About P&G

Founded by William Procter and James Gamble, Procter & Gamble Co.,

more commonly known as P&G, is an American multinational consumer

goods company headquartered in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, United States.

P&G’s most well known products include cleaning agents and personal

care products, and P&G serves consumers in more than 180 countries. P&G

brands, such as Bounty, Crest and Tide, are global products across multiple

continents, from North America to the Middle East.

Twenty-six of P&G’s brands have more than a billion dollars in net annual

sales, according to the 2011 Annual Report and P&G Corporate Newsroom.

The challenge

The P&G team was initially looking for a user friendly tool that could be

installed quickly and that would enable them to log and track issues through

to resolution, as they were testing their website pre-launch.

The P&G team also needed a test management tool, to enable the creation

and execution of test cases that would allow their agencies to fully test all

site functionality prior to launching.

After meeting with the P&G team to understand its requirements,

Clearvision recommended Atlassian JIRA, an issue and project tracking tool.

JIRA allows teams to track any kind of unit of work (be it an issue, bug, story,

project task, etc.) through a predefined workflow. With this system of ticket

tracking, teams can gather tasks in backlogs and can give tasks value-driven

prioritization.

Zephyr for JIRA was another tool that Clearvision felt would be useful for

P&G. Zephyr for JIRA is an add-on application that augments JIRA, providing

cost-effective, highly sophisticated test management capabilities right inside

JIRA.

says a P&G Spokesperson, Commercial Services & Delivery. “Not to mention

the outstanding filter and dashboard functionality that enabled us to share

testing status with leadership.”

As the P&G team worked with these tools, Clearvision also introduced JIRA

Agile (now included in JIRA Software), an outstanding tool that development

teams use throughout website development stages, following an Agile

model, and to track releases/versions.

Thanks to Clearvision, the P&G team was able to get JIRA up and running

for issue tracking and test management in time for website testing.

As a P&G spokesperson mentioned, the smoothness of this implementation

was particularly important, because the team was under an ‘aggressive’

timeline as they worked to rollout innovative new websites and technology

to replace all existing sites.

Clearvision’s expertise in not only setting up JIRA, but in configuring JIRA’s

architecture and design in time for startup, helped the pre-launch testing

and subsequent quality of P&G’s websites greatly.

According to the P&G team, Clearvision went even further in helping P&G.

As well as doing an outstanding job of providing tools that meet the P&G

team’s current needs, Clearvision also worked proactively to anticipate

the enterprise’s future needs. For example, it was when the company was

switching to a more Agile Development model that Clearvision introduced

the P&G team to JIRA Agile, as well as Confluence.

P&G. Confluence is a communication and collaboration platform that

allows for transparency within various departments, vastly improving the

communication within teams. Confluence is a wiki used by more than half of

Fortune 100 companies to connect people with the content and co-workers

they need to get their jobs done, faster. Now that its teams are using this

tool, the P&G team can connect its entire business in one place online to

collaborate and capture knowledge, ideas, documents, minutes and projects.

Additionally, Clearvision provides the P&G team with its Enterprise support

package, which gives the P&G team 60 hours of support per year. This

package provides coverage for all the Atlassian tools, including JIRA,

Confluence, Stash and more. Open Source Support is available as an add-

on option. It’s also available 24/7 so no matter what the issue may be, or

when it happens, they can rest assured that they’re covered by Clearvision.

With the Enterprise contract, contacts are able to submit support tickets

whenever they need to, without limitation.

In working with the P&G team, Clearvision also helped ensure that the team

had the right tools in place to manage their entire application lifecycle (i.e.

defect mgmt-JIRA, Test mgmt-Zephyr for JIRA, Requirements mgmt/Release

mgmt-JIRA Agile, etc.)

The P&G team now has a suite of Atlassian tools (Confluence, JIRA, JIRA

Agile, Zephyr for JIRA, and other ‘add-ons’), that Clearvision has introduced

them to, all of which meet their varied needs from development through to

launch.

As usage grows, the P&G team is now looking into the possibility of scaling

with better performance across all of its tools. Clearvision will be on hand to

provide a proof of concept and evaluation of Atlassian Data Center licensing

as the P&G team continues on this journey.
