A non-partisan, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote an understanding of the
world and its people and to engage citizens of Northeast Florida in
becoming better informed participants in the global community.

The Council was formed in 1985 as the National Interest Forum and joined the World
Affairs Councils of America in 1995.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS “YPS”
ArtWalkIn March, our YPs spent an
evening in downtown Jacksonville for the Young Professionals
ArtWalk. Despite the freezing weather, our members enjoyed
sharing the experience with other local YP organizations.
International Trivia!The World Affairs Council YPs
gathered last week for an evening of Trivia. Team PANGEA
went home with the win, narrowly beating the
competition by 1 point!

In 2005, the Jacksonville Council received the World Affairs Councils of
America President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement,
awarded annually to Councils that have shown extraordinary innovation,
growth, outreach, and impact.

Eleven high schools in the Jacksonville area are currently participating in the program.

A team game testing competitors’ knowledge of international affairs, geography, history and
culture.

The scholarship is in honor of the Council’s past president,
Ambassador Marilyn McAfee, who devoted her professional career to
serving in the Foreign Service and has been instrumental in the growth of the
Council.

A scenario, role-play exercise where students act as members of the NATIONAL SECURITY COUNCIL
… and work together to come up with recommendations for an acting President regarding a mock international crisis.

SPOTLIGHT ON TURKEYOverseas Teacher Enrichment ProgramThe Spotlight on Turkey program focuses on giving an overview of the history of Turkey with a special emphasis on Turkish culture to American educators and the general public.
With a spring teachers workshop, a Study Tour over the summer, and a cultural engagement in the fall, the program emphasizes classroom learning and public education about Turkey and its contributions to the global community.
