Matryoshka

МАТРЁШК

АA set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. They are sometimes incorrectly referred to as "babushka dolls" (grandmother doll) .

The word "matryoshka" (матрёшка), literally "little matron", is a diminutive form of the Russian female first name "Matryona" (Матрёна).

Cheburashka`s story

This one small and strange animal became a real small symbol of Russia. Cheburashka is a character from children`s book written by Eduard Uspenskiy. It is a strange tropical animal which looks like a bear but has giant ears and huge eyes. According to the story he was found in the box full of oranges in which he arrived to a big city. He is very friendly and loves everyone. His best friend is a green crocodile Gena who is a really busy guy working in a Zoo and reading newspapers. But now Cheburashka is also very busy – he works as a Russian Olympic team mascot.

The name of this animal Cheburashka came from a Russian verb cheburahnutsa (spoken Russian) which means to fall awkwardly (Cheburashka did it often because of his huge ears).
