5 years to achieve your project!
HISTORY
ISTIA at the beginning
“Institut des Sciences et Techniques de l’Ingénieur d’Angers” –
ISTIA - was created in 1991.
CreationIt started as a department of the University of Angers and was composed of 3 Science & Technology Master - MST – programs, then it was transformed into an IUP (Industrial Systems Professional School) to which 7 different 5th year degrees were added.
EvolutionIn compliance with the Bachelor-Master-Doctorate European program, ISTIA switched to an Industrial technology Bachelor program and 2 Master programs – Industrial Systems Engineering and Industrial Innovation.
Since 2007Today ISTIA is an Industrial Systems Engineering School of the University of Angers authorized by the French National Commission of Engineering Schools and obtained the European quality EUR-ACE.
With 15 years of experienceISTIA has high-level professional experience and relies on a network of over 3,000 graduates throughout France, Europe and worldwide.
ISTIA – Engineering School
ISTIA’S MAIN OBJECTIVE
Education objective
ObjectiveTo give the student a good working knowledge of industrial systems to meet companies expectations.
ProgramToday through a well-balanced program including academic subjects, hands-on work and work experience all along the 5-years program, the ISTIA student acquires skills and abilities in general industrial subjects and a speciality in either Industrial Automation and Information Technology or Dependability, Reliability and Quality Management Systems.
Professional expertise
20 % of professional speakers in the engineering cycle.
Professional cooperationSince its creation, the ISTIA has relied on a number of professionals to complete the theoretical education with professional experience feedback.
OpportunityIt gives the students the opportunity to get in touch with the working environment and to facilitate their search for internships.
Professional field
Where do they come from?Professionals from large companies have their names associated with ISTIA in the field of:
- the automotive industry
- the aeronautic industry
Evolution of jobs in EngineeringThe 21st century engineer skills will not only rely on specific expertise but will also have to take into account project management and communications competences as a whole.
Therefore, ISTIA’s program is based on a five-year span, in order for the future engineer to meet the industry expectations through this new challenge .
- the computer industry
- the management of organizations
PREPARATORY CYCLE TO…

EI4 – 2nd year engineering cycleGeneral education curriculum specialist + project
EI3 – 1st year engineering cycle General education – Core curriculum with specialization
Objectives
The Automation and Computer program aims at giving a double professional competence.
The study of various subjects enables the student to master the computer tools as well as those necessary for designing and implementing automated systems.
Automation and Computer Science
Automation and Computer Science
Skills
The main focus is on software development, industrial automation, LAN, industrial supervision, real-time and embedded systems, robotics and virtual reality…
The graduate student gains industrial experience thanks to the alternation of academic courses and hands-on-work-projects and internships.
Quality management engineering
Objectives
The ISTIA engineer in Quality Management, Dependability and Reliability has theoretical knowledge and technical skills which he can efficiently apply to a wide range of industrial processes – physical systems, management, software development and services.
Program
The ISTIA engineer is familiar with teamwork and multidisciplinary projects. Our program develops the global approach to processes by taking into account technical, economic, strategic, human and environmental aspects.
Missions
The autonomy acquired during the program (team work, projects and training periods) enables the graduates to carry out the following missions:
• conducting company projects,
• implementing a quality system,
• piloting industrial activities,
• controlling and optimizing the quality of products,
• mastering the reliability of products under development,
• managing quality related to the environment and safety
Quality management engineering
Innovation Engineering
Where technology, market and organization meet
Objective: to educate engineers to be able to manage innovative projects with technical, scientific, management skills
Opening in September 2012
TEACHING FACILITIES
Computer equipment
Access
Within ISTIA premises, the students have a free access to 300 computers connected to the internet, from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm, Monday through Friday plus Saturday morning till 12:00 pm provided there are no teaching periods.
Connection
The ISTIA has a wireless network enabling students to use their own laptops anywhere in the school.
Each student has an email address administered by the university IT staff as well as a personal web site hosted by the ISTIA student server
The technology centre was mainly funded by the European Union; it was put into service in 2005.
This modern educational tool allows both students practical work and technology transfer between ISTIA’s research teams and the industrial environment.
This equipment includes 4 modules :
- A virtual reality environment used for industrial design and development- A climatic chamber for the validation and qualification of products- An automated production line - A workshop for modelling, simulating and piloting production systems (CAD-CAM)
Technology Centre
Among the 17 computer rooms, two have multimedia equipment allowing a teacher to control the student stations. The students have access to a number of software packages ranging from language courses to all the specific subjects of our programs. Most of the teaching staff have their courses available on the network.
One language laboratory, two multimedia rooms
ISTIA’s language policy is to develop and strengthen the students language skills. Two languages are required. English is compulsory as a first language, the second language is chosen between Spanish and German.
A TOEIC score of 750 must be reached for graduating as an ENGINEER.
An internship abroad is compulsory to complete the 1st year of the engineering cycle, it contributes to immerse the students in a different cultural and linguistic environment.
