The RI Board encourages these groups to celebrate Rotary Fellowships Month through projects, activities, and events. (RCP42.010.9.). MOP 2013.

What are the benefits for Rotarians in joining the Rotary Fellowships? Fellowship provides opportunities for Rotarians to make lasting friendships outside their own Club, District or country. There are many Fellowships that would be of interest to our members, and they are detailed on www.rotary.org/fellowships. You may find many extensive activities of the Rotary Fellowships that your profession, business or industry area has already established. If not, why not think about starting one yourself! Interested Rotarians can join a Rotary Fellowship by clicking: Rotary Fellowships Handbook (729) or even start a prospective Rotary Fellowship if their recreational or vocational interest is not in the list of approved Rotary Fellowships. The Rotary Fellowships are expected to facilitate communication among their members and maintain regular communication with RI.

The month of June is considered as Rotary Fellowship Month in the Rotary calendar. There is a misconception among Rotarians on what aspect of the RI programs is being celebrated for this month of June. Let us clarify the issue. When we talk about "Rotary Fellowships", we actually refer to the groups of Rotarians, Rotarian spouses and Rotaractors who join together to:

Ÿ Share a common interest in worthwhile recreational activities (sports, hobbies, etc.);

Ÿ Further their vocational development through acquaintance with others of the same profession;

Ÿ Make new friends around the world;Ÿ Explore new opportunities for service; and

Ÿ Have fun and enhance their experience in Rotary.

Examples of Rotary Fellowships include: Rotarians on the Internet (ROTI), International Fellowship of Rotarians of Amateur Radio (ROAR), International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians (ICUFR), International Fellowship of Rotary Convention Goers, International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians, International Fellowship of Rotarians Musicians, Rotary Global History Fellowship, etc.

The field is so varied, which includes marathon running, scuba diving, flying, bird watching, chess, doll lovers, environment, Esperanto, go, gourmets, lawyers, magic, nurses, police and law enforcement professionals, recreational vehicles, singles, stockbrokers, venture capitalists, wine and yoga.

Each Rotary Fellowship operates independently of Rotary International, with its own rules, dues requirements and administrative structure. Membership is open to Rotarians, spouses of Rotarians and Rotaractors. It must be international in nature with active members in at least three (3) countries. Each fellowship elects at least three (3) officers to oversee the group's administration. One of the world’s largest democracies had

record polling giving its univocal verdict in favor of

Narendra Modi. A fairy tale like story of a person

with humble background rising in the echelons of

Indian politics adorning the coveted post of Prime

Minister of the country unfolded right in front of us.

Midtowners have been busy discussing, debating,

analyzing the 'Modi' effect for long time . Today the open platform is made available to

Rotarians offering a one off chance to voice their opinion or provide personal analysis on

the mother of all events. Of course, not forgetting the fun loving nature of Midtowners, the

platform is also open to light hearted fun related to the election. Join the 'NaMo' mania,

have fun.

The 16th Lok Sabha elections in the country handed a clear mandate to Narendra Modi

and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Here are 10 interesting facts related to this

landmark election:

1. Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister to have contested from two different

constituencies (Vadodara and Varanasi) and won from both of them.

2. For the first time after 1984, no party has the required number of seats to qualify as

the principle opposition party. To qualify as the principle opposition party, one

needs 54 seats that is 1/10th of the total Lok Sabha strength.

3. A whopping 349 out of the 543 candidates that is close to 65% of the elected Lok

Sabha have won by a margin greater than one lakh votes.

4. Only 53% of the total members of the elected Lok Sabha are under the age of 55.

5. Only 12 MPs in the new Lok Sabha are under the age of 30. Dushyant Chautala,

Heena Gavit at 26 qualify as the youngest MPs while LK Advani at 86 is the oldest

MP.

6. The number of crorepati MPs in the current Lok Sabha has increased from 315 in

2009 to 449.

7. Jaydev Galla, the TDP MP from Guntur is the richest member of the Lok Sabha with

assets worth Rs. 683 crore, while Sumedha Nand Saraswati, the BJP MP from Sikar

in Rajasthan has the least assets worth Rs. 34,311.

8. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and the Aam Aadmi Party are the only two other

parties after the Congress and the BJP to have contested for over 400 Lok Sabha

seats. While AAP could manage only four seats, in a massive shock to the BSP, it

failed to open its account and drew a blank!

9. The turnout of voters in the current election was 66.2%. It was the highest ever

turnout, beating the previous one of 64% in the elections of 1984 and significantly

higher than the 58.2% in 2009.

10. Delhi and Mumbai are the only two places, comprising of more than five seats,

where candidates on all the seats (Seven and Six respectively) won by over one lakh

votes. All the 13 seats were won by NDA candidates.

Watt Up Charges Devices with Radio Waves. The WattUp wireless charging system relies on

radio waves to power electronic gadgets, which allows devices to be charged from some distance away.

The new method, developed by Energous, requires that the device to be charged be inserted inside either a special case or a slotted unit that functions as the receiver. The system's transmitter then uses Bluetooth to search the area for authorized devices and sends radio waves to the receiver attached to the device. The receiver converts the radio wave energy to DC power, which is used to charge the device.

The prototype system can send 10 watts up to 15 feet, which is enough power to charge a smartphone or tablet, and will also continue charging the device even if it moves.

As Rotary members from around the world filed into Allphones Arena for the opening ceremony of the 2014 International Convention in Sydney, they were greeted by news that the Australian government will commit $100 million over five years to help eradicate polio.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and New South Wales Premier Mike Baird were on hand to address the convention and assure Rotary members of Australia's commitment to their cause. Abbott has been at the center of attacks in recent days for his proposed federal budget, but he walked out to a standing ovation. "I don't normally get such an enthusiastic welcome," he quipped after the audience returned to their seats. "I just hope there are plenty of Australians out there."

"Please do not applaud the Australian government for what it does," Abbott added. "Applaud yourselves for what you do."
