ABSTRACT HANNY. Intravital Sign Findings at Corpse Inquiry of Drowning Victims compared with Theoretical Signs in Forensic Department of Bhayangkara Hospital Level I R.S Sukanto on January 2009-December 2012. Supervised by dr. SLAMET POERNOMO, Sp.F, DFM and dr. HIKMAH MUKTAMIROH, M.Med.Ed. Indonesia is one of the country with seas and open waters. It isn't uncommon to hear drowning victims founded even at marine accidents or water attractions. The handling of drowning victim case to date had not gold standard that can be used as parameter to diagnose surely drowning victims. The research is intended to know the differences between signs found in drowning victims and theoretical signs so that we can determine surely drowning victims signs and consider them as parametes to establish the drowning victim diagnosis. The kind of research that will be used in this part is analytical description with Cross Sectional Approach. The population in this research is drowning victims which were autopsied in forensic department at Bhayangkara Hospital Level I RS Sukanto Period January 2009-December 2012 as much as 46 victims. The sample in this research are all the those compatible with the research criteria. Data collection techniques in this research is using secondary data from post mortem result and treated by computer program SPSS for windows 17 for data analysis process. From the result of data analysis it is discovered cadaveric spasme sign as much as 2 (4,3 %) cases, ear bleeding as much as 17 (37%) cases, water in respiratory and digestive tract as much as 37 (80,4%)

ABSTRACT

HANNY. Intravital Sign Findings at Corpse Inquiry of Drowning Victims compared

with Theoretical Signs in Forensic Department of Bhayangkara Hospital Level I R.S

Sukanto on January 2009-December 2012. Supervised by dr. SLAMET POERNOMO,

Sp.F, DFM and dr. HIKMAH MUKTAMIROH, M.Med.Ed.

Indonesia is one of the country with seas and open waters. It isn't uncommon to hear

drowning victims founded even at marine accidents or water attractions. The

handling of drowning victim case to date had not gold standard that can be used as

parameter to diagnose surely drowning victims. The research is intended to know the

differences between signs found in drowning victims and theoretical signs so that we

can determine surely drowning victims signs and consider them as parametes to

establish the drowning victim diagnosis. The kind of research that will be used in this

part is analytical description with Cross Sectional Approach. The population in this

research is drowning victims which were autopsied in forensic department at

Bhayangkara Hospital Level I RS Sukanto Period January 2009-December 2012 as

much as 46 victims. The sample in this research are all the those compatible with the

research criteria. Data collection techniques in this research is using secondary data

from post mortem result and treated by computer program SPSS for windows 17 for

data analysis process. From the result of data analysis it is discovered cadaveric

spasme sign as much as 2 (4,3 %) cases, ear bleeding as much as 17 (37%) cases,

water in respiratory and digestive tract as much as 37 (80,4%) cases, paltouf spotting

as much as 10 (21,7%) cases, diatomaceous as much as 34 (73,9%) cases, asphyxia

sign as much as 27 (58,7%) cases, mushroom-like mass as much as 22 (47,8%)

cases. All of drowning victim case data as the subject of the research had intravital

signs, but not all of the intravital signs mentioned in theory appear as findings in

Corpse Inquiry of Drowning Victims because of several factors. There are

meaningful relationship between diatomaceous in lung with intravital sign except

diatomaceous. It’s indicated by probability value (Asymp. Sig (2-sided)) as much as

0.006 (p<0,05). Then, diatomaceous finding can be considered as an important sign

to help the diagnosing drowned victims.
