April News About the Sumner Senior Center
Welcome to the Sumner Senior Center. We provide activities, social interaction, and a hot lunch on weekdays for persons ages “55” and over. If you are looking for a Senior Center that offers positive changes, wonderful instructors, social interaction and personal training, then our Senior Center is the place for you. Here at the Sumner Senior Center we take pride in assisting you with all the best possible resources we can. We offer an array of different activities and amenities that we think will benefit you not only today, but down the road. Please feel free to inquire about any of the resources that we are currently offering. We are also open to new programs and activities that you are interested in having here.
This month is full of fun as we celebrate our Easter Celebration on Thursday, April 17th and our Sock Hop on Friday, April 25th! Trips this month include: Snoqualmie Casino on April 9th and Seymour Botanical Conservatory on April 30th. REMINDER: We are closed Friday, April 18th for Good Friday.
Together, we can make the Senior Center the best place to have fun in Sumner.

Exercise Room
Our Exercise Room is open to all seniors. We have a treadmill and recumbent stationary bike available for your use. Workout!
FOOT CARE
Jan Li is an RN experienced in senior foot care. Come see her for a complete foot exam & treatment. Sign up. Every other Tuesday.

Center Library
Need a book, take a book. Have a book, bring a book. Come visit our library! Guar-antee you will find a good book to read! Please put all donated OR returned books in the basket located on the floor in the library. Our volunteer will put them away.
Cascade Eye & Skin Center is coming to talk to you about the aging eye. Coffee, treats and raffle prize for all attendees!

Return: Pick up at 4:00 pm
Cost: $10 Fee at sign up, casi-no will give cash back or food voucher. Sign up by 4/1/14 so we can reserve our space on the Snoqualmie bus.

Summer BBQ Lunch Cruise
Date: Wednesday, August 27
Time: 9:45 am
Cost: $62 includes all trans-portation & lunch Cruise on Lake Union and Lake Washing-ton and enjoy a sizzling BBQ lunch, perfect for a summer af-ternoon on the water. Sign up in the Activities Book with $20 to hold your space and pay the balance by July 15th.
Seymour Botanical Conservatory
Date: Wednesday, April 30
Time: 9:00 AM Cost: $5 plus $ for lunch
We will travel to Wright’s Park, visit the conservatory, walk in the park (weather permitting), & enjoy lunch at the Hob Nob café. Sign up by 4/23/14.

Ceramics Class! You will learn how to use fired/non fired paints with a variety of techniques. Fee in-cludes supplies and materials.

Pinochle Come and join the Tuesday afternoon group. A tour-nament is held the 2nd Tues. of the month.

Chair Yoga
Join Barbara for a relaxing yoga and meditation class. We will be stretching, strengthening, lengthening and meditating.

Tai Chi
Come try Tai Chi with Phil. It re-duces the effects of arthritis, low-ers blood pressure and improves balance.

The Sumner Senior Center would like to recog-nize Mt. Valley Art Club Artist of the Month, Lar-ry Foraker. Stop by and check out our “Art Wall” and view all of her beautiful wild life portraits. Amazing art work.

SENIOR CORNER
Ralph Oldroyd:
Ralph was born and raised in Kirkland. After serving in WWII, Ralph moved to Pierce County and worked in the timber busi-ness while his wife Kathryn was a teacher.. They raised 5 chil-dren.
Hobbies: Ralph is one of our resident gamblers and has been fly-fishing for the past 70 years. Rivers, lakes—you name it!
Senior Center Member: Ralph started coming to the senior center after his wife passed away 9 years ago.
Favorite Memory is of a former staff member, Marion Hawkins. She used to run the senior center and became a very close friend of Ralph’s. They travelled together and shared some great times until her death. She was a great gal.
