Tips on Tetanus• Vaccination is the best means

of controlling tetanus. It also protects against infection due to non-aseptic injection techniques.

• Treatment for tetanus is time consuming and expensive. Mortality rate may also exceed 80%. So protection must be in place prior to exposure of the spores.

• Vaccination is recommended before periods of high risk, such as calving, potential wounds, tail docking, ear tagging, dehorning and banding/castration.

• Other clostridial infections may also be caused by consuming creep feed or milk replacers, grazing on lush pastures and finishing in feedlot.
