 possible one-credit courses. These courses exist only for the purpose of the certificate program and are not required by any major or minor. Since 2009, only eight students have actually earned the certificate. The faculty FTE used to staff the certificate courses would therefore serve more students if they were devoted to other academic programs instead. The original intent of the certificate was to allow interested students to develop the tools and competencies required for entrepreneurship. Since the launch of the certificate, however, SDSU has added both a major and minor in entrepreneurship, rendering the certificate redundant.

B. Plan for completion of program by current students

The Department of Economics will continue to offer certificate classes for the 2014-2015 academic year, which should allow any students currently pursuing the certificate to complete it. Any other students with an interest in entrepreneurship will be encouraged to complete the Entrepreneurial Studies minor (or major) instead.
