Overview
• Basic Principles• High Level Architecture• Issues
33
Principles
• Single radio operation– Dual radio operation should be supported, but is not mentioned in this
material.
• Support bi-directional handoff• Support for active handoff for real-time service (such as VoIP)
– To maximize handoff performance, session setup (e.g. HRPD session, PPP setup, and CMIP/PMIP binding update) should occur before handoff commences
• HRPD-WiMAX handoff solution may impact existing infrastructure as little as possible– Minimum change of legacy HRPD networks.
– IOS signaling interfaces should be used as much as possible
• Minimal impact on terminal complexity

Issues
• CMIP to PMIP handover needs to be studied– PMIP on the WiMAX side
• Timing of MIP change is still being looked at– Probably only two choices; before or after air interface HO
• Where is standardization done?– Not many impacts to TSG-A– Only TSG-X?– Where is Tunneling Protocol defined?
Next Steps
• Samsung will be bringing more detailed call flows to the Hollywood meeting– CMIP/CMIP and CMIP/PMIP
• We would like to see a skeleton document agreed to so we can begin to bring contributions against it– TSG-A impact may be small– Skeleton documents are being brought to both TSG-A and TSG-
