Academic Emphases

Public Administration; Local Government; Human Resources; Leadership and Organizational Behavior and Development. Areas of special interest within the profession include: cultural competency, social equity, ethics, immigration, responsiveness, Latin American public administration, risk communication in emergency management, urban policy and planning, and age friendly policies.

Administrative Accomplishments

During my tenure as department chair we accomplished the following: renewed our NASPAA accreditation to 2021; passed a Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board review process; ranked 8th in city management & urban policy and 26th in public administration & management by U.S. News & World Report; created online classes for emergency management; separated emergency management into its own department; received the following minors – alternative dispute resolution, human services, and nonprofit studies into the department; created a BS in Nonprofit Leadership Studies; created a BA in Urban Policy and Planning; created a cohort MPA modality for the City of Dallas, Spring 2018; Grew all degree programs, promoted international relationships; and maintained excellent alumni relations.
