This study used a qualitative design in order to define, understand and

interpret the different literatures of the Manuvos in San Miguel by virtue of the

narratology with the use of literary approaches in formalism and mimesis.

Furthermore, this study identifes the prevalent oratures of the Manuvos in San

Miguel, Surigaodel Sur with respect to themes and issues, symbolisms that are

found in their oral literatures. Subsequently, this study helped us identify how

these oratures affected their way of living, reflected their language and culture

and values in the Manuvo lives as one of the indigenous communities in Surigao

del Sur.

In this study, there are oral literatures found in Siagao, San Miguel which

included folk songs, ritual songs(Tud-oms) and stories of the manuvos which are

still existing in their community. Also, the use of approaches (formalism and

mimesis), metaphorical language, prevalent themes and symbols in

understanding cultures and traditions have reflected in their ways of living of the

manuvo community. Meanwhile, this study is an opportunity of the manuvos in

preserving their oral literatures (oratures) so that future generations will
