The World of Lamar CISD
Points of Pride
i Lamar CISD is a Recognized District, with 75 percent of all campuses ranked Exemplary or Recognized.
i Lamar CISD has sixth-grade only campuses (middle schools), which focus on the needs of pre-adolescents, providing an easy transition to secondary schools.
i Smaller enrollments at Lamar CISD’s secondary schools (high schools are designed for no more than 2,000 students) help students feel secure and provide greater opportunities to assume leadership roles and participate in campus organizations and activities.
Parents Prefer Lamar...i Career and College Facilitators are at every high school, searching for financial aid for all graduates.
i All Lamar CISD fourth-grade students take swim lessons at the Lamar CISD Natatorium as part of the PE curriculum. The District pro- vides transportation for the classes, which are held during the regular school day.
i Project Lead the Way Engineering and Biomedical Science programs offer students hands-on experiences and college-preparatory level classes, labs and creative exercises. The program is nationally-certified on all four high school campuses.
The 2012-2013 school year marks the 65th year since the consolidation of numerous western Fort Bend County school districts to form the Lamar Consolidated Independent School District.
Lamar CISD has always remembered its small-town roots, while keeping an eye on the future. It’s a future that looks very bright, as we plan four new campuses.
At Lamar CISD, our focus is on our students. We’re a Texas Education Agency Recognized School District, with 75 per-cent of all schools ranked in the agency’s upper academic tiers, with 11 schools ranked Exemplary and 13 more ranked Recognized.
We’re also making a concentrated effort to include technology in every classroom. We realized early on that this didn’t mean training our students as much as it meant training our teachers. Every summer, Lamar CISD teachers attend the INTERACT Academy, learning about the latest in software and hardware, and more importantly, how to use it to keep our tech-savvy students engaged in the classroom.
In addition, every teacher new to Lamar CISD, whether they’re a rookie or a veteran coming from another school dis-trict, goes through Capturing Kids Hearts. This program helps teachers develop classrooms where “trust, respect and caring relationships flourish.”
While we continue to add students, which results in additional staff and more schools, the Board of Trustees and the Lamar CISD staff have taken a conservative approach to finances, resulting in one of the lowest tax rates in the Houston area.
