Oklahoma EPSCoR, in partnership with i2E, Inc. and the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST), will present Who wants to be an Entrepreneur, a free commercialization workshop designed for Oklahoma’s college level entrepreneurs and faculty advisors. Passion, talent and bright ideas are important but they are not the only things required in starting your own company. Angel investor authority, John May, and i2E president, Tom Walker join other industry experts in teaching the key elements to being a successful entrepreneur. About the workshop: This entrepreneurial workshop is an educational event for young entrepreneurs. This all day event will expose college students to successful business planning strategies and local resources for start-up technology-based businesses. It will also provide the opportunity to meet experienced commercialization experts and other college students interested in competing in the Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition. Who should attend? This entrepreneurial workshop is open to all college level entrepreneurs, university students and faculty throughout the state of Oklahoma who are eager to learn how to become the next high-tech entrepreneur. Students interested in participating in the 2009 Donald W. Reynolds Governor’s Cup Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition may find this workshop helpful. Information regarding the competition will be discussed. What are the benefits? The “Who Wants to be an Entrepreneur” workshop will provide essential information on topics that will assist in navigating the technology commercialization process and writing successful business plans. The planning path used by successful entrepreneurs. The do’s and don’ts of writing a business plan. An overview of the private investment market. How to successfully pitch your plan to investors. Ways to access grants and other capital sources. Why participate? Competitive regional economies require entrepreneurship. The process of starting, growing and sustaining advanced technology-based companies is faced with many challenges. It is critical for entrepreneurs, innovators, students and business professionals to expose themselves to information designed to enhance their understanding of the critical processes involved in starting high growth companies, recognizing that successful entrepreneurship requires an understanding of numerous business topics.
